Putting a focus on Democracy and Transparency

dear wessels,

while i think it is important that diem itself looks after its internal

structure, its processes and its way of organizing we should not get stuck

there.

as a new organization diems structures are still to a large degree ad'hoc

and what gets done is a result of the hard work of volunteers like judith.

so for diem i think it is currently much more important to focus on the

outside: on the political situation and how to deal with it, how to

influence the public discourse etc. this is not a time for petty discussions

about our own internal structures.

we can assume that everyone who is active in diem stands on the ground of

the manifesto, and thus we can and should trust each other. this is a

completly different situation in the e.g. the EU institutions where there

are widely different opinions and interests at play.

so while for an organisation that has at its main goal to write a

consitution for the EU, our own internal principles are to some degree

imporant, given the above reasoning one should not fall into the trap to

assume the organization of diem itself would be a "small modell of the EU".

i also think that the DSCs should not fokus to much on organizational

detail but on political relevant discussion and action. but then this

is a matter of the tastes of the members of each DSC...

Meeting with Srećko in Frankfurt 11.02.

Dear coordinators,

on 11th February the theatre in Frankfurt hosts a big event on the

future of Europe, where amongst others Srećko will speak.

https://www.schauspielfrankfurt.de/erfindung-europa

Some members of the DSC Heidelberg1 and DSC Nordbaden1 have decided to

go there together. And we got in contact with Srećko who will join with

us for a drink after his appearance on stage (discussion with Fabio De

Masi, Chantal Mouffe and Adrian Zandberg at 5 p.m. on Saturday).

It would be great to meet some other DiEMers there and to have the

conversation with Srećko together. Therefore, please spread the news in

your DSCs and join yourself if you like and have the chance to come to

Frankfurt.

We will meet inside the hall next to Srećko after the discussion and go

to a bar close by.

Also, do feel free to get in contact with Elisa (elisa_stowe@posteo.net)

who organises the meeting with Srećko or with me.

Best wishes and carpe diem

DSC Starter Kit

Good morning everybody,

my name is Hannes and I'm coordinator of DSC Berlin 1 and since a short

time member of this googlegroup.

In Berlin active people are growing and we are thinking of founding new

DSCs in different quarters to get smaller more active and dynamic

groups.

For that reason we need something like a starter kit to make founding

new DSCs more easy.

Does somebody have something like that already?

Would be nice not to start at 0.

Hope to hear from you!

Regards,

Hannes

February update

Dear all,

Here's a broad update.

Policy Papers:

1) Transparency: you can keep submitting proposals based on the questions document ( https://diem25.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/DiEM25_Transparency_Questionnaire_English_final.pdf ) to transparency@diem25.org .

2) Refugees: the committee chair has repeatedly promised to have the first draft ready "next week", but it is not available yet. Keep discussing the topic but please wait until the draft before submitting more proposals.

3) European New Deal: Yanis released a summary of the first draft on occasion of DiEM25's anniversary. Find it here ( https://diem25.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/170212_DiEM25_END_Summary_EN.pdf ). You are cordially invited to submit comments and suggestions by writing to ulfclerwall@gmail.com . Depending on which section you comment on and at what time, it may be possible to include this feedback in the first full draft even, otherwise in the second draft.

Some already commented that the European New Deal whitepaper is not very readable for people without a university education. Let me clarify that: it is not intended to be. It will be a 100+ page economic whitepaper intended for those who want to sink their teeth into DiEM25's proposals. I don't think that any laypeople will want to read such a long paper, not if they don't understand economics. So in addition to the whitepaper, there will be many articles, interviews, videos etc. explaining our proposals in simpler language. Yanis has already started to produce some, for example the recent 2-minute video for BBC ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O0OJ_VZJok ). DSCs are also invited to start thinking of ways to explain/promote the European New Deal ideas (though they're very raw still). But there will be people who see the articles/interviews/videos and doubt that DiEM25's proposals are well-thought-out and realistic, and these people will be able to refer to the whitepaper for details.

Funding & Transparency:

Finally, on a completely different matter: please go to https://internal.diem25.org/membership ( https://internal.diem25.org/membership ) and fill out the form regarding the voluntary membership fee and ask all members you know to do so too. Even if you cannot contribute anything at this time, it is important to indicate that there, so that the CC can make plans. Until December, DiEM25 could not receive or spend any funds because it lacked legal status (that's why it was urgent to have Organising Principles and elected legal representatives of DiEM25). It is only the coming month or two that will show what kind of budget DiEM25 will have and hence what kind of organisational backbone there will be, what kind of campaigns DiEM25 can do, how much DiEM25-Central can support the DSCs / local activists in their activities and so on. That is why it is crucial to know how many members are willing to support DiEM25 with a membership fee AND to know how many are unable/unwilling to do so. Rest assured that there will be full transparency. As a registered international non-profit, DiEM25 is required to regularly release financial reports indicating how much money has been raised from which sources and what it has been spent on.

Help for DSCs:

I recently integrated the WeMove.eu petition subscribers and Change.org petition subscribers into the DiEM25 newsletter database. This means that DiEM25 is now able to reach over 55,000 people, even if they aren't 'members' yet. Anyway, it's a great opportunity to attract more members to your groups. If you want to invite every registered DiEMer in your hometown to a meeting, just send me an invitation letter and I will forward it to all our members there. This also works if you're traveling to another city and want to help kickstart a DSC there by facilitating their first meeting.

Thank you all and carpe DiEM!

CETA-sopimus hyväksyttiin Euroopan parlamentissa – kansalaisyhteiskunta vetoaa nyt kansallisiin päättäjiin

Tiedote 15.2.2017

[Vapaa julkaistavaksi heti]

CETA-sopimus hyväksyttiin Euroopan parlamentissa – kansalaisyhteiskunta vetoaa nyt kansallisiin päättäjiin

EU:n ja Kanadan välinen laaja-alainen talous- ja kauppasopimus CETA
hyväksyttiin Euroopan parlamentin täysistunnossa Strasbourgissa tänään
15. helmikuuta 2017.

takapakkia suurten globaalien kysymysten ratkaisulle. Sen sijaan, että
sopimus puuttuisi kasvavaan taloudelliseen epätasa-arvoon,
ilmastonmuutokseen ja luonnonvarojen kestämättömään käyttöön, se
olennaisesti vaikeuttaa noihin ongelmiin puuttumista.

”Vaikka asiakirjaan on sisällytetty kestävän kehityksen lausekkeita,

CETA sallii ulkomaisille sijoittajille kauaskantoisia oikeuksia
investointisuojan avulla ja aiheuttaa vakavan uhkan demokratialle ja

yleiselle edulle. [3]

”On täysin tarpeetonta perustaa kansainvälinen tuomioistuin, johon
takaavat oikeudenmukaisen suojan ulkomaisille sijoittajille”,
TTIP-verkoston Johanna Kähäri huomauttaa.

”CETA-sopimuksella on yhteys myös Suomen SOTE-uudistukseen”, toteaa
Corporate Europe Observatoryn hallituksen jäsen, dosentti Thomas
Wallgren.

”SOTE-uudistukseen liittyy palvelujen yhtiöittämispakko. Jos CETA
astuu voimaan, SOTE-tuotannon palauttaminen veroparatiiseihin
rekisteröidyiltä konserneilta julkisen sektorin vastuulle muuttuisi
käytännössä mahdottomaksi korvausvaatimusten pelossa. Tästä syystä
Suomella on erityisen painava syy kieltäytyä CETA:n kansallisesta
ratifioinnista”, Wallgren sanoo.

Nationalististen, eristäytymään pyrkivien poliittisten liikkeiden
vahvistuminen ympäri maailmaa ilmentää tyytymättömyyttä nykyisestä
globaalisaation mallista. Euroopan unionin tulisi puolustaa avoimuutta,
kansainvälistä yhteistyötä ja pyrkimystä globalisaation ongelmakohtien
korjaamiseen. CETA:n kaltainen kauppasopimus ei palvele tätä
tarkoitusta.

Hei aktiivit!

Kuten olimme uumoilleet, Ceta-vastainen työ siirtyy nyt kansalliselle tasolle. Viime kokouksessa sovimme, että pidämme ensimmäisen kirjoituspajan aiheesta ke 1. maaliskuuta klo 17-19. Paikaksi on valikoitunut Ravintola Rytmi Kallion 2.Linjalla. Nähdään siellä!

As we had, unfortunately, anticipated the work against Ceta is moving now to the national level since the European Parliament voted a yes for it. Wed 1st March 5-7 pm we are gathering to have a writing session about Ceta. Place is Ravintola Rytmi 2. Linja at Kallio.

Tervetuloa rohkeasti uudetkin, all welcome!

Presenting our new campaign: #TheGreekFiles

Hi all –

As you may have seen, #TheGreekFiles campaign is now out!

What is this campaign? A targeted campaign on EU transparency, where we're trying to get the ECB to release a legal opinion it commissioned about its own role in killing the Athens Spring in 2015. It's basically us (with a broad political alliance) on one side, and Mario Draghi and his minions on the other. It's the first step of what will likely be a long campaign.

Here's Yanis explaining the campaign in three minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qttt9OHiGG8

And the other relevant links (Eng versions) with graphics and copy you can use: campaign page ( http://diem25.org/thegreekfiles ) | petition ( http://change.org/thegreekfiles ) | article ( https://diem25.org/mr-draghi-what-are-you-afraid-of-release-thegreekfiles/ ) | FB post ( https://www.facebook.com/diem25.official.page/videos/1787219928266318/ ) (with video) | tweet ( https://twitter.com/DiEM_25/status/833617385412247553 ).

This is our movement's first real confrontation with the Establishment since our #StopTheDeal campaign last December. So please share it with your DSCs, push it on social media and with any of your local media contacts.

And if you have ideas on how to push and adapt the campaign to your specific countries, please share!

cheers

Mehran

PS As ever, the 'war rooms' for this campaign are on our DiEM25 Slack at d25.slack.com ( http://d25.slack.com ): #comms-dscs for discussion between comms people from the DSCs, and #social-media-actions for the social media coordination. Starter Kit: information sheet for new DSCs

Dear all,

we -Dominik, Elisa, Jakob and Hannes from Germany wrote an information sheet for people who want to create a new DSC that we would like to share with you.

It is available in Englisch, German and Spanish. Please feel free to distribute it to people you know who want to create a DSC. Of course it would be great if anyone would like to translate it into more languages. This is only one version with some ideas how to "do it" and our ideas are naturally based on personal experiences in our DSCs.

We would be glad to hear your feedback.

Your opinion? " March agains Monsanto"

Hi All!

Zagreb1 DSC / Croatia has the opportunity to participate in the organization of the local "March Against Monsanto", which is international event and is held every year on May 20th.

We (croatian members) need to know what is the relationship of the DiEM25 movement towards this ecological and corporative problem. Is it good for DiEM25 to be publicly presented as supporter or organisator of this event?

Starter Kit: information sheet for new DSCs

Hello Dominik, Elisa, Jakob and Hannes,

Thanks a lot for the fine work you have made. I found the starterkit very efficient. It will be translated and distributed to all members in Athens1DSC.

I would like your opinion, as well as the opinion of others coordinators on two things.

1) You state that

You can also collect contributions for your group, or ask universities, or foundations for financial support which can be used to buy materials.

In the organising principles state that

What can a DSC not do?

  • Collect or spend money outside of DiEM25’s established system of collecting and spending donations

*

So, how is what you write possible?

2) You state that

  • Cooperation: find out which initiatives exist in your area, and with whom you want to cooperate. Some initiatives may have an even broader network which you should join.

In the organising principles states that

What can a DSC not do?

Promise or show support to other political organisations and political candidates, except if the alliance has been approved by the CC.

So in your opinion if you received an invitation from another initiative, that exists in your area, to speak
about Diem25 in their meeting, should you vote on their invitation and just go and speak or should you ask first for approval by the CC because "show support" includes implied support by co-organising events with outside associations.

I am looking forward to your answers.

Starter Kit: information sheet for new DSCs

Hey,

I just came back from an extended weekend in the Netherlands, where the local groups did a FANTASTIC job organising an event around the Dutch elections. You can re-watch it online soon if you didn't catch the livestream.

And what a pleasant surprise to find this DSC guide on my return. In my opinion, just one thing is missing: the chief place to find out about potential DSCs is www.diem25.org/local-groups-dscs/ ( http://www.diem25.org/local-groups-dscs/ ) - people should check this list before they check the forums. And mention that if they have trouble finding local members, for example if the local forum thread has gone inactive, then they can write to volunteer@diem25.org and I'll be glad to send out a meeting invitation to ALL our registered members in their city. Unfortunately the majority of members don't use the DiEM25 forum but communicate only on closed systems like Facebook, Slack or Telegram, so it looks like a lot of cities are inactive when they have simply moved to a different means of communication.

Regarding the particular questions that were raised:

1) Funding

Yes, the OpenCollective will be ready in a matter of days. Through OpenCollective, DSCs will be able to ask for financial contributions and also transparently use the raised money, all without needing to have a tax entity or an accountant. Asking for money from outsiders in other ways is not permitted, for two reasons. One is that it is likely to be illegal (you'd need to be registered with the tax office, file regular tax reports etc.). The other reason is that DiEM25 needs to communicate very clearly what the appropriate channels are for donating, otherwise there is the danger, as already happened, that someone will make a donation "to DiEM25" and DiEM25 will have no idea where that money went, because the person collecting the money was not affiliated with DiEM25. So outside of OpenCollective and any potential fundraising agreement with the CC, DSCs should not approach donors. I mean donors in the strict sense here - obviously it's okay to sell tickets to an event you're organising in order to cover the cost, or to receive a 'donation' of a venue, a buffet, whatever material people want to make available which will not need to appear as income on a tax statement.

Which DSCs want to be the first to test the OpenCollective system? They should have several planned expenses in March...

2) Co-organising with a single other organisation

The reason for this rule is public perception, so public perception is also the lens through which it needs to be evaluated. I mean: DiEM25 does not want newspaper headlines like "DiEM25 and AfD invite you to discuss migration", because the readers will only remember "DiEM25 and AfD" linked in one sentence, they will not know that at this event DiEM25 will harshly attack the AfD position. Even when it comes to organisations that are politically similar, there may be reasons that DiEM25 does not want to be linked to them at this time, for example because it would allow them to look good without adopting any of DiEM25's positions (some organisations have tried to get DSCs to express their support while Yanis was still trying to negotiate). Journalists usually don't understand the difference between one DSC and the whole of DiEM25, or the difference between DiEM25 and Yanis, so a single DSC event with PASOK might yield a headline "Varoufakis' movement approaches PASOK" :(((

What's clearly okay:

  • Organising events with several partners representing a broad political spectrum (because it won't be interpreted as DiEM25 supporting party X), e.g. joining a broad pro-refugee demonstration or organising a panel discussion with politicians from several parties

  • Organising events with partners that do not have a collective political opinion, such as schools, universities, theaters, cinemas, pubs, even the local association of cat lovers ;-)

  • Informal exchanges with other political groups, as long as it's internal (= no chance of newspaper headlines) and you make it clear that you cannot openly express support of them until DiEM25 as a whole decides to express support.

Anything you want to organise that goes beyond the above is likely to be okay too, just please send me a quick email before you start, so that I can ask the rest of the CC if we have had bad experiences with a group, an ongoing standoff, or if there is any reason we don't currently want to be seen as linked to them.

Thank you!

Best wishes,

Judith

Gender Equality and new "New Deal workgroup"

Dear all,

March is the International Womens month with International Womens Day on the 8th.

Another historic event will of course also be when DiEM launches its white paper of the New Deal in Rome.

Here I would like to present an idea to you that some of us German members have been sharing for a while:

to build a pan-european workgroup on the issue of Gender.

We are currently working on an essay about Gender Equality and Gender Discoursivity in DiEM containing also some practical strategies. We will share with all of you as soon as it is finished.

Apart from that, the DSC in Berlin has formed a "Diversity group".

It would be great if we could bring the people in DiEM together, who are interested in Gender and Diversity issues, why not on a european level?

One point to start with could be to build a work group that takes a gender sensitive look at the New Deal.

I would be glad to hear from you.

Then we "only" need to find an effective way of communicating and jump right into it!

Best wishes

IMPORTANT: Communication

Dear all,

One of the biggest problems in DiEM25 right now is the lack of communication between the various parts. Please read the below plan, because YOU can make a huge difference:

DSC-to-DSC and CC-to-DSC communication: that's what this group is for. If you are getting this message, this means that YOU are in charge of transmitting messages from this group to your fellow DSC members and vice versa. Nobody else can do it; only one or two people from each DSC are in this group. Please be sure to forward all announcements (like the February Update message requesting comments on the European New Deal draft) as soon as you get them, and also keep your group informed about the other interesting discussions going on here. For example, even if you aren't personally interested in joining the Gender Equality workgroup, maybe somebody else in your DSC is. Similarly, please post here about the interesting campaigns, materials, events being prepared by your DSC, if other DSCs might help you or might learn from your experience.

DSC-to-CC communication: we would like to offer you the chance to reach all CC members directly, but unfortunately several of them already receive several thousand emails every day (not just DiEM25-related), so they do not usually read emails from people whose names they don't recognise. In order to ensure that your comments are actually read by all CC members and discussed, please send them to volunteer@diem25.org (me) and info@diem25.org (Fotini) - we'll forward all messages, remind certain people by instant message, and add the topic to the agenda of the next CC teleconference if need be. If you want to propose someone for the Advisory Panel (and you have a personal connection to that person or are quite certain that he/she would accept), please also write to these addresses - we will initiate a VC vote as soon as we've made sure that we're not creating PR problems for that person by doing so. If you would like DiEM25 to have an internal vote on a particular political position, post about it either in the DiEM25 forum or in this group in order to gather support. Once the CC sees that there is some initial support, we will ask more people to weigh in and arrange for a vote.

DSC-to-workgroup communication: if your group is making a contribution to the policy papers, please check the Progressive Agenda for Europe page (https://diem25.org/progressive-agenda-for-europe/) for up-to-date information on the status of each policy paper and the preferred way to submit proposals. Keep in mind that for pillars 4-6 we have not started work at DiEM25-Central yet, because we cannot channel the work of 40,000 members on more than 3 policy papers at the same time, but of course you can already work on them locally.

Member-to-member communication: our core tool for member-to-member communication is still the DiEM25 forum. Please ask DSC members to register there (it requires a separate registration and different password than the DiEM25 Member Area) and to contribute to the discussions. Also, be sure to go into the regional forums ("Meet Local Members" > your country > your region) and regularly post about your DSC activity, because a lot of first-time DiEMers go to the forum to find information about local events. You can also reach a lot of members through the inofficial DiEM25 Facebook groups.

Member-to-DSC communication: apart from the regional forums, new members chiefly go to https://diem25.org/local-groups-dscs/ to find information about nearby DSCs. Please double-check that your DSC's information there is correct and that you show up in the map. If the list does not yet include an email address for your DSC, please write me in order to add one ASAP - people who don't have Facebook accounts have written me to complain that a lot of DSCs can only be reached by Facebook message. You do not have to reveal your personal email address; I'm happy to create an official DSC email address ...@diem25.org for your group.

DSC-to-member communication: DiEM25-Central's newsletter system can reach every member in every city and of course we want to share this ability with all DSCs! If you have an event that would be interesting to newbies, or if you can make time at your next DSC meeting to answer newbie questions, or if you want to send a City Newsletter summarising everything you've worked on, we will gladly use the newsletter system to send this email to every member in your city. Just send the finished text to volunteer@diem25.org . In the text, be sure to tell people how they can get in direct contact with your DSC.

Thank you all for the work you're doing. DiEM25 is lucky to have you. Have a nice Sunday!

Roma

Dear all,

the forthcoming unveiling of our New Deal for Europe in Rome on March is a pivotal moment for DiEM and indeed for Europe; beyond that, it is great opportunity for members from across the continent to meet each other and to brush up on their contacts within DiEM. I for one am looking forward to finally meeting some of you in person.

For the non-Romans amongst us (presumably the majority) who would like to skimp on accommodation costs, does anybody want to share an Airbnb or something? Hotels are pricey, especially on weekends.

I'll ask this question in one of the public DiEM forums as well.

Best Wishes,

Dominik

Gender Equality and new "New Deal workgroup"

I know it's short notice, but does your group want to prepare an article that DiEM25 could publish on the occasion of Women's Day or the International Women's Strike on May 8?

A few days ago, a Polish member of the European Parliament said ( https://www.facebook.com/ajplusenglish/videos/912906582184183/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED ) "women are smaller, less intelligent, that's why they should earn less". Between people like him and Trump, I think we're really moving backwards...

That is a good idea! Cant promise we can build up broad Communication till then, but we will try to finish the DiEM Gender Paper till then, that could be a statement and a sign?

Thanks for the motivation of all of you who responded to this post.

One way we could start communication could be a european slack. I will soon make an email list of all of you who expressed their interest and then we could also have a first virtual conference and start by sharing ideas and then distribute tasks?

What do you think?

Roomassa 25.3. julkaistava European New Deal EI ole lopullinen versio

Dear all,

please forward the below letter from Yanis Varoufakis to all members of your DSCs, and everyone else who is working on the policy papers.

Best wishes,

Judith

LETTER TO DSCs ON THE PROCESS OF COMPILING DiEM25 POLICY PAPERS – Beginning with the European New Deal

It is now several months since DiEM25’s CC asked members and DSCs to ‘crowd-source’ ideas and proposals to be utilised in the process of compiling our first, and perhaps most important, Policy Paper – the European New Deal (END). As we had expected, we learned a great deal for this process, which is on going, and from which we are still learning. Today I am writing to you, on behalf of the CC, and in my capacity as END coordinator, to share some thoughts with you about this process.

Let me remind you that the END Committee has received a great deal of input from DSCs, from members and, indeed, from experts. Thousands of pages have been collected. Clearly, the END Committee could not incorporate all of it into a coherent END draft paper. Moreover, our job was not to summarise or collate but, instead, to come up with an overarching policy umbrella that identifies the key forces at work (which are disintegrating Europe and jeopardising Europeans) and targets specific policies against them. Additionally, it is important that the draft’s language and policy mix can appeal to progressives across Europe.

Our concern, as CC, is that, by its very nature, the writing of the first draft excludes many of the opinions and proposals that were submitted. The question is: How can we proceed after the first draft in a participatory manner? How can we manage well a process of amending the first draft consistent with the internal democracy that DiEM25 believes in and strives for?

We know that our existing Forum is a poor tool for this. There are, however, much better platforms, tools and apps to enable a properly democratic emendation process. We would be grateful to DSCs and members if they did some research to propose to the CC the best amongst these so that we can adopt it. Rest assured that the END draft policy paper that will be launched in Rome will not be the final, official DiEM25 END White Paper. Think of it as a Green (or discussion) Paper. Its transformation from Green to… White will require a full and proper process of emendation, to be facilitated by a new open democracy and dialogue platform that you will help us choose. Only after our DSCs and members get a chance to participate fully in the emendation process will the END paper be put to an internal vote. And only after it has been voted on will it become DiEM25’s END White Paper.

As I said, we are learning by doing. We are open to your suggestions. Gradually, as we complete the END White Paper, we will have established the procedure by which our next Policy Papers will be compiled, amended and endorsed.

Lastly, allow me to say that the Rome Event on March 25 ( https://diem25.org/event/the-time-of-courage/?instance_id=93 ), where the END paper will be launched (though not finalised), promises to be a historic moment in DiEM25’s short but promising history.

DSC collaborative Comms campaign for Julian Assange

Hello DSC folk!

Barcelona
1 calling. Our Transparency working group has teamed up with our
Comms group for a Twitter-based campaign around Julian Assange’s
situation & Wikileaks. At our meeting yesterday we thought it
would be a great idea to invite other DSCs to join in and be a part
of it!

On 2nd April, there will be a run-off vote in Ecuador to determine who will
become the country’s next President. If Guillermo Lasso wins he’s
said he’d evict Julian Assange from the embassy in London.

Wikileaks’ work
during their 10-year history, as well as Assange’s unwavering
commitment to transparency and to providing insight into the inner
workings of The Powers That Be, must needs our support and applause.

As you know of
course, Julian is one of us, and is part of our Advisory Panel. He
has been held without charge for almost 7 years; the United Nations
Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has found he is being
arbitrarily detained, and should be released immediately and
compensated. If he is extradited to USA he faces life in prison, or
even the death penalty. During all this time, he has not stopped
publishing invaluable documents: the Afghan and Iraq War Logs,
Guantanamo Files, TTiP and TiSA Chapters, Collateral Murder gunship
video, Podesta & DNC emails, Kissinger Cables… the list goes
on. Also, Wikileaks was instrumental in getting Edward Snowden to
safety.

So…

Our idea is to pool
our creativity together: A Europe-wide DS-Collective effort!

How? Well, our Comms
team uses an EtherPad. In this case we would be using a Pad on the
Riseup platform, open to anyone who wants to join in. Once there, all
of you will be free to contribute by writing copies, adding and
reusing artwork (our DSCers will contribute drawings, online
banners). After that your DSC can export any tweet /material to their
own workspace and tweak it, translate and spin it, swap out hashtags,
and finally tweet it from their local DSC accounts!

To
give you an idea of the shape of the campaign here at DSC Barcelona
1:

  • 1 Tweet/day from
    our account: @DiEM25_BCN

  • Tweeted same time
every day (19:06h, in reference to the day he entered the embassy -
    we use Tweetdeck)

  • Starting Monday
13th ‘til the week after the elections (2nd week of April / c. 25 Tweets)

  • Ideas for Tweets
    are based around:

  • Julian’s
    timeline since his detention, and myth-busting FACTS (see www.justice4assange.com ( http://www.justice4assange.com/ ); https://justice4assange.com/Assange-Case-Fact-Checker.html)

  • Acknowledging
the importance of Wikileaks revelations: by including links to their
    leak-campaigns (e.g. https://wikileaks.org/bnd-inquiry/)

  • Ecuador’s
elections: include articles and @ mentions to embassy/consulate-
accounts in your hometown (Be constructive!)

  • EU-related
leaks (search for leaks on https://wikileaks.org/ - just enter your search term and presto! Inlclude that link in your
    tweet)

Our Pad:

  • Important: do
not attempt to paste image / sound files directly onto the pad.
Upload images to our image repository on Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/request/mbDHu4yBUPOSUQk6i82L

  • We’re
pooling interesting hashtags and accounts. You can find these at the
    bottom of the pad.

I know we’re
already very busy with #StoptheDeal and #TheGreekFiles. But for those
of you who can, if you can find some time to write just one tweet, or
create one image for this DSC-networked drive, we’d have a kick-ass
campaign! We’re going ahead with it and it would love if you were
all a part of it.

Petition for transparent science - Please sign: Abolition of anonymity in peer review on Change.org

Dear All,

I have prepared a petition on Change.org aimed at the abolition of anonymous peer review in science. Signing this petition will help to get rid of the pressure on independent scientists who are willing to advance science honestly. Many free and honest papers are constantly rejected by anonymous peer reviewers who respond to or are even corrupted by the multinationals through funding of their compliant studies.

Many papers are blocked by anonymous peer reviewers because a scientific advancement may prove wrong many members of the establishment.

This dishonest practice cannot be tolerated anymore!

Please sign the petition.

You can find the link here:

https://www.change.org/p/abolition-of-anonymous-peer-review-in-science ( https://www.change.org/p/abolition-of-anonymous-peer-review-in-science )

Help free and honest science by signing this petition, honest authors can know in advance who are their peer reviewers and check whether they are hostile or not to their research. In this way, hostile reviewers can be recused by the authors.

Thanks for your support, Giovanni

Meet up in Rome the 25th of March

Good morning to all,

as many of you know on March 25th in Rome the EU leaders will meet in Rome
to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Treaties which initiated the process
of European integration. We will be in Rome too, to save Europe and its
common heritage from disintegration, authoritarian regression, walls and barbed
wire, reactionary nationalisms and racism, social and environmental disaster.

To save Europe we have
to change it, we need an innovative and courageous plan for European unity,
based on democracy and freedom, rights and equality, a willingness to embrace
gender issues, social and climate justice, dignity for people and the work they
do, solidarity and openness, peace and environmental sustainability.

With a coalition of many
associations, social movements, trade unions, social actors, DiEM25 is committed
to build together a large popular mobilization in Rome on March 25. The parade
will start at 11.00 from Piazza Vittorio Emanuele.

As a person entrusted by the Coordinating am working
to facilitate the meeting of all DiEM25 members. To this end I propose to meet
at 11.00 at Bar Kristal in Piazza Vittorio. Enclosed you will find an image of

A narrative of empowerment and participation!

Hi everyone,

After meeting with Yanis in Brussels, we had a discussion about the need to add our narrative of a new kind of participated democracy to the policy papers we present.

We have wrote a short text in this spirit, to add to the intro of the European New Deal document ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pNJ7855Kny-15ztWLWsjTBpVj1gOfRarRe6exgZtj2A/edit ), that can engage people not only through the content of the doc, but through the participatory and collective effort behind it.

It is meant to be short, empowering and an invitation to join us and build together, now and in the future.

Can you please review it, add some suggestions if you have any, by the end of the week, so we can suggest it to the CC and add it to the doc asap (maybe even before Rome?)

thanks a lot!

Moi,

TTIP-verkosto on juuri allekirjoittanut julkilausuman EU-Japani -kauppasopimuksen (Jefta) läpinäkyvyyden parantamiseksi. Jefta on yksi Ceta- ja TTIP -kaavaa noudatteleva vapaakauppasopimus, jonka neuvotteluja on käyty suljettujen ovien takana ja joka sisältäisi sijoitttajasuoja ISDS:n - joten se on yksi näistä erittäin problemaattisista sopimuksista. Recent VC Votes on Memberships and National Committees

Dear all,

Just a heads-up before the official announcements: the VC has recently approved two proposals, one regarding opt-out voluntary membership fees and one regarding national committees.

1) Opt-out voluntary membership fees

For a while now, DiEM25 has used the term "voluntary membership fee" instead of "donation" in order to communicate that we want to be member-funded, not accepting contributions from Big Business or shady figures like Soros. However, at this point less than 3% of members have made a contribution and DiEM25 needs a lot more in order to sustain our work. So the CC proposed to the VC that from now on, membership fees should be considered "opt-out". It's a psychological difference more than an actual one: instead of clicking a checkbox "yes I want to pay a membership fee" (opt-in), new members would now have to click a checkbox "no I can't or don't want to pay a membership fee" (opt-out). Membership fees remain voluntary, nobody is forced to pay if they can't afford it or don't want to, and non-paying members have the exact same rights as paying ones, including the right to contribute to DiEM25's policies, to vote, or to be elected to the VC and CC. However, if people want a non-paying membership, they have to indicate that now, rather than it being pre-selected for them. We hope that this way, people will make their choice more consciously, knowing that DiEM25 would cease to exist if everyone chose a non-paying membership.

The VC accepted this proposal with 39 Agree to 38 Disagree votes. Since the greatest concern among Disagree voters was budget transparency, DiEM25 is now preparing a preliminary budget page within the Members Area. The actual budget will of course depend on DiEM25's income, which is not at all predictable yet.

2) National Committees

DiEM25 is not about to lose its transnational nature, don't worry. All decisions of political direction will continue to be made by all members and not confined to the national level. However, as foreshadowed in the Organising Principles, we do want DSCs and unaffiliated members of a certain region or country to come together in order to work on things that transcend a single city, chiefly:

  • organising large-scale events

  • organising national actions, campaigns that confront the establishment or position DiEM25 as an effective alternative

  • coordinating work on DiEM25's policies, such as national adaptation of the PAE as well as preparing topics specific to that country

  • writing press releases and editorials on from a DiEM25 perspective for national consumption (either for the national press or diem25.org)

  • maintaining relationships with both establishment and independent media

  • defining PR goals and plans

  • developing content to sharpen PR activities, like style guides, talking points

  • arming supporters with arguments to spread the word (social media graphics, data)

  • gathering country-specific intelligence, e.g. on the political situation

  • speaking about DiEM25 at conferences

  • exploring opportunities to cooperate with social movements etc. in their country

  • ensuring that DiEM25 is active on national social media

  • maintaining contact to all DSCs in their country / helping start new ones

  • maintaining contact to members / answering public inquiries

For this reason, there will be several pilot countries where the DSCs send some of their most active people to provisional national committees that are tasked with this kind of work. Later, as the DiEMers in each country get to know each other better through assemblies and common actions, the provisional national committees will be replaced by actual national committees by means of free elections.

The pilot countries are: Belgium, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Germany, Greece - and possibly the Netherlands (pending a VC vote). The national committees and national association documents will also have to be approved by the VC.

These are exciting times for DiEM25!

News from the CC - please forward to all DSC members

Dear all,

please inform your DSC members of the following two important changes, which had been widely requested:

  1. We have solved the problem of CC members not seeing members' emails due to unfamiliar addresses. If you use the new form at https://internal.diem25.org/pages/contact_cc , you can write a message that will get delivered to all CC members. Please use this only for questions that concern the CC directly, not general requests for information which could be answered by secretaries.

  2. There is now a preliminary DiEM25 budget at https://internal.diem25.org/pages/budget . It gives a rough idea of the costs that we cannot avoid each month. Of course this was written without having any assurance of funding, as DiEM25's income has been sporadic and varying wildly. As soon as the income is more predictable, we will present a more reliable monthly budget and then a financial statement showing how actual expenses compared to the budgeted ones. This page will develop into a full-fledged transparency platform.

Thank you all and have a nice day!

4.2 TiSA-tilaisuus Suomen Sosiaalifoorumissa 1.4.

4.3 Kriittisen ay-väen suunnalta tullut yhteydenotto yhteistilaisuudesta SSF:iin

CETA-kampanjan suunnittelukokous 1.3.2017

Läsnä: Kerstin, Annaleena, Johanna, Mirja, Marissa

1) Kansallisen kampanjoinnin yleiset linjat

  • Selvitetään, miten CETA:n ratifionti Suomessa etenee; Marko Ulvila jo selvittelemässä asiaa

  • Pyritään saamaan mahdollisimman laajapohjaisesti järjestöjä (ks. kohta 3) kamppailuun mukaan

  • Pyritään pikaisesti synnyttämään julkista, kriittistä keskustelua CETA:sta (ks. kohta 4)

2) Keskeiset teemat suomalaisesta näkökulmasta:

  • Työoikeudet

  • Kaivokset ja luonnonvarat

  • Sosiaali- ja terveyspalvelut, ”CETA-sote-kytky”

3) Listasimme tahot, jotka tulisi saada mukaan kamppailuun

  • Ay-järjestöt (Suomen sosiaalifoorumiin tulossa tilaisuus, jossa CETA-kamppailua

  • Kaivostoimijat (toimijoiden kanssa järjestettiin tapaaminen tammikuussa; pyritään pitämään yhteydet auki kaivostoimijoiden suuntaan)

  • Kepa (mukana SSF:n verotilaisuudessa, hienoa!)

  • Temaattisia argumentteja löytyy esimerkiksi Making sense on CETA -raportista

  • ”Sote-CETA-soppa”

  • Yhtiöittämispakko + yrityksille tarjottava investointisuoja = kusessa ollaan

  • Esko Seppänen: ”CETA – uusiliberalistien toivelaulukirja”

A narrative of empowerment and participation!

Hi Judith, and everyone else

As discussed with Yanis in Brussels, I have started a thread in Brussels and with the DSC coordination members to put together a short text introducing our policy papers (in attachment below)

It introduces the need for them but ALSO the process behind and the revolutionary and participative nature of our movement, offering a new narrative to what democracy in Europe can and should be, and inviting people to participate in it.

We believe it would be good to add it to the document to be presented in Rome already, and would like to have the CC behind us on this.

Let us know what you think, thanks and keep up the good work everyone!

Important issue for the future of DiEM25

Dear Alessio, Dear All,

sorry for the repetition but repetita iuvant.

Given that not all the DiEM25 people read the forum, I seize the opportunity of this mailing list to raise a fundamental issue that I already raised in the forum and in the validating council mailing list: de-labeling DiEM25.

I would be grateful if you could avoid terms like "comrades" in our messages and in official or public discussions. Although I do not like capitalism and I embrace many social values, I'm not a comrade. Although I do not like plutocracy (as Mussolini said but not did) and this wild (uncontrolled) immigration, I'm not a fascist. These are labels that I do NOT want and many other people within DiEM25 share my views.

I prefer to discuss on how to solve the problems of the European unemployed and the extra-European economic immigrants. This is going to become a war between poor people, we don't want this! The matter of the refugees is another story.

DiEM25 is a democratic movement that MUST include everyone, our Manifesto promotes universal values that can and should be accepted by everyone. Left, centre, right belong to the past and we must look forward to the future.

We must talk to all the people, particularly to those who vote for Salvini, Wilders, Le Pen and so on...explain to them why our policies address their concerns (unemployment, immigration, security). I warn you all: if we fail in doing this, or we simply don't do this, we are just wasting our time.

Thanks a lot for your attention.

DSC flags for the "March for Europe" ?

Hi comrades,

I am contacting you regarding the participation of DiEM25 to the "March for Europe" in Rome.

In an attempt to show our diversity and at the same our unity we'are thinking to print a flag for each DSC.

Depending on the total number of confirmed participants we could select a number of cities in an equal manner to represent all different countries.

The design of the flag will be very simple. Just the DiEM25 logo and the name of the city. You can find two examples enclosed to this email. Just think the name of your DSC at the place of "Cagliari".

We would really appreciate your comments and your views on our proposal.

I am contacting you also to define the total approximate number of people coming to Rome for the March. Could you confirm the number of people from your DSC willing to participate ?

Thank you very much in advance!

Ciao and Carpe DiEM!

Social Media during END Weekend

Dear all,

the big weekend is coming closer :)

Members from all over Europe will be there (march, theatre, art event).

I am writing to you concerning DiEMs social media strategies and appearance on the weekend.

We (Luis and I) created a Telegram chat for the Rome weekend. In the chat will be members who are physically present, who will share pics, clips from the march and the other events in the chat with the members who will be virtually present during the END weekend.

