:comet: The Journal of Peer Production - http://peerproduction.net

"The Journal of Peer Production seeks high-quality contributions from researchers and practitioners of peer production. We understand peer production as a mode of commons-based and oriented production in which participation is voluntary and predicated on the self-selection of tasks."

Scanning through the issues so far there's a wide variety of topics!

The book I'm reading at the moment. It's about making a living while sharing your output with the world. It's packed with examples which is nice.

https://www.thenews.coop/128167/topic/economy/can-help-build-new-economy-new-crowdfunding-campaign/

Not-for-profit community organisation Stir To Action has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support a national programme of workshops to help communities build a “new economy that works for everyone”.
If it hits the target, its programme will train a 1,000 people in three cities — Bristol, Oxford, and London — and build a community of change-makers.

This is the kind of thing I'd like to see in Edinburgh (being selfish - otherwise, at least somewhere Scotland). There's a lot of activity like this in the South and Southwest, which I think would work here too.

Hi All, Apologies for the 'silence' from my side, but I've been in and out of the country most of the past 3 months. I am now back here in Edinburgh teaching. There is a series of events (hackathon, workshops and symposium) on "Do-It-Yourself Technologies for Action and Empowerment: Stories, practice and perspectives" organised by the MAZIzone Project in association with Napier University. I know quite well some of the partners and I may also run a workshop on 16 October (not confirmed yet). I think that the events would be of interest to some of you! https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/workshop-1-customising-the-mazi-toolkit-tickets-48239495630

That does sound interesting, although I myself might be unable to attend.

Seems worth cross-posting to the Edinburgh Hacklab's discussion list, which is open:

https://edinburghhacklab.com/contact/

I can also do that if you prefer.

...On the topic of wifi networks, when Simon Grant (@asimong) visited at the last meeting we discovered that William Waites, a member of the hacklab who has some involvement with community-mesh-wifi, such as HUBS (I don't have a link handy, but I think it's a buyers' cooperative), and knows Dmytri Kleiner personally.
