[post - published] Statement after the 12/09 vote in the EU Parliament on Copyright

RVE Renaud Van Eeckhout Public Seen by 20

Today's vote was lost, and I wanted to have a reaction on that. I didn't want to make one more article about why we should have voted against, etc, this has been done by many people already and... they have not been heard.

So the draft I made is a probably more accusing than our previous statements, and the press is pointed at clearly. We cannot have a healthy debate without a press doing their job, and they didn't do it. Who is going to say it, if not us, we who were insulted by them?
So I wanted to take the opportunity to say that, and remind everyone that the fight is not lost, and even if today's vote had been a success, we would have had to keep on fighting no matter what.

Here the draft : https://pad.pirateparty.be/p/copyrightlaw-statement

We also have a wiki page for that (not sure you knew about it) : https://wiki.pirateparty.be/SaveYourInternet

Does the text need a translation to dutch? If so, I volunteer (& if so, please give me a sign when the text is ready)

I think it's too early yet to start the translation, many things could still be changed. But thank you already for your contribution!

To illustrate the article, we need a good image. As we talk about copyright, nothing better than a meme.

Any idea for a caption? Something like "When you have no idea what you're doing, but you follow the lobby anyway" for example

Why not just the one you posted on fedi?

The one with "The European Parliament just killed the internet" ?

I think it's an exaggeration => it hasn't happened yet (but will in 2019), it's not "the internet" but the internet in Europe, and it doesn't kill it but affects it (very) badly. I believe talking about "killed the internet" doesn't help us because it's very easy to demonstrate it's wrong.

Trying to create a meme and make it go viral, so you can use it in an article

Is that what they call Astroturfing :sunglasses:
