Should we accept the San Diego Bid

I think it is a great proposal and would be happy to proceed.
I think it is trying something new, and has the potential to turn into a huge event with quite a different profile for attendees and sponsorship. I would really like to see us give this a go.
I have reached out to the board private list to let them know about the plans taking shape and the necessity to act as a financial backstop if required, and was met with a positive response.

It is a solid good and energetic proposal. Only thing is the large amount of committee members; having a manageable amount of 7-9 max subcommittee ‘heads’, is my advice.

Energetic is well phrased :)
Casting a wider net is a sensible community building approach, trusting a "head" to emerge from each group (such as "gov committee" or "osm committee"). I think that three are enough groups that it should even out.

FYI - I am helping the SD team with getting things together and started with the Delaney PCO. That said, I like the energy of the proposal and think that there is a lot of good stuff in there. I need to read through it again, but I think there are a few things I would recommend to make things more manageable.

I think that recommendations are fine, but do not need to get in the way of accepting the proposal.

Would like to follow up on Rob's comment on acting with haste given the time frame. It looks like both Guido and myself have offered some copy editing (removing duplicate phrases and such like).
With respect to the content of the proposal - it seems committee members have advice to offer, but no down checks.
(Having advice to offer may just be good invitation to join the organizing committee once it is underway)

On re-read, I am beginning to feel like the proposal may be taking on too much and will loose its focus. This conference cannot be all things to all people. I am concerned.

The way I figure it is that there are a number of activities or focus groups in the proposal, even if not all are successful it should be a good / viable event.
The good news is that each activity has a large number of interested parties associated with it. Marc provided the feedback that it would be better if there was an identified point person taking responsibility. I think that will come out in the wash as the groups get organized (or do not get organized)

I believe the San Diego team's bid is solid, and is the most complete vision I've seen for how FOSS4G NA 2019 will be a great continuation of the conference series. I also think accepting the proposal with haste is important for allowing for the type of planning required to make a conference happen in the timeframe the San Diego team has. I would advocate for accepting the San Diego bid.