Who of you has time and would like to help making DiEM as visible as possible, posting, tweeting the pics?

The Slack Luis created was already mentioned here.

There is a channel for social media. During the next week it would be great if a bunch of you, who have experience with social media or any creative ideas how we can make DiEM rain in the World Wide Web on these days?

We will then put up a "basic strategy" (hashtags, captions...) for the virtually present members in the Telegram chat + Slack!!

Happy to hear from you!

Best

radio request from Germany

Hi everybody,

we got a request of a german radio reporter. She is searching for people

all over Europe, who are committed to the European idea to give an

interview. Maybe somebody is interested:)

Here is the request:

"Dear Citizens For Europe,I hope English is okay for you – I work as a

freelance reporter for the German radio station 1LIVE in Cologne and we

are planning on doing a weekly series on the radio concerning Europe/the

EU. I am looking for 5 motivated young people from all over Europe who

are working in projects favoring the EU or the idea of Europe as a

whole. The idea behind the series is that even though Brexit is upon us,

there are actually young people who believe in the European idea and

want to do something in order to strengthen it.

Maybe you could help me find a young person from any European country

who would be willing to do a radio interview in German or English with

me via Skype or phone. Ideally, this person would have to be between 20

and 35 years of age and is committed to the European idea and is working

for or with some kind of project supporting the EU or Europe. The idea

of the series is that young Europeans are doing something in their own

country of heritage. This can be in form of a journalistic project, a

protest march, a blog, collecting signatures for EU-causes...really

anything promoting the European idea

Do you think you could help me find someone as soon as possible?

Unfortunately, the series is supposed to start next week already

(Monday-Friday).

Thanks so much and best wishes from Germany,

DiEM25's European New Deal - and how to move forward

Dear all,

I hope you all got the newsletter today with the subject line "Can you help DiEM25 this weekend?". (If not, please add info@diem25.org to your whitelist.) This newsletter asks people to follow this weekend's events on our social media, to invite friends to follow DiEM25, to share their hopes for a different Europe using our #END_TINA hashtag and so on.

Here's a reminder of what you as DSCs can do, which they can't do:

  • Prepare materials that we can share through the official DiEM25 social media accounts. If you're in Rome, take photos and write down memorable quotes or slogans. If you're at home, prepare pics and all kinds of viral materials, explainers and thoughtful articles about the European New Deal. Share these in the Comms Slack, the END Telegram group, or, if you missed the invitations for both, send them to reto.thumiger@pressenza.com and volunteer@diem25.org . Also post them on your DSC's social media channels with the hashtag #END_TINA of course.

  • If your DSC is meeting in order to watch the livestream of the Rome event together, or if you're out on the streets protesting for a different Europe, take photos and post them with the hashtag #END_TINA

  • If you have access to a foreign-language DiEM25 site or social media account, ensure that there is news about the European New Deal in that language. At DiEM25-Central we're overworked just managing the event and uploading English-language info in the meantime... You can link to the summary at https://diem25.org/diem25-unveils-its-european-new-deal-an-economic-agenda-for-european-recovery/ for details. Starting tomorrow evening, when the draft of the European New Deal will be officially unveiled, you can share https://diem25.org/end, which will then be a beautiful explainer page. If you're preparing social media graphics, already put https://diem25.org/end as a link on these.

Also note a remarkable press statement ( https://diem25.org/diem25s-european-new-deal-demands-electoral-expression-yanis-varoufakis-tells-journalists/ ) from Yanis this afternoon. Essentially, DiEM25 started last year by answering WHY is DiEM25 needed, and now we've started to answer WHAT is needed (the European New Deal, but also better policies on transparency, refugees, democracy and so on). The next step will be to answer HOW these policies can become reality, how do we encourage governments to implement our policies, what do we do if parties or groups of members want to represent our policies at elections, and so on. For this purpose we will start a series of member consultations via the forum as soon as everyone is back from Rome. :)

These are exciting times! Carpe DiEM!

Better tool for discussing/amending the European New Deal

Dear all,

in line with Yanis' letter ( https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/diem25-dsc-coordination/E4rSFAlrWnw ) to you on March 9th, I want to ask if you have found any tool DiEM25 could use to discuss and amend the European New Deal, something better than the DiEM25 forum. Time is running out, because the big European New Deal discussion should start in five days, immediately after the presentation of the draft in Rome. The new tool should allow discussion and proposals for amendment (but not direct edits) to be tabled on a chapter-by-chapter basis and it should easily support hundreds of people voicing their opinion. Also, the tool needs to have an intuitive interface, since the majority of DiEM25 members are not computer-savvy, and the interface should ideally be available in several languages. If you know of any suitable software, please write to me!

Best wishes,

Judith

Better tool for discussing/amending the European New Deal

Hi Judith,

The Democracy in DiEM25 (DiD) and our "tooltesters" working group have considered a number of options (looking at functionality, familiarity, ease-of-use, fit with the DiEM25 ideals) and came to the following proposal with a short-term and a longer-term vision. We will also post this proposal in the forum, so all members will be able to discuss it:

PROPOSAL: TESTING COLLABORATIVE DOCUMENT TOOL

Challenge: we are looking for a document collaboration tool that will allow commenting whilst at the same time not allow editing. And that will do this for a large number of DiEM’s members.

The only tool we have found that will do this now immediately for a large number of reviewers simultaneously (as Judith requested) is Google Docs.

We realise this is not a preferred option for a lot of DiEM’ers. So we only suggest we use this perhaps only now for this END improvement exercise, because we simply need something now. So this is super-short term.

For the medium to long term we need to find something that satisfies the other DiEM25 criteria as well, like: improved security, future-proof, green, etc.

So we could collect comments together here on the END document directly in the G-Drive document collaboration tool. We would need to hold discussions on parts of the document in for instance Loomio.

For the next step, we are looking at including our own MyPads-style solution from the base Etherpad framework. So far this seems a good possibility. That would in the end mean having our own Document Collaboration tool free of charge on the DiEM25.org site. This should in one hit satisfy many of the existing concerns and requirements.

So the proposal would be:

NOW

  • Docs: For now directly we can all use Google Drive for responding directly to parts of the END green paper.

  • Discussions: We can now immediately use Loomio for the discussions.

SOON

  • Docs: On DiEM25.org we could have our own Etherpad, names for instance DiEMPad.

  • Discussions: For discussions, if DiEM25.org is not happy with the Forum there, we need to first investigate why, get clearer requirements and change or replace the Forum with something that suits the new requirements.

Democratically yours,

DiD and the tooltesters working group

Improving the European New Deal together - forward to DSC members please

Dear all,

Were you as inspired as I was by the Rome event? The echo has been great - it's clear that Europe has been waiting for its European New Deal (END). Already a bunch of politicians, movements, civil society organisations want to help us put pressure on Europe's governments to make this European New Deal a reality. However, it is not quite ready yet. This is our trajectory:

September 20th: calls for European New Deal proposals from members, DSCs and experts

January 16th: closed for proposals, END committee starts to prepare first draft

February 9th: summary of first draft ( https://diem25.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/170212_DiEM25_END_Summary_EN.pdf ) is published, first round of comments begins

--> March 25th: full first draft ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vzpzyjUEGPTyzT0D1s06lN-5zV_VrlkqLC-3QVMvsxI/edit?usp=sharing ) is published, second round of comments begins <-- we are here

May 3rd: second round of comments ends

ca. May 10th: END committee presents second draft, voting starts

ca. May 20th: our first policy paper is born?

(This will be the baseline; further improvements and additions are expected and some DSCs have already started to work on proposals for a supplement on economic policy for their country)

In order to improve this draft together, the DiD group and several others have suggested Loomio ( https://www.loomio.org/invitations/4a4dc7755991e2e1d90d ). We're ready to give it a try, to see if we should use this for the next policy papers as well. At the same time, we will continue to permit discussion via the forum, for those members who already have an account there and prefer a familiar interface. The document itself is available here ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vzpzyjUEGPTyzT0D1s06lN-5zV_VrlkqLC-3QVMvsxI/edit?usp=sharing ) in Google Docs. In order to suggest an addition or a change (significant changes only, no spelling corrections!), please go into the Google Doc ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vzpzyjUEGPTyzT0D1s06lN-5zV_VrlkqLC-3QVMvsxI/edit?usp=sharing ), scroll to the right section and use the Comment feature in the most appropriate place. Then, don't write a full comment but simply leave a link to your proposal. Write your actual proposal in the DiEM25 forum ( http://diem25.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=177 ) (we created subforums for this here ( http://diem25.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=177 )), on Loomio ( https://www.loomio.org/invitations/4a4dc7755991e2e1d90d ), or even in your own Google Doc if you want to suggest an addition that is several pages long. Other members will follow the link in the comment and they can discuss your suggestion in the same place.

If you already made a proposal in the first round, thank you! If you don't see your proposal included and it did arrive in time for the first draft, you can probably find an answer by the END committee in Appendix 8. Also going forward, the END committee does not promise to include every proposal - that would make for bad or inconsistent economic policy - but will consider all proposals and will explain their reasons for including / not including them.

Finally, let me say that preparing a set of good economic and social policies for Europe is a giant task, but popularizing them is an even bigger task. How can we explain all these very technical proposals to our families, friends and neighbours? Dutch DiEMers have made a great start: they created this gorgeous infographic ( https://diem25.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/END-infographic.gif ) (also used on our webpage ( https://diem25.org/end/ )), which we showed to everyone watching the Rome event. Wikileaks even tweeted it to 4.5 million people! Other DSCs have started to write stories or prepare quick, one-issue pictures for social media. Some CC and AP members are producing articles, editorials and videos ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O0OJ_VZJok ) for the media. We need all hands on deck for this! If your DSC can contribute, don't hesitate. And if you alone cannot create something, but you have graphics or video skills that you could lend to another group, contact Luis luismartin@luismartin.press, who will add you to the Comms talent pool.

Let's rock this!

Carpe DiEM!

Judith

P.S.: This message was sent only to the DSC Coordination group, so the other members in your DSC did not get it. Please forward it to everyone!

Tällä kerralla dudlaamme kokousajankohdasta siis tavallisuudesta poikkeavalla tavalla.

Kanada on ilmeisesti ratifioimassa ILO:n järjestäytymisoikeutta koskevan periaatteen.

TiSA

  • Uusi TiSA Uncovered -sivu on avautunut. Sivulla tarjolla muun muassa perustietoa sopimuksesta, raportteja ja linkkejä TiSA:n parissa kampanjoiviin toimijoihin.

TTIP

16.5.2017 tulee Euroopan unionin tuomioistuimelta päätös EU:n kompetenssista kauppasopimusten ratifioinnin suhteen.

Komission julkinen konsultaatio MIC:istä (Multilateral Investment Court) on sulkeutunut 15.3.2017. MIC:iä vastaan on olemassa ainakin kaksi nettivetoomusta: Campact ja WeMove.eu.

  1. Käytiin strategiakatsaus

Kansallista CETA-kampanjointia on suunniteltu tapaamisessa maaliskuun alussa (Marissa laittanut muistion TTIP-verkoston sähköpostilistoille).

Todettiin jälleen, että ay-lobbaus olisi Suomen osalta tärkeä kampanjakeino. Puhuttiin erilaisista keinoista vaikuttaa ay-liikkeeseen CETA-asiassa:

  • Kirjoituksia ay-lehtiin

  • Työpaja tm. ay-paikallisosastojen aktiivien kanssa

  • EPSU:n kriittisen kannan esiin nostaminen suomalaisia ay-toimijoita lähestyttäessä. Sovittiin, että pyritään saamaan ay-toimijoita osallistumaan EPSU:n koolle kutsumaan tempauspäivään. Kerstin etsii tapahtuman linkin. [Huomautus kokouksen jälkeen: Tempauspäivä onkin ehtinyt jo mennä.]

Sovittiin, että pyritään aktivoimaan myös TiSA-toimintaryhmää.

  1. Tulevat tapahtumat:

3.1 Veroseminaari Suomen Sosiaalifoorumissa 1.4. klo 13.00-14.45 Rakennusliitolla

3.2 TiSA-tilaisuus

  • Christer Lindholm joutui perumaan osallistumisensa 1.4, joten tilaisuus järjestetään Sosiaalifoorumista irrallisena tapahtumana. Korvaava ajankohta ei ole vielä selvillä.

3.3 Kapuloita CETA:n rattaisiin -työpaja Sosiaalifoorumissa 1.4. klo 15.00-16.45

  1. Muut esille tulevat asiat
  • 1.3. pidetyssä toiminnansuunnittelukokouksessa perustettiin uusi mediaseurantaryhmä, jossa Kerstin, Maria, Johanna, Mirja, Annaleena ja Marissa. Anna liittyi mukaan ryhmään.

veronvälttelyn mekanismeihin tulisi puuttua, jotta globaalin
kaupankäynnin ympäristöstä saataisiin terveempää? Mitä sudenkuoppia nyt
ratifioitaviin sopimuksiin kuten Ceta on sisällytetty? Mitä on mahdollista verovastuun ja vero-oikeudenmukaisuuden nimissä vaatia?

