Our bid simply said up to that amount. I do understand that more spots would help us, and believe me I'm trying to get the most.

A meeting of AHBPA, NAH and EU in montpellier had a conclusion that 48 or less is preferred for a number of reasons such as cost, scheduling, game time and waiting time, resources, refs and umpires and simply being realistic of a teams chances.

The wildcard can take up to that many teams if it's practice people want.

Being so isolated means that there is a good chance we wouldnt even fill 64. Montpellier even had trouble filling their allocations and that's the middle of Europe.

Hbt would be lucky to scrape one team, at most 4 players.

I didn't see the post go on the FB group last week, have people discussed this amongst their clubs?

PCP discussed it and there was as many as 10 hands up for wanting to go to a qualifier, after explaining the full situation a few hands came down, say (3-4) but some players are looking at just doing a nats/qualifier because worlds/wildcard is out stretching some peoples budgets.
So id say as much as 3 teams from Perth will go to the qualifier

That makes no sense to me. Its nearly a year away and people can't save $800...

I spent that to get to Perth in 2012, as a student, on maybe two months notice.

Punk maybe people in Perth need a bit of a hype injection. This is the first time worlds has been held in our region and my be the last for another six years. The priority for all players in our region should be playing at ether the main tourney or the wild card.

Hey i'm just relaying what i'm hearing... Don't shoot the messenger.

For some people the ultra competitive side of polo isn't why they play. A world championship isn't what they are looking for. Most of these people enjoy the national level and that's enough for them. Also there are some newer players who want to come to a nationals just for the experience and will judge their world participation from there.

The flight cost isn't everything but its also the leave from work for some people which i agree most people should be able to sort it, or uni standing in other peoples way. But i cant only relay what i'm hearing. Personally if you have to pick one its gotta be Timaru but im their rep not their manager.

I agree with what Punk said, it does reflect the nature of where Perth is at and the discussions we had last week. We've lost a couple of our more 'competitive' players and whilst we do have some more experienced players who are willing to travel I think there might a feeling of being thrown in the deep end for some of the newer players looking at worlds/wildcard. Going to worlds would be cool and all, but it could also be a bit daunting.

I suspect Newcastle might get one team together for the AUS qualifier, and there might be 2 or 3 people looking to head to Timaru for the wildcard. Doesn't sound like much, but some (OK, most) weeks we are struggling to get 6 players on a regular basis.

Bump.

We need to lock this in,

Sydney would most likely want to send 4 teams.

If MLB and BNE are also no more than 4, Perth are 2-3, HOB is a likely 1 and Newcastle is a maybe 1, we could have it at 16-17 teams which I think is most people expectations. More than 16 on a single court starts to get hard. and not in a good way. .
