LWC Championships

OK folks, I know everyone has been busy and getting work done here is tough. I also know nationals is coming up so this probably makes having this discussion low priority right this second for many. But I will say that I think this should be priority number one for us as a board. If we get nothing else done for a while, this would likely please everyone in the LWC with our performance as board members.

Here are some things we can discuss and vote on in this regard:

  • Dates (we already have a good idea of when this will be)
  • Venue (maybe assign someone to do research here)
  • Prizes (i.e: best team wins a full set, which was an idea Sean gave me)
  • Will this be set up as a qualifier for something else?

And of course anything else you all bring up. But let's get the ball rolling because we need to get this on the calendar for the end of the third or beginning or middle of the fourth quarter of the year, and we need to block the date off so no one else in the LWC can set up a meet that day, and then we need to work out the details.

Hi all,

I’m not sure if you are aware but we have ended up not going with the venue that we originally discussed (Business Expo Center in Anaheim) at the last meeting we had. We were originally quoted a price around $4k but once we received the quote it had tripled in price.
Since then, we have found a new location in Irvine that will cost us $3961.82 for Saturday Nov 2 6am - 9pm including the night before set up, 250 chairs, banquet tables and a variety of other things that we won’t need to pay to rent. It is an outdoor set up that will allow for two platforms, ample warm-up platform area, tons of parking and a really great spectator/vendor area as well. There is an indoor weigh-in area in the building.
They are booked Sunday, Nov 3 so we will be hosting only the one day on November 2, but with at least 2 platforms going, we should be able to get at least 150 athletes registered. We will determine that once registration goes live and we see how many athletes will be competing.

I have written up a press release that we can push out to the LWC once we have set up registration, it is at the link below. I have also been working on updating more details on our website so the press release can also be a good excuse for everyone to go to our website and check out what is on there.

We're hoping to get back our finalized SPLWC logo from our designer to put on our site before releasing this, but we'll see how quickly we get that back and our timeline for announcing the meet publicly.

Ok. Are we sure that there won't be any issues with rain if it's an outdoor event? Is it covered in some way? or any other assurance that it will go off without a hitch? I'm just concerned because it is November that we're talking about here.
