How will we make decisions about our community?
How will we answer questions like:
- "What is the process for new people joining?"
- "Where shall we host the next hui?"
From my thoughts and some ideas from initial conversations with folks, things that seem important in decision making are:
- Accessible for everyone to participate
- That we don't get blocked by "bureaucracy"
I have a two great friends who are interested in joining who I want to invite - I think they would be a joy to have around and could help create wonderful things with us. It's been 3 weeks, and I have no idea how to start that conversation. Perhaps this would be a good place.
Would be great for you to have a play around on this platform. If you have time, try making threads and commenting/voting/making proposals in others threads.

I really support trialling Loomio as a decision making tool for us - I've found it very easy and effective in another setting.

I agree with Nick, I've only just figured out Loomio and think it could be a great tool but we'd need the majority of the group to commit to figuring it out and using it too for it to be effective. Maybe we can do a short training on it at the next Hui so everyone can see how it works and commit to joining as agree we need a way of communicating and making decisions outside of formal meetings so we can still progress and get stuff happening.

+1 to the idea of a short session on Loomio at the next hui - maybe we can even get someone from Loomio to come along for that. In the meantime, my opinion's evolved a little, in that I think it'd be good to use it leading up to the hui, and give people a chance to learn by doing before learning more at the hui itself. Loomio should never replace face-to-face, only fill the gaps where face-to-face isn't possible...

Using loomio seems quite easy but I can tell I have stuff to learn and I was slow to come to it post the August Hui wheras I picked up Slack. And I am one of the oldies so not familiar with this software. A session would be good and Nick's suggestion of getting people using it beforehand also useful because using locks in the learning so much better. My only concern w Loomio as a vehicle currently is that it seems few of the MFC group are on it..... it would need I think to have everyone on except those who do not want to be and for them to understand that they would potentially miss out? My thoughts anyway

Have never used Loomio before and just came on it today, but loving it so far. Seems like a great platform!

@katemacintyre Definitely agree with you there, there are about 20 of us on this Loomio channel, so only about half of who were at the hui. It's a question we're asking at the moment, around how to engage more people with Loomio - everyone has been invited via Sarrah's email, but maybe there's more we can do to make it even more accessible? Open to suggestions for how to do that? :smiley:

I see a real need for Loomio with the kind of questions we have coming up in the network at the moment, support trialling this! Just want to make sure we make it as easy as possible for people to engage :)