Onko veroparatiiseista tullut yimby (yes in my backyard) -ilmiöitä?

Multinational companies can benefit the trade agreements in order to
use them to prevent the fight against tax evasion, although the
consensus is increasing that tax havens practices are harmful. How
should we tackle tax evasion mechanisms in order to achieve a global
trading environment healthier? What are the pitfalls in agreements such
as Ceta? What are the possibilities of the fiscal responsibility and tax

Työpaja: Kapuloita CETA:n rattaisiin

Aika: Lauantai 1.4. klo 15-16:45
Paikka: Rakennusliitto (Siltasaarenkatu 4)

(In English below)

After the vote at the European Parliament the next step of the
ratification of CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) will
be national and regional parliaments in the EU member states. The
agreement has been criticised widely by e.g. the trade unions, civil
society and the EP Committee of the Employment and Social Affairs
(EMPL).

In this workshop we will discuss about the impacts of CETA and think over some ways to object it.

Something magic happened in Rome

Dear
friends,

I want to
share with all of you, also those who could not attend the Rome’s event, the magic moments we experienced the 25th
of March.

First of
all let me say thank you once again to all DiEMers who decided to join us from
every corner of Europe! Guys you have been the best thing that happened in Rome
on this day in which our New Deal was presented!

For the
first time in the young history of our movement we marched together. We marched
in an inspiring and impressive display, I was so excited to see new faces and also
people who have never participated in a march before. We were all very excited
not only for this first march, but to be part of the same radical movement!

We were not just a
man or a woman, Italian or Serbian, young or old, we were all Europeans united for a common cause!

We marched
together because with the same aim of being on the right side of history and to
send a message about democracy on a broader scale.

Also the informal
assembly we had in the afternoon was absolutely amazing. The whole discussion
was participated and very interesting. Several useful experiences and many
innovative proposals emerged with the aim to strengthen the capacities and the
effectiveness of our movement in achieving its objectives.

The exchange was
rich and passionate and allowed all of us to understand the massive work that every
single DSC is doing at the local, national and international level.

Adrian took
notes of the meeting and soon we will draft a brief summary with the emerging points
that we be circulated to all DSCs.

Everyday we
do our job of activites using all the tools made available by digital
technology: email, forums, social networks and mobile. But nothing can replace
the energy of meeting in real and march together and the warmth of a handshake or a hug.

This experience filled me with a lot of energy and much hope for our Europe and the
certainty that we can change it together!

Improving the European New Deal together - forward to DSC members please

Hi Judith,

Thank you for this great initiative. I know this is quite an experiment, and will be difficult to coordinate with so many people working on a single document. In order to streamline the discussion in Loomio, I created a proposal that spells out the way in which we could organise the Loomio discussion (closes in 3 day):

https://www.loomio.org/d/AXYJ4q2c/proposal/7pxNHEMr

I would propose that people can raise amendments to this proposal in the discussion thread, which can accordingly be incorporated within the proposal. I think it is necessary to have some agreement on the way in which we will have the discussion before starting to actually discuss the details of the END. Everyone participating in the Loomio group can vote on this proposal for streamlining the discussion, or propose an alternative one as well.

Looking forward to discuss with many of you in the Loomio group!

Best wishes,

Wessel

Tarkennusta END-paperin kommentointiohjeisiin: keskity sisältöön, älä muotoon

Dear all,

I noticed that several people forwarded my message as plain-text, so that DSC members could not see the Loomio invitation link or the Google Doc. Therefore, I have created a PDF that has all the links intact. Please spread this one.

Wessel, thanks for your initiative. I think we need to experiment to see which is the most effective way to draft amendment proposals together, that's also why we still have the forum as an option. We won't force everyone into Loomio until we're sure that Loomio is better and easier to understand even for the older generation.

One note on editing the text: it came straight from the economists; our Comms team has not yet edited it. This means that there are probably a lot of typos, but also places where more appropriate words or easier language could be used. It is not necessary for you to propose to change these because we will have proofreading before the final version. Only point out systematic issues like language that could be more inclusive. Generally focus on the content rather than the form. :)

Best wishes,

Judith

Next European Assembly (May, Berlin)

Dear friends,

in case you haven´t heard about it yet and in order to prevent miscommunication, here some infos about the next European DiEM assembly.

Following up the event in Rome in March, DiEM is coming to Berlin in May. There will be an official event on the 25th.

Some members, who have attended the events in Rome and some other active members have gathered on Zoom recently. We exchanged thoughts about Rome (especially the assembly for DiEM members) and started a conversation about how to organize the next DiEM assembly on the European level in Berlin.

It will probably take place on Saturday, 27th.

If you are interested in joining this collective planning process, please write to Luis (luismartin@luismartin.press) or Mehran (mkhalili@gmail.com) and ask them to invite you to Slack.

In this Slack we will have a channel in which we will share information and coordinate tasks. There will also be a follow up Zoom conference soon. The date will also be decided on in Slack.

I have attached the minutes of our last conference.

In case of questions, please feel free to ask me (elisa.stowe@googlemail.com).

Hope to see you soon.

Best,

Elisa

Next European Assembly (May, Berlin)

Dear all,

this assembly was planned without CC involvement, so unfortunately we have already booked our flights out of Berlin before the 27th. However, we arranged a room with a capacity of ca. 100 people for use by DSCs for 6 hours before the Berlin event on the 25th, and are planning to attend that gathering part of the time. Meanwhile, Dublin DSC is going to invite you to an assembly on democracy and the European constitution on the 27th (Ryanair?), as part of the launch of DiEM25 in Ireland.

Here is a full list of DSC meetup opportunities as far as I am aware:

May 6/7, Cologne: German DSCs meetup - general discussion & German provisional national committee - Judith and Srećko participating on behalf of the CC. Contact person is Elisa Stowe elisa.stowe@googlemail.com, acting as a facilitator for German DSCs.

May 25, Berlin: European DSCs are invited to gather between noon and 6pm in the red salon at Volksbühne (some CC participation). The next large DiEM25 evening event will start at 8pm at the same venue. Contact person is Susan Curvers slcurvers@gmail.com, acting as event coordinator for the CC.

May 27/28, Dublin: 'World Café' style discussions on democracy and a European constitution, followed by an evening event launching DiEM25 in Ireland, and a discussion of democracy in DiEM25 in the morning of the next day. Contact person is Wessel Reijers diem25ireland@gmail.com of Dublin1DSC.

July 7th, Hamburg: (unconfirmed) DiEM25 will probably have a venue for international DSCs to meet up during the G20 protests. Contact person is Sören Altstädt soeren.altstaedt@gmail.com of Hamburg1DSC.

September 9th, Brussels: (unconfirmed) large DiEM25 event in Brussels, including program for DSCs before. Contact person to be announced.

Next European Assembly (May, Berlin)

Dear all,

Yesterday the DSC Berlin decided that it want to use this

huge event at the 25th at Volksbühne Berlin where Yanis, etc. are

taking part, to strengthen the European-DSC-network.

First, as Judith mentioned, there will be a room at the Volksbühne

provided, the Green Saloon.

So, fortunately, the DSCs could use this room almost the whole day on

25th.

Second, before the information spreaded that there is an extra room

provided, the DSC Berlin thought its a good idea to connect this event

to an extra DSC-assembly anyways. Therefore there is the possibility

to get a second room for the 26th or 27th. This planning is completely

independent from the Volksbühne-event, nevertheless, for sure linked :).

So far, as the DSC Berlin provides this second room and also take care

for organisation and format, it is very likely that friday, the 26th it

will be.

Third, the 27th as a date came up because it was thought that a weekend

DSC-assembly is better as more people can attend a saturday or even a

sunday. Turns out, it doesn't make much sense to overleap a day. In the

end the DSC Berlin probably will do most of organisation so its up to

them

at which date there will be an additional DSC-meeting, which will be

announced

soon.

25M - SERATA TEATRO

Dear friends, comrades, brothers, diemeers and so on,

Here my two cents on Rome 25M event. I follow DiEM25 since its beginning and volunteered since the first event in Rome. The movement is growing really fast and also programs, papers and ideas.

It's a very complex and transnational gathering of different people around few but crucial ideas and it's not easy to make a synthesis of all needs and aspirations. But what I saw in Rome was a stage with a growing bunch of progressive and leftist leaders sharing a program from france, italy, spain, uk, poland, croatia and so on. This is something new and very very important. It can be considered an historic matter and with a long term view we have to judge it.

We hopefully will share a long long path to make an European Dream become true and I think that events such the Rome 25M are very important to share ideas and make a sort of team building but cannot be the place for political elaboration. There is no time nor enough space. We can share idea and proposal in DSC and on line and try to strengthen the link between DSCs and CC and among European DSCs.

Personally I really appreciate the way in DiEM25 we debate and make meeting work with Giuseppina Moderation that's great. We all need to learn to be more effective in public speaking to make our ideas worth and sharable among different people, from different countries and languages. It's a great effort but I'm learning many important things from this experience. The Study and the elaboration of thoughts I made about politics are quite time consuming and not easy to share but making and effort to made all that easy to understand in english and with few bullet points it is really improving the thoughts themselves. Everything become more clear to myself too! and left time to go further deep!

The European New Deal is the core of DiEM25 strategy. I think we all have to make an effort to improve it and spread all across Europe. It's crucial to ask CC to make the discussion possible in one virtual place to contribute. We have to stay focussed in spreading the movement proposals and make it grow on European political scenario. We really have a post ideological economic programme that cannot be ignored. We can catalyze all the people who is looking for an hope for Europe and save it from growing fascism or neoliberism.

The success of DiEM25 does not rely on Fabio Masetti, Lorenzo Marsili, Alessio Satta or Yanis Varoufakis role in DiEM25 but on Ideas and solutions we will be able to transform in political actions. So I think we have to stay focussed on actions nor on persons or countries. We have to stay focussed on themes without enlarge too much the area of interventions which is already quite large and complex.

A national coordination of different and small DSC is important. I think that we have to build a national platform, National DSC newspaper with a sort of newsroom organization with members from every national DSC that contribute with updates from different DSC that can produce contents around DiEM25 political Pillars.

I liked the proposal from Bologna DSC to use short videos to update about DSC activities.

Thank you all and keep get going!

Bringing DiEM25's Progressive Agenda to elections near you

Dear all,

DiEM25 always said that our first priority would be to develop a set of concrete, rational policies. Then, if these policies were very good, they would naturally find a way of electoral expression. In Rome, we released the draft European New Deal ( https://diem25.org/end/ ) (contribute to its finalisation here ( https://www.diem25.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=177 )) and launched an open call ( https://diem25.org/diem25s-european-new-deal-demands-electoral-expression-yanis-varoufakis-tells-journalists/ ) for parties/municipalities/trades unions/social movements/civil society organisations and citizens to join us in creating a pan-European electoral expression of the European New Deal. Existing groups may wish to adopt DiEM25's program, or there may be groups of members who want to form a new party for their municipal or provincial elections.

How should we deal with this? Seeing the European New Deal and the entire Progressive Agenda implemented would of course be amazing - much better than it sitting on a shelf in a library ;-) - but we need to have an open discussion about this before we go any further.

We have prepared a special section in the forum and some initial questions to structure the discussion: http://diem25.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=176

Please go there and tell us your opinion!

We have tentatively allocated two months to this discussion. By the time we meet again in Berlin on the 25th of May, we should be able to tell the waiting journalists how we plan to make our ideas a reality, at least in general terms, and then work out concrete matters by autumn. All subject to internal votes of course, but before we vote we should discuss. Please contribute, and carpe DiEM!

Provisional National Committees

Dear all,

in March I communicated the VC's general approval of the Provisional National Committees (PNC) program for a limited number of pilot countries. Reminder: PNCs are the national coordinators and workbees of DiEM25, who ensure the smooth everyday operation of DiEM25 in their countries. They will not take major decisions regarding the political direction of DiEM25 – these will continue to require transnational all-member votes. They will also not be able to place orders on DSCs. With those fears out of the way ;-) the CC has brainstormed and written up the process by which we hope to encourage the creation of PNCs in all pilot countries over the next few months, to be replaced by elected National Committees before the end of 2017. Please find all details at https://diem25.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Provisional_National_Committees.pdf . This will also be announced in our next newsletter.

We consider PNCs to be a major step in the internal development of DiEM25, as they mean that there will suddenly be a lot more people working on the day-to-day operations and the communications between different parts of DiEM25, hopefully ensuring a much better experience for everyone. Also, this is the first time we're encouraging our most active volunteers to self-organise beyond the DSC level. If you live in a pilot country, CC members should have either contacted your DSC already or will do so shortly, in order to help with the next steps.

