Setting page content language

D Dieudonné Public Seen by 309

I want to share with you a good news : I finally found how to enable nvc.miraheze.org to be used to translate a page from any language to any other one. Initially it was only possible to translate a page from the default website language (in this case, English). So to translate from French to English I had to use another wiki : cnv.miraheze.org.

The solution was explained here :
* https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:Translate/Page_translation_administration#Life_of_a_translatable_page

Changing the source language. The extension will normally assume that the translatable source page is in the wiki's default language. Administrators can change a specific page's language setting, using the Special:PageLanguage page, so that it can be used as a source page for translation. See Page content language for details.

And to have that on our wiki, I simply asked it here :
* https://phabricator.miraheze.org/T3234

Like explained here :
* https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Request_features

Note that to simply activate an extension, it can be done through a dedicated page, directly in the wiki :
* https://nvc.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:ManageWiki
and since you can't see it's content without proper rights, here is a copy/paste of it's content :
* https://nvc.miraheze.org/wiki/ManageWiki

Isn't it beautiful a community working together as volunteers to help MediaWiki being widely accessible ? :relieved:

By the way, as I know that Bob just sent a call about "Resource Flow and Financial Admin weaves - exploratory mtg", and I won't be able to attend, here is my modest contribution. Find inspiration in miraheze economic model :

Thanks to this request :

it is now possible to set a page's language to another one than default one (English). I tried it on my user page. To set a page's language, you have to be admin (part of the sysop group), and when going to the information link of a page :
* https://nvc.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=User:Dieudo&action=info

you have this :
* Page content language
with a link to change it.
