HTTPS and Hosting

BW Bob W Public Seen by 309

To offer confidence in the safety of using our site is important that our site begin to support HTTPS, especially for logins, but potentially for all site access. This means getting an SSL/TLS certificate for the domain, and means incurring certain costs. The need to address this may also involve considering whether we want to continue with the current hosting provider or switch to a different host.

No sooner did I create this thread than did I learn it might be moot, at least for now. We should soon have an SSL/TLS certificate for our site on the current hosting provider, and so be able to support HTTPS...

Note: The preVH site may appear to be unavailable, or only available to some people, during the next day! This is because the site is being converted to have a private IP address, which the current host requires in order to install an SSL certificate (though I understand this is no longer required by other providers). As a result, the new IP information needs to be propagated through DNS, with the result that many computers will not be able to find the correct address for the preVH website until everything sorts itself out. According to some sources, this could take as long as 3 days! Though, for most people, the changes should happen much sooner, I hope...

For those for whom the DNS issue has resolved, the website is now using HTTPS, for improved security!

Thanks Bob and Julie for implementing and getting this done. : )
One subtlety that might be useful :
* when one calls this adresse for instance : http://nvc-global.net/privacy-policy/?utm_campaign=new_comment&utm_medium=email&utm_source=discussion_mailer
it remains http://
Could it be done in order for it to be redirected to the corresponding adress in https:// ?

Another question : is the host really located in Utah ? like said here :
* https://iplookup.flagfox.net/?ip=