Tervetuloa verkoston yleiskokoukseen 23.4. ja tapahtumasuunnittelukokoukseen 11.4.!

Hei,

Tapaamme siis sunnuntaina 23.4. klo 16-18 Kirjasto 10:n ryhmätilassa (Elielinaukio 2 G, Helsinki). Kokoukseen ovat lämpimästi tervetulleita kaikki kauppapoliittisesta kampanjoinnista kiinnostuneet!

Hei,

Alla on muistio 23.3. pidetystä yleiskokouksesta. Kiitokset kaikille osallistuneille! Puhuimme kokouksessa, että yrittäisimme sopia huhtikuun yleiskokouksesta hyvissä ajoin, jotta saisimme varattua sille ryhmätilan Kirjasto 10:stä. Ryhmätila näyttää kuitenkin olevan todella varattu; löysin sovitulta ajanjaksolta vain yhden järkevän ajan, sunnuntaina 23.4. klo 16-18.

Tällä kerralla dudlaamme kokousajankohdasta siis tavallisuudesta poikkeavalla tavalla. 1. Käytiin läpi sopimusten tilanne

CETA

Kanada on ilmeisesti ratifioimassa ILO:n järjestäytymisoikeutta koskevan periaatteen.

TiSA

  • Uusi TiSA Uncovered -sivu on avautunut. Sivulla tarjolla muun muassa perustietoa sopimuksesta, raportteja ja linkkejä TiSA:n parissa kampanjoiviin toimijoihin.

TTIP

16.5.2017 tulee Euroopan unionin tuomioistuimelta päätös EU:n kompetenssista kauppasopimusten ratifioinnin suhteen.

Komission julkinen konsultaatio MIC:istä (Multilateral Investment Court) on sulkeutunut 15.3.2017. MIC:iä vastaan on olemassa ainakin kaksi nettivetoomusta: Campact ja WeMove.eu.

  1. Käytiin strategiakatsaus

Kansallista CETA-kampanjointia on suunniteltu tapaamisessa maaliskuun alussa (Marissa laittanut muistion TTIP-verkoston sähköpostilistoille).

Todettiin jälleen, että ay-lobbaus olisi Suomen osalta tärkeä kampanjakeino. Puhuttiin erilaisista keinoista vaikuttaa ay-liikkeeseen CETA-asiassa:

  • Kirjoituksia ay-lehtiin

  • Työpaja tm. ay-paikallisosastojen aktiivien kanssa

  • EPSU:n kriittisen kannan esiin nostaminen suomalaisia ay-toimijoita lähestyttäessä. Sovittiin, että pyritään saamaan ay-toimijoita osallistumaan EPSU:n koolle kutsumaan tempauspäivään. Kerstin etsii tapahtuman linkin. [Huomautus kokouksen jälkeen: Tempauspäivä onkin ehtinyt jo mennä.]

Sovittiin, että pyritään aktivoimaan myös TiSA-toimintaryhmää.

  1. Tulevat tapahtumat:

3.1 Veroseminaari Suomen Sosiaalifoorumissa 1.4. klo 13.00-14.45 Rakennusliitolla

3.2 TiSA-tilaisuus

  • Christer Lindholm joutui perumaan osallistumisensa 1.4, joten tilaisuus järjestetään Sosiaalifoorumista irrallisena tapahtumana. Korvaava ajankohta ei ole vielä selvillä.

3.3 Kapuloita CETA:n rattaisiin -työpaja Sosiaalifoorumissa 1.4. klo 15.00-16.45

  1. Muut esille tulevat asiat
  • 1.3. pidetyssä toiminnansuunnittelukokouksessa perustettiin uusi mediaseurantaryhmä, jossa Kerstin, Maria, Johanna, Mirja, Annaleena ja Marissa. Anna liittyi mukaan ryhmään.

Call for contribution

Dear all,

We are organising a DiEM event in Brussels on September 9th.

The title of the event will be "the real state of the union" according to the annual state of the union of Juncker.

The detailed program remains to be decided, but we would like to let ordinary Europeans express their state of the union - what are their everyday-problems and sorrows, what do they wish for the future and what do they think is important for the future of Europe?

This is why me make a call today to all of you to help us collect as much voices as possible from all around Europe!

We would like to collect short video statements from your countries, regions and cities! You as a DSC can record a short statement or you go out on the street and ask people about their views and personal situation and send these statements to us!

If you have any questions and / or would like to contribute, please send us your thoughts and statements to official@diem25.be !

Thanks a lot and a good Easter break to all of you!

Hello fellow DiEMers,

We read about your event on September 9th and would like to let you know that we, in Porto, have also scheduled an event for that same day with a similar theme. So, how about making the most out of this? Here's what we have in mind. We can make some videos that you asked for, and we could also exchange opinions and ideas about what to do. Our event is scheduled for 4 o'clock and it'd be great if the time of both events coincided. One of our members even suggested that if more countries/ cities got on board and decided to also host an event we could call it the 3D Day: DiEM25 Democracy Debates.

Do let us know what you think. Looking forward to working together!

CC video discussions

Dear all,

Do you have questions that you wish to hear the CC debate? In the next few weeks, some CC members will aim to record several 15-minute videos (via teleconference) discussing 5 questions each. These questions should come from DSC members, so start thinking and post your questions in this thread!

Note this does not replace the "Contact the CC" function in the Members Area - but by using that function, one CC member will answer you by email, whereas if you submit a question here, and the CC considers it worthwhile, we will record a video discussion.

I'm looking forward to what this will yield!

Carpe DiEM!

Judith

P.S.: It's spring and many groups are waking up again. If you would like to rejuvenate and grow your DSC, send me an email that I can pass on to all DiEM25 members in your city. Also, if you find yourself traveling to a city of >100,000 people, even for just one day, there's a good chance that you could help local DiEMers there - email me! volunteer@diem25.org

[ttipinfo] [Kutsu] CETA ja SOTE – Miten käy valinnanvapauden? Seminaari eduskunnan Kansalaisinfossa 27.4.

[Kutsua saa levittää]

Seminaari: CETA ja SOTE – Miten käy valinnanvapauden?

Aika: Torstai 27.4.2017 klo 10:00-11:30
Paikka: Eduskunnan Kansalaisinfo, Arkadiankatu 3, Helsinki

Järjestäjät: Eduskunnan Attac ja Suomen TTIP-verkosto

EU:n
ja Kanadan välinen talous- ja kauppasopimus CETA hyväksyttiin
helmikuussa 2017 Euroopan parlamentissa, ja se siirtyi siten
hyväksymisprosessinsa viimeiseen vaiheeseen, äänestettäväksi EU:n
jäsenmaissa. Suomessa hallituksen esitys sopimuksen kansallisesta
toimeenpanosta on valmisteilla, ja se pyritään ulkoasiainministeriön
mukaan saamaan valmiiksi kesään mennessä. Millaisia seikkoja hallituksen
esitystä valmistellessa olisi hyvä ottaa huomioon? Miten sopimukseen
sisältyvä investointisuoja vaikuttaa kansallisen sääntelyn
mahdollisuuksiin?

Seminaarin avaa eduskunnan Attacin puheenjohtaja Erkki Tuomioja.

Tilaisuus on avoin, maksuton ja esteetön. Keskustelu käydään suomeksi. Tervetuloa!

How abou more internal Democracy?

Hello to all,

As a coordinator I have already passed this oppurtunity [to ask CC questions, addition: Tuulia] to Athens members. As a member I have some questions mostly for the intenal proceedings that I would like to be discussed by CC members.

1) Untill one month ago I could forward an email to Judith and she could forward it to the Athens members. Why did this stop and was implemented a limit "one email per month"? How are we going to grow locally if we cannot communicate often with local members,
how are we going to inform them about next meetings, activities etc? I note that we keep a mailing list of the people who have come to our meetings which is much smaller that Judith's. Lastly, how are supposed to idetify members of Diem25 in our meeting if
we cannot have access to the email lists?

2) Why do we vote only for great occasions and not about internal matters (minutes of CC, budget, PNCs, survey of DiD, mailing list etc) and how can a vote procedure start from below? Can this happen in a single country, if the matter is national? (example
PNCs)

3) Why were the DSCs created, if not to produce volunteers for DIEM25? Why are people out of DSCs selected and not even voted to perform crucial work in DIEM25 Greece like comunication coordination. (email, social media, site etc)

I am addressing all these questions in a good manner, because I believe DIEM25 is the only hope we have in Europe and I want DIEM25 to be improved both democratically and transparently and not to disintigrate. In the last internal elections very few
members voted. Maybe we should change a little and vote also for internal procedures that matter and are closer to us.

Apostolos Gogakos,

Save the dates! DiEM25 Ireland Launch on May 27 & 28 2017: Towards a Democratic, European Constitution

DiEM25 Ireland Launch

"Towards a Democratic, European Constitution"

May 27 & 28, 2017, Dublin

Dear Democrats, dear Friends,

We are excited to let you know that DiEM25 will be launching in Ireland ( http://www.diem25dublin.eu/ ) during the weekend of the 27th and the 28th of May, 2017. Save the dates. The main event will happen on the evening of the 27th of May with confirmed speakers so far: Yanis Varoufakis and Nessa Childers, MEP. After the great event planned in Berlin on the 25th and 26th of May, we hope to continue the conversation on how to achieve DiEM25's goals in Dublin.

We believe that the European Union is disintegrating and Europeans are losing their faith in the possibility of European solutions to European problems. That is why we invite you to join us at our launch to come together despite our diverse political backgrounds - Greens, radical left, liberal etc. - in order to begin discussions on how we can repair Europe, to make Europe a realm of shared prosperity, peace and solidarity for all.

The launch of DiEM25 Ireland will be people centred. What we, the people of Europe, desire to achieve and how we want to achieve it, will be the subject of our main “World Cafe”. Your contribution, your opinion and your work are necessary. Europe is not the European Union or the European institutions as we know them today. Europe is the peoples of Europe, and it is our time to speak up.

We will be holding workshops in the participatory format of a World Cafe ( http://www.theworldcafe.com/ ) during the 27th of May, which will be followed by an evening gathering with international speakers and the results of the day’s work. The World Cafe discussions will center around a plan for a future Democratic European Constitution. On Sunday the 28th, discussions will center around the movement building of DiEM25 itself: how to improve our own organisation, empower the members and improve our own transparency and democracy.

Programme:

May 26, evening: Informal gathering with DiEM25 members coming from across Europe

May 27, morning & afternoon @ The Complex ( http://thecomplex.ie/ ): Participatory World Cafe - small scale discussions around the topic of a Democratic, European Constitution

May 27, evening @ Tivoli Theatre ( http://www.tivoli.ie/ ): Main DiEM25 Launch Event with members of the CC and the Advisory Panel. Confirmed Speakers: Yanis Varoufakis & Nessa Childers (MEP)

May 28, morning & afternoon: Workshop sessions, focusing on movement building in DiEM25 (how to shape our democracy, transparency, and member's engagement)

Important note: Tickets are available for the separate parts of the programme. If you would like to attend all parts or a combination of parts, please reserve all tickets accordingly.

What sort of Europe do we want? How do we want Europe to function to protect the most vulnerable in society and to ensure fairness and democracy for all? DiEM25 Dublin invites you to take part in this conversation. It does not matter where you come from, which political party or social movement you follow, whether you represent yourself or others. If you believe that Europe should become a place of uncontested democracy and solidarity and if you want to take a part in the shaping of our common future, please join us.

For further information see our Dublin website ( http://www.diem25dublin.eu/ ) where you can book your tickets for Saturday night (€ 8,-), register for the World Cafe, and find a full programme for the weekend. You can register for the separate parts of the event here ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/diem25-ireland-launch-towards-a-democratic-european-constitution-tickets-33736771592 ).

We hope to welcome many of you in Dublin at the end of May!

[If you have any queries or wish to offer to speak on the day please feel free to contact us!]

Democratically yours,

G20 in Hamburg, July 7 & 8

Dear all,

as our next international assembly in Berlin is approaching fast, I'd like to take our projection a little further already.

The next G20 summit will happen in Hamburg Germany on July 7th & 8th.

There will be a DiEM-Event on the eve of July 7th with Elif Shafak, Srecko Horvat, Saskia Sassen, Lorenzo Marsili and Thomas Seibert. Please inform your fellow DiEMers and join the event in Hamburg! Currently we're checking out places to sleep, as hotels are already booked out. I'm sure many local DiEMers will provide places and also there will be to camps for G20 guests. We will arrange a "DiEM25-Barrio" in at least one camp. Also there will be a huge Demo on July 8th (more than 150.000 ppl expected so far). DiEM25 should and will also have a trail!

Apart from that there will be an alternative Media Centre in the city centre for Journalists who are not part of main stream media. It will last from July 4th to July 9th, there will be 500 work places (free Wi-Fi and opportunities to cut video and audio material), daily press conferences, etc. It will be good to get as much DiEM related Journalists in there as possible! ;) so please give interested DiEM Journos my contact and I will hook them up with the alt media centre!

