How much money to aim for

Smari mentioned $150,000 in his concept document but that is, as said, a figure plucked out of the air so to speak. I suggest Euro 50,000 as a figure we can use to start operations and put resources into getting our subscription model up an running.
We will have to pay costs to Indegogo,

the cost of rewards and payment to Jelena.
I think the flexible funding model would suit our needs best as we can under or overshoot the target without losing the funding.

Indiegogo allow us to continue fundraising past our goal so we can also think about what would happen if we reach over our goal by substantial amounts - 25,000 and 100,000 for example.

What about a tiered funding model?
step 1: 50.000 (Bootstrapping cost)
step 2: 150.000 (Smari's lowest estimate for a full time manager + some small grant money )
step 3: 600.000 (Full time manager + 1 resident researcher + 300.000 in funds for large contract projects)
I think open goals like that would make it easier to reach step 1 since it communicates a higher ambition to supporters from the start. After the initial funding effort subscriptions could be converted to yearly funding equivalents as goals and for communication purposes.
