One of the reasons this works for Trello is that they've got an interface that's modal-based when you're actually inputting text, so they can easily tell when is appropriate for keyword shortcuts, and when you're actually typing something.

Thought I'd put out a feeler as to whether we think it's better to

a) use a slightly more archaic keyboard shortcut (shift + ctrl + g)
b) implement some kind of logic to determine whether it's appropriate to be detecting keyboard shortcuts (the current focus is a text field, maybe?). People might be turned off by the fact that a shortcut works sometimes, but not others.

After all, last thing to want is to be typing 'The Guggenheim Goggles Egg On Engagement', and have the menu pop up every letter.

@jameskiesel that can be solved by disabling the shortcuts whenever a form element has the focus.

Yesterday in our scoping meeting with AccEase we talked about a whole group of people who can't drive a mouse and are dependent on keyboard navigation. As part of committment to accessibility this will be important so we need to be careful switching keyboard shortcuts off anytime doesn't exclude some people from using Loomio.

@jameskiesel thanks for this feature, love it - only feedback would be it would be great if hitting esc would close the group box so maybe letting that bubble when focused on the input field would make it a little bit smoother.

if you click on the Groups tab, under the search bar it says "No groups found by that name!". is that a bug related to this feature?

@joshuavial: Alanna actually made the exact same suggestion; I'm working on it now.

@ahdinosaur: I believe that is a bug (@robguthrie reported the same thing happening for him), although I haven't been able to reproduce it yet.

Hey @jameskiesel, what a great job! Just a note that I experience the "No groups found by that name!" error when I open the groups dropdown too, but it hasn't affected the usability at all

"No groups found by that name" bug seems to be fixed. :) however, maybe it's just me, but when i type something in the group search bar, no text shows up even though it filters the groups properly.