I'd also like to invite to the Alternative Summit which DiEM and 65 other international organisations realised. It will be on July 5th & 6th (https://www.facebook.com/events/432699343743538/?notif_t=plan_user_joined&notif_id=1493152243392293). Apart from Salih Muslim, Angela Davis, Ann Wright, Jayati Gosh and many more also DiEM will be present on some podiums. Srecko will join the last Podium on the eve of July 6th.

Let's turn G20 in Hamburg into a historic event for global solidarity and let's put DiEM25 at the very core of it!

Best regards and carpe DiEM!

Social Media @ Volksbühne Berlin

This one goes out to all graphic designers, social media poets, posters, tweeters, sharers,

our next big event is coming up!

On May 25th/26th DiEM will be @Volksbühne Berlin.

It is time for us now to form a Social Media group, for Berlin and maybe even for beyond?! Why not think big?

Who is in?

What we need and how we are going to do it:

  • Find responsible members from every major DiEM social media account (DiEM Italy, Greece..)

  • prepare "eye candy"; graphics, info explaining END, timetables about weekend, whatever crosses our minds

  • share material in a dropbox

  • share pics/ clips/ documentation in a telegram group

  • 1 main responsible person who is IN BERLIN for social media during weekend, for questions

How:

All discussions and planning will take place on Slack. (Hashtags, content we will focus on, language we want to use)

Therefore, please write to Luis (luismartin@luismartin.press) or Mehran (mkhalili@gmail.com) and ask them to invite you to Slack.

There will be a doc on Slack where we will list the responsible members.

There will also be a link for dropbox, where we will collect all the materials.

Then we will create this Telegram group and share pics/ clips on ground and create a huge DiEM cloud on the weekend.

Btw: any IT people here?

Please share the info with your DSCs and let´s make it happen together.

Warmly,

Elisa

Muistio TTIP-verkoston huhtikuun yleiskokouksesta ja dudle seuraavasta

Moikka!

Alla muistio sunnuntaina pidetystä yleiskokouksesta. Kiitos kaikille kokoustajille! Kirjasto 10:n Ryhmätila näkyy toukokuullekin olevan hurjan varattu. Maailma kylässä -viikonloppua ja 30.5. tiistaita lukuun ottamatta ei näkynyt olevan ainoatakaan yli tunnin vapaaslottia, joten tein meille alustavan varauksen tiistaille 30.5. klo 17-19.

Läsnä: Annaleena Tuovinen, Ernst Mecke, Marissa Varmavuori, Kertsin Söderholm, Maija Amperla, Petra Auramo, Maria Brommels, Heikki Ketoharju, Johanna Kähäri

  1. Käytiin lyhyt nimikierros

  2. Käytiin läpi sopimusten tilanne

CETA

Tähän on syytä tarttua.

  • Johanna laittaa aktiivilistalle raportin, johon on koottu miten sopimukset ratifioidaan eri maissa, ml. Suomessa.

Collective Intelligence for citizens activation

Hey Everyone, good morning!

I just wanted to share with you a short Toolkit we put together to help anyone organize collective intelligence activation sessions and engage citizens in policy.

We came up with this after organizing a Citizen's cabinet in Brussels - and thought it could be very helpful to put something together to help others do the same in their cities, communities and even projects.

The doc is 6 pages long + annexes to help you replicate it.

Let me know what you think, if there is information missing, and - if you are doing something of the kind (or know who is), let us know and maybe we can lend a hand!

Enjoy! ;)

Carpe DiEM everyone, welcome to the changing world ;)

  1. Käytiin lyhyt nimikierros

  2. Käytiin läpi sopimusten tilanne

CETA

Tähän on syytä tarttua.

  • Johanna laittaa aktiivilistalle raportin, johon on koottu miten sopimukset ratifioidaan eri maissa, ml. Suomessa.

  • EPSU:n ja ETUC:in kriittisen kannan esiin nostaminen suomalaisia ay-toimijoita lähestyttäessä.

ECJ tuomitsi toimen, jolla EU-komissio epäsi kansalaisaloitteesta TTIP:tä ja CETA:a vastaan

Euroopan korkein oikeus ECJ, European Court of Justice of the European
Union, on tänään 10.toukokuuta 2017 tuominnut laittomaksi EU-komission toimen, jolla se
epäsi kansalaisaloitteen TTIP:tä ja CETA:a vastaan.

Nimiä kansalaisaloitteeseen kerättiin kuitenkin itseorganisoidusti ja niitä
kertyi yli 3,2 miljoonaa. Moni eurooppalainen allekirjoitti vetoomuksen

Can you please:

  1. count the number of men/women in your DSC?

  2. white/people of colour

It would be amazing if you could give us the numbers according to this list.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Guilherme,

Thank you for sharing this, it's very helpful to have these kind of resources available for DiEM25 events. As our 2-cents (DiEM25 Dublin), I'd like to share the "World Cafe Walkthrough" that we'll use during the DiEM25 Ireland Launch event. We will have a world cafe with about a 100 participants during the morning and afternoon of the 27th of May.

I'm not sure what would be a good repository for these types of documents? Perhaps we should work on a shared Google Drive for DiEM25 or a Dropbox folder (similar to the one for promotion materials)?

Best wishes,

Also, I am sharing another kind of meeting structuring, for less people (6-10max), in attachment.

(we call it a Brainstorm SWOT 2.0 - because it sounds so cool!) :p

I agree +++++++ with a shared depository on how to structure a meeting for sure!

We could also add a file with names of people that are willing to help/support other DSCs with brainstorming/polishing/adapting the design.

To all: EVALUATION, call for submission

Dear Elisa,

Thank you so much for your email and please excuse the delay in getting

back to you.

We have been hesitant about responding to this survey.

We don't take an issue with the binary approach but rather with the

(undisclosed) premises of doing this exercise altogether.

I hope you read this understanding that we mean the best intentions, but

we are not quite sure of the end goal of this exercise, as it hasn't

been disclosed any further than the fact that the data will be used in a

workshop on gender.

Besides the general discomfort in profiling our group in a mass email,

we are rather afraid that the information would be used for an approach

to equality that we do not share.

From our experience, such organizational consultancy exercises on

diversity stem from an egalitarian school of thought centered around

"equality of outcomes" instead of focusing on "equal opportunities" and

diversified outreach.

I think we would have been more inclined to share how and to what extent

we tried to reach out, or we have been approached by, different genders,

ethnicities, education and income levels. At the moment we are being

asked to respond to current group skin color, gender and academic position.

I hope you understand our concerns. Perhaps you could take this

opportunity to tell us more about your premises, what you would like to

accomplish with this workshop and how?

Kind regards,

Franco

To all: EVALUATION, call for submission

Dear Franco,

Thank you so much for your response.

I can only repeat what Roberta has just said and stress that this is exactly the debate we would like to have. Great!

This approach is by no means meant to reproduce the dominant mode of talking about Gender in political and public discourse as merely an issue of Equality, that can be quantified.

Unfortunately DiEMs structure reflects patriarchal society in terms of representation and participation. This effects our movement and is a challenge.

In our workshop we would like to discuss DiEMs organizing principles in terms of Gender "equality" and their limits.

Do you have any strategies?

Ideas?

Thanks again and really looking forward to meeting you!

Message from CC regarding pan-European Party

Dear DSCs, (please forward this to all members)

We are writing to you following the successful meetings in Berlin to communicate to you our thoughts and concerns regarding DiEM25's latest deliberations and plans.

Ever since the event in Rome two months ago, we DiEMers have been discussing how we should give the European New Deal an electoral expression. The dedicated forum for this topic (https://diem25.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=176 ( https://diem25.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=176 ), must be logged in to access) has been visited by over 2000 members now. However, on the stage of the Volksbühne, a statement was made which referred to the process for moving towards an announcement on 9th September that DiEM25 would become a transnational pan-European party. As the CC we regret that, caught up in the enthusiasm of the moment, the phrasing was less careful than it ought to have been, leaving out and not emphasizing enough internal democratic processes that will lead to any such announcement or indeed decision. Rest assured that, as is our basic organising principle, all members and DSCs will be given an active and equal role in reaching any such decision.

The CC's view on the matter is that, in countries where political parties exist who are willing to adopt our basic values and the European New Deal, DiEM25 should support them wholeheartedly, just as we supported Zagreb is OURS. And in countries lacking such political forces, DiEM25 should consider running independently. The European party would thus not be monolithic but an alliance of forces who agree on basic values and the European New Deal.

We are asking DSCs to discuss the issue of a transnational pan-European party. The forum can serve for horizontal discussion between individual members and DSCs in various countries. Additionally, please survey DSC members and summarise your views to the CC before the end of July. Then we will start an all-member vote in order to come to a collective decision well ahead of the Brussels event.

Yesterday, the DiEM25 Ireland Launch Event took place. We had a great and inspiring evening with Yanis Varoufakis, Nessa Childers, Aidan Regan, Alice-Mary Higgins and Vincent Browne.

Unfortunately, a new link for our live streaming was created just before the start of the event - which was different from the one we distributed. If you'd like to re-watch the live streaming, you can do so by going to the following link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtrn6UbVmGQ&t=5884s

We will also be creating an after-movie which will be ready soon!

Best wishes,

DiEM 25 UK candidate vote: concerns

Hi,

I wanted to circulate my concerns about the vote that has recently been called on DiEM25 UK’s proposal to support 15 specific candidates in the UK general election on 6th June. I have made my concerns known to DiEM25 UK via Slack, and judging by the responses there, there are others who share these concerns.

My concerns are:

  • The idea of ‘principled voting’ seems something of a distraction at the moment, IMHO, given the UK electoral system and the fact that we are days away from a general election. After the election, there will either be a Conservative government or a Labour government (no third option is at all likely). As with the French elections and Macron vs Le Pen, people in the UK need to cast their vote for the party most likely to beat the Conservatives in their area. Voting for any other party is, given the first-past-the-post electoral system in force, to waste one’s vote. A web site exists, tactical2017.com, which for every constituency in the UK will advise you on which way to vote to beat the Conservatives. I understand DiEM25 UK was aware of this site but chose not to recommend DiEM members use it, but rather to propose this list of candidates instead. Given that there are 650 MPs in the UK parliament I can’t help but think that recommending this web site would have been much more effective than recommending a list of 15 candidates. I also understand from DiEM25 UK that this list is part of a longer-term plan to make contact with particular MPs who share our progressive values. This does of course seem valuable, but I feel is something that should be happening in the background for now.

  • The inclusion of Nick Clegg in the list of MPs DiEMers are recommended to vote for. As it happens, in his constituency of Sheffield Hallam, it seems he is the one most likely to win and keep the Conservatives out, but in general, as Deputy Prime Minister in coalition with the Conservatives, I’m not aware of any progressive policy he succeeded in getting implemented. The only thing he did succeed in doing was a) breaking a cast-iron promise to abolish student tuition fees and b) supporting the Health and Social Care Act, which included moves towards creeping privatisation of the UK National Health Service. Hence while he may espouse progressive policies I’m sceptical he can really be trusted to implement them in practice.

More generally, I discussed this type of vote, which concerns a local issue but on which all DiEMers are invited to vote, with other members at the Berlin event. Many of us, while we understand the laudable principle that all issues are treated as European and therefore everyone gets to vote, are concerned that in practice, depending on the peculiarities of each vote, it can be extremely hard to understand local issues in sufficient depth to be able to make an informed decision. As regards Nick Clegg, for instance, on the basis of the very limited information provided one might consider him to be an appropriate candidate to recommend, but when one is made aware of his record one might view things differently.

Thanks and Carpe DiEM,

DiEM 25 UK candidate vote: concerns

Dear Adam,

You are doing very well expressing your concerns. Since here in Greece many members do not have a clue about british politics I will forward you opinion to them.

I also asked from Anghela Ghadery who is a member of Athens DSC and also a member of UK PNC to express her view. It may be useful.

Apostolos has asked me to write about this to give some guidance for Athens DSC members to decide how they vote.

So Theresa May called a General Election very unexpectedly, having said categorically that she would not, and with very little time for campaigning, clearly in the belief that she would win with a large majority and
little opposition while she negotiates Brexit. However, it now looks as if she has underestimated Jeremy Corbyn.

DiEM U.K. had to decide how they should respond to the election campaign and create a strategy.

Firstly we created a Provisional National Committee (PNC) (by self nomination temporarily due to the urgency of the situation). It was agreed on Yianis’s suggestion at a meeting of the committee in London on 6th May
that we should make a list of Members of Parliament (MPs) who we judged to fit with exactly or to some degree, with DiEM’s principles.

Committee members have decided on criteria and also made a table showing the best fit of each of the UK’s main parties with DiEM principles before nominating Possible MPs for our list. The list is now complete with
a short commentary on each MP to explain why he or she has been chosen.

