That an ELF Communications Plan be evolved as a priority

An emerging issue with the ELF project appears to be uncontrolled communications along an array of platforms. I propose that ELF as an organisation would benefit from a Communications Plan outlining key messages & guidelines for appropriate communications with the aim of projecting a unified public voice (generic summary template attached for member consideration).
The Communications Plan will include project promotional and awareness raising strategies along with a timeframe aligning with the overall project. I further propose that a Communications Officer Role description be developed in time for the next ELF Meeting.
Examples of ELF Communications Officer responsibilities:
1) Develop, support and promote ELF goals, including message development, social media content creation and media outreach
2) Develop and disseminate public relations materials that increase our visibility among stakeholders and lawmakers
3) Build and maintain relationships with journalists, bloggers, investors and other audiences that will help advance our work
4) Identify target audiences and create strategies to effectively engage them
5) Ensure digital marketing content aligns with ELF identity and message, and assist with marketing campaigns as needed
6) Work closely with leaders to develop and strengthen ELF member engagement activities

Great Sun I think you can do a good job and will seek group feedback on public communications like we agreed in the constitution. Well done!

Appreciated that you are stepping forward Sun. Prior to engaging externally, ELF could document its key messages (& timelines) to various audiences. This will be the basis for the Communications Plan. This Plan should match the other plans and form part of the Business Case. These will be useful if we ever apply for a grant too.

I think this is a fantastic idea! I'd like to see it get to a place where it's so well defined that when the Communications Officer is away or busy others can step in and do the job just as competently (:

is it time to put a proposal to vote on the Sun takes on the roll of public officer for ELF?

I think Sun would be a fine front man/ spokesperson however this is just part of a Communications Plan. managing all comms would be a big role for one person already doing other things. The Communications Plan will include a timeline and schedule for strategically aligned communications( eg media releases with significant events). These will come into effect in line with project progress. I can start drafting the Communications Plan for ELF Board review. Can we add this as an items ELF vote pls? I’ll try to add it but if I can’t, this is just a heads up.

Hi All, please review the attached DRAFT_ELF Communications Plan. I am sure I haven't thought of everything but at least it gets the ball rolling. Please add to it. I have also uploaded it to the ELF folder in google drive. This little Plan will form the basis for a larger Communications Strategy and will be related to the Project Plan and Risk Management Plan and Risk Register (templates & examples attached).

I can take on most of the responsibilities related to engaging, educating and exciting public and investors. Just completed a professional speaking course and will soon have a bunch of frequently updated templates for Facebook marketing.
Happy if someone else feels they can do a better job.
Not so keen to take on PR regarding details of legislation as the details pull me out of my flow.
