Licensing of media
When attaching media to a post would it be possible to have a pull down menu to specify license type of media.
so if I want to post as cc-by-sa I can, but others then know how they can use it, without asking, rather than simply assuming anything posted to diaspora is free to use.
We are in "control" after all. ;)
thanks
Paul

I agree here, but I was just asking this because there are posts with info graphics, such as the water desalination post which had a really nice picture, similar to this was a picture of solar panels and jimmy carter quote saying how they are a good source of clean, renewable energy,
It would be nice to know if we can share things like this, it gets the word out, but also means peace of mind for those who share them that it is OK to do so. In general if I share this sort of thing, on my site, I will say i found it on diaspora. It would just be good to have clarity.

Just include the license-information in the text of your post. The posts are not designed for datamining, so an annotation in the form of metadata is not necessary in the diaspora-software itself.

Ok I can do that, how do I know if I can use what other people have posted for example. or if I use it should i just credit them as you would with creative commons.

You never know unless people write license information inside the post. If no information is available, just assume you are not allowed to use the media. You can ask them via comment or message and establish some "social" connection, hence this is a social network not a stock-photo-pool.

Absolutely, this.

I think that:
It is a very interesting but incomplete proposal.
Why only half? And the texts?
No, you should never assume anything in the absence of information. Yes, you can start a social social relationship and ask about that, but not all people are connected all the time and occasionally rapid response is not obtained.
Yes, the license may be included in the posts, as a text even add images, but diaspora* users need to understand the importance of licenses.
I am a reporter outside the mercantile system, much diaspora * use and this proposal seems very interesting.

It should not be free to use by default in a social media , especially when posting personal photos