We now want DiEM to vote to approve our list before we email each MP to tell them that we have chosen them as a member of our ‘dream team’. We will also of course go to the mainstream media with our list.

What is our purpose?

1) to lobby MPs from across several parties

2) to take the opportunity publicise DIEM25 and what it represents

We have to remember two issues particular to the U.K. I think:

1) The difficulty of deciding on DiEM’s role when the UK is planning to leave the EU

2) To most DiEM U.K. members, (it seems to me), the idea of DiEM25 becoming a party is not at all welcome. Most U.K. members are supportive of DiEM because it is not a party!

My opinion?

1) As we find ourselves in this position less than two weeks away from the election, I think this list is a very good way of making DiEM25 known more widely, and makes a helpful move towards MPs seeing cross party common
progressive views and thus going some way towards eroding the old party entrenched positions.

2) Had there been much more time, I would have liked to see DiEM25 taking the opportunity to go to the ballot box in the U.K. because

a. Brexit hasn’t actually happened yet and there are still some who believe it never will

b. I believe that DiEM could fill that gap between neoliberalism and nationalism more than anywhere in the U.K. as I see people clinging to one of these camps now but with uncertainty because they haven’t heard of any
other way. I believe Brexit could be a golden opportunity for DiEM to lead U.K. Citizens back to where a majority want to remain and get to work on restructuring the EU.

3) Any hope of 2) above would be contingent on making a pan-European narrative strong enough to appeal to the very insular British but this could be the time when our 'special relationship’ with the US is regarded less
highly thanks to Trump.

4) Any hope of 2) or 3) above would be contingent on DiEM25 U.K. members approving the movement’s progression to a party!

For now, I would recommend Athens DSC to vote for this strategy and so help DiEM’s profile in the U.K. Once the election is over, we will return to working on our U.K.New Deal and our position and strategy for Brexit
negotiations.

Thank you!

Regards,

Apostolos Gogakos

layout and design collaboration

Hi,

it would be very useful to have some cooperation with DSC's "propaganda"-material, i.e. logos, graphics, icons, design, layout, ... even bi-, multilingual texts.

Is there anybody interested in this? How do you produce your webdesign, leaflets, ... ?

I just started with Adobe InDesing and Illustrator.

Here are my first artworks (see the jpg's attached)

DiEM25 action to support the "European Citizens' Initiative: Ban glyphosate and protect people and the environment from toxic pesticides"

Dear
friends,

I think
time has come for DiEM25 to take serious action to support the European Citizens' Initiative: Ban
glyphosate and protect people and the environment from toxic pesticides!

This is exactly
what DiEM25 should promote at the European level with the support of all the
DSCs!

Here you can find the link to the ECI:

https://act.wemove.eu/campaigns/ice-glyphosate-fr

https://stopglyphosate.org/fr/

DiEM25
could play a major role in this Initiative calling on the European Commission
to propose to member states a ban on glyphosate, to reform the pesticide
approval procedure, and to set EU-wide mandatory reduction targets for
pesticide use.

This
crucial campaign should be our first “environmental” pan European campaign!

The members
of our DSC in Cagliari are ready to fight!

I look
forward to hearing from you soon

Best

DiEM25 and the nuclear ban at th United Nations

G7 meeting in Taormina at the end of may has fostered the mainstream vision of a global "growth" system, made possible thru war as economic media of social control. Sicily is part of this system, with Sigonella Augusta Birgi bases and Niscemi's electronic warfare MUOS, all essential parts of US and NATO military interventions in north Africa and Middle East.

Nonviolent struggles of great figures like Danilo Dolci and Pio La Torre, compassion for thousands of migrants drowned in the sea south of Sicily, and the won battle against Comiso' euromissiles in the '80s, can give us a cultural background for a real alternative to be.

Many events took place in the Island, before and during G7. After it, the most significant will be the 1st of July, a manifestation that will confirm popular opposition to Mobile User Objective System, an electromagnetically polluting apparatus, wich serves as driving media for bombing by drones, the world around. We will bike ride from Comiso' civil airport to the illegal MUOS warfare in Niscemi, to build a symbolic link between the victorious struggle for peace of European people in the 80s - against cruise and pershing nuclear missiles - and an advocated victory on the illegally built Mobile User Objective System today.

The european DiEM25 DSCs can maybe mobilize themselves, together with Comiso-Niscemi protesters ? Every town and country has his own warfare to carry about. A collective nonviolent activity spread in Europe, can prevent tragedies and strenghten will for peace ?

After G7, G20 meeting in Hamburg will take place, the same days of the UN Assembly where a new Treaty, to definitely ban the nuclear bombs from the World, will be signed.

Can we as DiEMers start a global initiative of peace during G20 Alternative Summit, counteracting State chiefs behavior versus Syria, Libya, Yemen and whatelse, and strongly ask for a real, effective ban Treaty, to save humanity from a nuclear war ?

Discussing the party issue & more

Dear all,

As part of a broader effort to extend the functions of the Members Area, we have just added two new things:

  • A log of past and current Validating Council votes, which you can access at https://internal.diem25.org/vc/vote_log

  • A video filmed at the last CC teleconference where we discuss the Berlin aftermath / party issue at length - find it at https://internal.diem25.org/meeting_summaries . We decided to make this the first "CC answering questions" video because so many people in DiEM25 are presently discussing the topic. As this first discussion got much longer than intended, we have not yet been able to film discussions of the other questions that some of you sent in, but do keep sending us topics that you feel would interest a lot of people. We are also still looking for a user-friendly platform to have regular chats with CC members, as you recall the first platform was quite a disaster, so if you have other recommendations, please let us know.

The next step in the 'party' discussion will probably be a vote between the four different models of involvement in the European elections which have been suggested. I'll summarize them by the kind of voting recommendation that might emerge:

1) "Vote party X - they come close to our ideas for Europe" (like the all-member votes on Zagreb or France)
2) "If you're in Poland, vote party X. If you're in Spain, vote party Y - they will form a DiEM25-friendly subgroup in the European parliament"
3) "If you're in France, there are 5 candidates running on a 'Party X - DiEM25' list, 10 candidates running for Party X who are unaffiliated with DiEM25, and 2 candidates running on a 'Party Y - DiEM25 list."

4) "If you're in Greece, vote DiEM25 The Party"

(Countries chosen at random ;-) )

For as long as DiEM25 remains a movement focusing foremost on realising its policies in whichever way possible, these models don't exclude each other, it is imaginable to do 1+2+3+4 at the same time, or just 1+2+3 (never run as a party, only have a group of DiEM25-friendly MEPs from other parties), or 2+4 (no recommendations, no common lists), or only type 1 (only make recommendations) as before, none, or any combination. This will be subject to a vote. Afterwards there will be votes on organizational questions (how to make it happen, relationship of DiEM25 to the new entities, if any) and on which model we should apply where. As per the CC letter after Berlin, please have a discussion in your DSC about this issue and send a summary of the DSC members' opinions to the CC by the end of July at the latest, but the earlier the better, since we may have to schedule the first vote earlier than expected.

Please forward this email to all DSC members. Do not post content from the Members Area (especially information about ongoing VC votes, CC meeting summaries or this particular video), in public places like Facebook, just tell people that they can go to the https://internal.diem25.org to see these.

Thank you and Carpe DiEM!

Elections for the Coordinating Collective

Dear all,

Just a quick heads-up: the CC has just decided that the first-ever internal elections (contesting 6 of the 12 Coordinating Collective seats) shall take place at the end of August, even though the Organising Principles would allow delaying them until September. The reason is that a lot of political events happen in September, including DiEM25's "Real State of the Union" event in Brussels, so it would be difficult to replace half the team in the middle of this. August tends to be very quiet, so it is perfect for the transition.

As per our Organising Principles, any member will be able to declare himself/herself a candidate, without needing endorsements. In the election, members will freely select 6 people from a long list of candidates, who will present themselves by text and video. The only voting constraint will be for gender balance.

We expect to publish a call for candidates by the end of this month, outlining what is expected of CC members. Please do NOT declare your candidacy before knowing the requirements of the job ;-) After a period of collecting candidacies, members will have several weeks to review the candidates on our website and to form an opinion.

Discussing the party issue & more

Dear all,

Since people asked: we have a lot of time still till 2019, and some of the options we may want to cooperate with may not even exist yet (e.g. that broad progressive German alliance Thomas talked about in the video), so we will take baby steps on this one and we will have plenty of discussions and votes beyond August... and even beyond December ;-) It's important to get this right. The CC does not expect to receive a huge paper from your discussions, only

1) a first glimpse of how DSC members feel about the various models of political involvement

2) whether they believe that there currently are local/national/European forces DiEM25 might support

You could do this in the form of a statistic:

10 like model 1, 0 are against.

7 like model 2, 3 are against. They see the advantages as ... and disadvantages as ...

5 like model 3, 4 are against, 1 undecided. Many are worried that... . There should be a condition that ...

For the local elections on November 10th, 3 members believe DiEM25 might support party X, while 2 believe DiEM25 should support party Y and 5 believe none of the existing parties/coalitions are close to DiEM25's ideas. For the national elections, ...

A request: please make sure that only DiEM25 members are privy to these discussions, and to any discussions about the contents of the Member Area or DSC Coordination Group. There is a reason we put these texts behind a login screen. As you know, only DiEM25 members can be DSC members. While many DSC meetings and DSC online discussion groups are open to people who are "just looking", please ensure that this kind of discussion only happens in closed meetings / closed groups - we would not want political party representatives to influence the discussions or journalists to write about them before we have found a common position.

Discussing the party issue & more

Dear Judith dear all,

In Athens1 DSC we discussed on the 12th of June 2017 in the diem25 offices (15 members);

0 members like model 1 "Vote party X"

0 members like model 2 "If you're in Poland, vote party X. If you're in Spain, vote party Y etc"

0 members like model 3 "If you're in France, there are 5 candidates running on a 'Party X etc"

9
members (majoriy) voted "If you're in Greece, vote DiEM25 The Party" but the reasoning behind them differs.

-Some
said because they think there is a huge political gap in the parliament right now that DIEM25 can fill.

-Others
said that they agree only if DIEM25 becomes a paneuropean party and not just national.

-Others
said that they agree only if the party is real democratic with revocable represantatives "liguid democracy", a collective one not around a leader, from base to top, spontaneous and self-organised, with synthesis on policy papers, (we stil do not have answers on why some proposals
we made are not concluded in the European New Deal), transparency, internal voting, (we have a non elected, non transparent PNC and communication coordinator right now), drawings and voting amongst members of the same country or community for
national or local internal elections, because it is not possible for example for an Irish to know about German PNC members, so as to decide his vote.

-And
others said they agree only if the party is based on some principles and defends the worker's and farmer's interests and also has concrete proposals not only for the rest pillars (trasparency, green policy, immigration, workers and european constitution) but
also for the healthcare and the education.

-Others
said that in order to become a party we have to expand first, make new dsc's, support other green and left movements so as to have a strong base because it is possible that we become a party and fail in the elections.

-Lastly,
referring to the alliances after we become a party some said that we do not need to ally with any other party, but some others said that we need to ally with other democratic parties or democratic parties that are against the memorandum of the troika and
more specifically "ANTARSYA" and "Plefsi Eleutherias" were two names which were heard.

5
members abstained/ did not know what to vote and

1
member voted against every option because he said that diem25 is and must stay a movement and not a political party or take part in the elections, and said that now is far away from its start, last year and that diem25 proposals for Greece are economy-technical
and have nothing to do with democracy.

I
hope I gave you an insight in Athens DSC. We are also preparing a common statement in Greek, I will send this also next week. Is there a different CC email that I should send it?

Discussing the party issue - DSC-vienna2

the party issue: how we discussed it in the DSC-Vienna2 group:

we where 3 people on that evening and we all agreed that DiEM becomming the

first truly european party is a good idea. and we support the idea.

as for the question if DiEM should participate in elections, we are also for

it. (if we DiEM meets the criteria in

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_political_party

DiEM would also get funded by the EU)..

in austria we had a few attempts for a left wing group for the EU:

2004 LINKE 0.8%

2009 KPÖ (austrian communists) 0.7% of votes

2014 Europa Anders 2.14% of votes

as we only have 18 seats in austria each seat would need about 5.5%. as the

previous attempts for a left wing candidacy where not that successfull i

would expect that most activists from the "europa anders" (communists,

pirates, independent, ..) would be happy to fight for the DiEM lable. (i

already talked to a few activists about this and they seem to like the

idea).

the only other party that, in its political direction somewhat compatible

with DiEM views are the austrian greens. (they had 3 mandates 14.5%)

while a DiEM candidacy would be seen as a competition, i would expect that

DiEM would attract different voters as well and thus, in the end strengthen

the left).

in larger countries e.g. germany with 99 seats an additional candidacy of

DiEM would (even against "Die Linke") only strengthen the left by catering

to slightly different voter preferences..
