Using Loomio (and demonstrating it at an OpenHack)

Would it help people understand loomio better if I give a demonstration on it at a Code for Miami meeting? For me, I work better in a collaborative environment, or at least know what other folks have opinions on and to make sure I'm not on a totally wrong path when I choose something.

I'll go ahead and set up a presentation on loomio for the February 13 OpenHack meeting, if no one objects.

I think it has a lot of potential in terms of how brigade members feel about group decisions; a LOT of this would be directed to leadership and support staff but I feel this can be useful for other folks as well. Let me know your thoughts.

I agree for matters that warrant a more formal review process, though I prefer to have topics raised and discussed at CfM Meetups.

I think this is a great way to get a greater cross-section of CFM to vote on a number of topics.

Okay. I was going to schedule it for February 6th but realized I have to give a presentation to the Digital Divide Bootcamp. Maybe set it for February 13th?

Provide a "Civic Hacking 101 Crash Course" for new comers to teach them what open data is and why it is helpful, go over some roles in civic hacking like advocacy, storytelling and coding, and show them some successful civic hacking projects, for instance, Human Utility.

@juleskramer brought up an excellent point: think if there is an actual group decision that needs to be made we should use loomio but it shouldn't be used for things the committees can vote on internally, otherwise it will take a week to make every decision. slack has a polling plugin we can use to make snap decisions during meetings also.
