Public Transport & Lifts (not AP)

A Allan Public Seen by 20

So it's looking like vehicle space on site & nearby will be very limited, with a parking charge for off-site FC carpark (& possible need to feed the meter). To reduce the number of vehicles & associated hassle it'd be good for any who can to use public transport. Here's some options to consider when planning your journey.

TRAINS

The nearest train station is Dumfries (Dumfries station, Lovers Walk, Dumfries,Dumfries & Galloway, DG1 1NF)

It has trains coming from the south via Carlisle and from the north via Glasgow. Here is the timetable as at Dec 21. See Below

[EDIT] Very roughly it looks like from Glasgow trains are every 1.5 hours, with a few extras at peak times. From Carlisle it looks more varied, maybe every 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

BUS

From Dumfries the bus which goes nearest the site is the 372. Timetable as at Nov 21 attached below. The nearest stop from the train station is 'DG One Stance A' outside a leisure centre on Hoods Loaning. A few minutes walk

The nearest stop to the site is Mabie Farm Park bus stop on the A70. From there it's several miles to site. Not sure how walkable it is.

TAXI

Will be available from Dumfries. If a number get in at the same time then maybe you can get a minibus taxi.

LIFTS

From Dumfries train station it's about 20 miles to the site. I've already committed to doing a few runs to pick folk up from the train station, though my car is limited in capacity and I'm not planning on making a job of it. If others are able to commit to doing a few runs (& if folk arrive by train/bus) it should be fairly easy and we can limit the parking nightmares.

Much easier would be picking up folk from Mabie farm park (a few minutes walk from the A70 bus stop) It's a few miles drive to the site from there.

A lot depends on when folk plan on arriving. If a lot get in on train around the same time maybe some kind soul can take a van & pick up bags from the station so everyone can get the bus more easily & get shuttled from there.

Check the timetables, key to any lifts is going to be knowing when folk get in. Post things below if you're keen on the idea - or have a better one. I'll maybe do a spreadsheet later.

Obviously getting back to Dumfries at the end is another issue, best to leave that till later I'd say.

Thanks for this!

I will be travelling from Manchester. It looks like I'll need to change in Carlisle. If anyone can indicate how walkable those few miles from the bus stop are, or offer a lift from where it drops off, I would really appreciate it!

Hello:)) If anyone has two spare seats in their car and are driving from Glasgow on Thursday, me and my friend would be very verry grateful for a lift! Or if not, we can get the train and arrive in Dumfries at 12pm/mabie forest at 1 and would appreciate a lift to the site. Message me on WhatsApp if you're willing :) we can also phone or meet to get a sense of each other before! 07826208778 Ria.

Ps. The reason I'm asking for a lift from Glasgow is also because I'd like to bring a good few salt lamps, and they're verry heavy! X

I was bored enough to sit staring at Google Maps satellite view for a while, and from the information given, I think I've worked out the address of the site. If I'm correct, it's a 1.7 mile walk from the "Mabie Forest" bus stop on the A77, which I estimate will take around 45-50 mins (at my usual pace, with luggage).

I can see via StreetView that the first half mile from the bus stop is on a surfaced road, no pavement, but just about wide enough for 2 cars, so it should be safe to walk along during daylight hours, especially if in a group (single file obviously, but more people = more visibility) — unfortunately, after that first half mile, there is no more StreetView, but from satellite imagery, it does appear to continue in much the same way. Google Maps reckons it is walkable up to the main site entrance.

Alternatively, taxiautofare.com reckons it will cost about £14 in a standard car, so less than a tenner for 2 people sharing; if a few of us can co-ordinate arriving at the same sort of time, then we could use a minibus-taxi which mytaxe.uk is quoting between £32-41 for . Either way, it's gonna be a bit less £10 per head if you can find someone to share with.

@Radiant would you be up for sharing a cab from Dumfries?

@Katie Certainly, that's a good idea.

Hey all,

I've created a spreadsheet on the master sheet for rideshares/taxishares. Hope its helpful in helping people co-ordinate & connect.
