What are the 3 most essential features you really miss on Loomio?
Loomio is definitely a great platform for collaborative decision making. Even though almost every user may have this feeling that "it'd have been better if Loomio had the feature to......". Let's share that here.
I asked you to share only 3 features because I hope that it'll help us to share only the important features which we really miss, those killer features without which we feel Loomio as incomplete/not-good-enough. I hope this thread will also help developers to see all the important feature-requests in one place.
+1 for analytics and I'd caution trying to cram too many new features in. I love Loomio because it's simple to pick up and use, and doesn't try to be everything. Keeping the tool focused on what it does best and refining this will be the killer app 👍
I would love one level of discussion threading, and collapsible comments with a "read more" link. (This is me speaking as a user, instead of thinking "what is most important for Loomio dev as a whole).
This is more of a question than a proposal, but I have seen Loomio proposal discussions want to have amendments. The proposal is ok, but, this would make it better. Have Loomio devs considered amendments? Have they been rejected? Too complicated? (I understand @camfindlay1 's point upthread.)
Here's roberts rules of order for dummies on amendments.
+1 to one level of discussion threading
+1 to MVAnalytics especially in regards to User Statistics (enable profiles to build continuity, credibility, & context)
I like the investigations into anonymous participation & post initiation; maybe this exists, but can one initiate encrypted instances of Loomio? could enable organizing that requires safe, secure spaces.
Sry about double-post, but thought I'd cross-ref. @strypey's Loomio for Spokescouncils; this might trump my third point, though it likely constitutes the most work :P especially looking down the chain towards things that would be useful for such a model like quorum (if that's not already here) and a sidebar-sticky for agreed upon norms.
FYI, a rough consensus on the Loomio team for this question at the moment might look something like (in no particular order):
- Being able to receive notifications on your phone / device about stuff that happens in Loomio
- Being able to make a decision without creating a group (or even necessarily making an account)
- Having a dock of information which will allow users to more easily navigate around the app and get an overview of what the most important thing to look at next is.
This is actually my most important missing feature, which has been discussed a lot, and may already partially exist in those Slack integrations: embeddable Loomio discussions, proposals and voting, so they can be included in other sites that I use (e.g. http://nrp.sensorica.co/ ) to discuss projects and processes and vote on proposals like engineering design alternatives.
- ^ embeddable Loomio
- being able to make a decision without creating a group (or even necessarily making an account)
- tag-based organization of topics
Love this thread @ambadyanands 😄
Wonder if we could achieve your first suggestion 'mark a proposal as done' just by adding tags to proposals.
My main thing at the moment is really wanting to be able to mark loads of threads as read in one go. I've got 78 unread threads, most of which I have no intention of ever reading so I want to mark them all as unread, but don't because at present I can only do it one at a time which is really laborious.
IMHO, having at least one complete plugin would be a critical milestone for Loomio.
To involve others in the development, a good example is essential - regardless whether these plugins will be merged later to upstream or not - it would help adaptations and therefore Loomio becoming known for a lot more people.
For features: tags, define owner, define thread deadline.
My wish list:
* LDAP integration: when a user log into Loomio with an unknown account, Loomio connects to a configured LDAP server to retrieve account information and perform authentication.
* Cascade group member deletion: when a member is removed from a group, Loomio should automatically (or with a checkbox option) remove that member from all sub-groups.
* Invite a user to join multiple groups at once: it is currently possible to invite a user to join a single group. It would be helpful to be able to send an invitation targeting several groups and/or sub-groups.
I'll start with what I think.
1) Most proposals are actionable and hence once they're implemented there should be an option to mark those as done along with a short-note/description/comment. This will help users to identify which all proposals were followed up properly and put into action.
2) Show user-activity in profile - i.e if I view a user's profile it should also show me that person's (public) threads, comments, decisions/votes, etc. (User profile could also have additional details like a short-bio, links to social-media profiles and websites/blogs, etc.)
3) Show public stats on threads such as number of views, number of users engaged/commented, etc. and an option to sort threads based on it.
[EDIT: 2 other features I had in my mind are already existing in Loomio which I didn't check carefully - 1) option to see all threads from all subgroups in one place and 2) separate list for previous proposals.]
