Conducting Nowhere in the midst of CoVid

BW Bill Ward Public Seen by 48

The CoVid working group held a meeting on 27th January 2022 to discuss how we could conduct Nowhere during this Pandemic / Epidemic.

The Notes of this meeting can be found here: Meeting Notes

The Meeting lead several questions that the Working Group wanted to hear from the Leads to get more viewpoints in the polls.

It is obvious to say, Nowhere will always follow the laws by our rules, policies and procedures.  This set of polls are an attempt to give the Directors and MetaLeads information to publish as part of the information that will be included in the Ticket sales.  By the time of the event, we will use the information here and current laws to construct the relevant rules for the event.

No one can predict what will happen in the few months between now and July.

Currently track to Spain has a good deal of requirements (https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/spain-introduces-covid-20220127091710-nt.html), and the rules will change again on Feb 1st.

There are 4 polls with which we seek your feedback. 1) Vaccination Requirements 2) Testing Requirements 3) Funding of Tests and 4) Frequency of On-Demand tests

When thinking about these questions please think about:

  • Your rights, and the rights of your friends.

  • The right to expect a safe venue and what does it take to make it safe.

  • Think about the radical self reliance principle and how it affects your answers.

  • Think about the safety of our volunteers, and what is it fair to ask of them.

PCR PreArrival to Nowhere (No Cost to NW)
Antigen (LFT) at Entry
Antigen (LFT) at Re-entry

I would like to see a PCR at the Gate where people who do not have cheap access to a PCR test at home could make one prior to being allowed on-site - and pay for that PCR themselves - with only marginal additional cost for NW.

Antigen tests are often unreliable, especially with variants of the virus - in my cirlce of friends, some people tested negative using lateral flow tests even when they already had symptoms.

PCR at Entry to Nowhere
Antigen (LFT) at Re-entry
PCR PreArrival to Nowhere (No Cost to NW)

I would be keen to see 4 things:

1) PCR or Antigen before leaving our home (why travelling if your sick?

2) PCR at First entry (PCR for a wristband)

3) Antigen at re-entry (for a cost reason) - possibility to bring your own if you are rich and want to contribute.

4) Antigen test on demand and each week for setup crew (even if you don't go off site)

PCR at entry seem too clostly and too complicated to implement, and little bit overkill in my opinion. Antigen at Entry seems a minimum to limit contaminations, and test at re-entry will minimize people going in and out of town, hence limit contaminations between the event and Sarinena, which is definitely something that I value.

We need to be careful requiring PCR without caveats - it is not useful if you've had a recent infection as it will pick up the residual virus for potentially months after infection has ended.

The cost to Nowhere of PCR is huge! so I think people should test negative with that before they come. Of course, if they then test +ve with an Antigen while at Nowhere, then I think they need a PCR to confirm.

Antigen (LFT) at Entry

I think either test would be fine, but LFTs just win out as they are quicker and cheaper.

Antigen (LFT) at Entry
Antigen (LFT) at Re-entry

This is a relatively cost effective way to pick up people who are infectious at the time of entry, seems sensible to ask for the same upon re-entry as we don't know where people go when off site.

No Test Required

Given what I've seen of the current variant's behavior wrt to testing, I'm not convinced that the marginal safety supposedly added by additional testing, beyond what is already legally mandated, serves a serious purpose beyond the emotional comfort of those who believe in the efficacy of further additional testing. While on the other hand, over-testing has real world costs, both material and emotional.
