Use of PiratePad to Supplement Loomio

DS Danyl Strype Public Seen by 166

The subject of whether it is good to use PiratePad to supplement Loomio is creating meta-discussion on a couple of threads. This discussion can focus on the specific issue of PiratePad use, to allow these thread to focus on their own important topics.

A bit of context. The "context box" is the box of text under the discussion title which can be edited and updated by any group member. The intended purpose of this box was to allow a group member to catch up with the key points of long discussion threads without having to read the whole thing. Like being able to read the minutes from a missed meeting.

Loomio crew themselves use GoogleDocs for collaborative editing of documents, and I agree that PiratePad is an improvement on this. I would just ask that it is used for drafting, and "stable" versions are copied to the context box periodically, so members can read a current version, and make a comment about it, without having to leave Loomio. This also protects against random vandalism, which although reversible, could become a time-wasting nuisance in long-running PiratePads.

In the medium term, I am hoping the GIT-based policy editing tool we discussed informally in Welly would provide a better alternative to both GoogleDocs and PiratePad.

Small digression

Check out this repo I set up for the constitution: https://github.com/ppnz/constitution. Unfortunately I became busy with work things before I could do anything more with it.
