What is the status of the Dutch translation and how can I help?

Hi everyone,

I am completely new to this process, so perhaps I'm asking the wrong question in the wrong place; apologies in advance for that:).

I have been using Loomio for a while now and I must say I really, really like it. I would love to contribute to it, and since I'm not a developer, the most obvious contribution I can probably make is a good translation of at least the Loomio client in my native language, Dutch.

So I looked up the way the translation process works, signed up for Transifex and wanted to get started, but immediately noticed that most of the work for the Loomio client had already been done.

So my question, I guess, is: how much of the translation must be completed before you implement it in Loomio?

I also noticed that none of the Dutch translations have been reviewed. Is that perhaps the reason the translation has not yet been implemented?

Would love to hear from you!

All the best,

Maarten Pelgrim

Hi @Maarten Pelgrim, thank you for getting in touch. We only include translations if they're maintained and manage to stay close to 100% translated.

The server resource is sitting at 60%, which is all the emails and such. The experience of receiving content in a big mix of translated and not translated is much worse (I'm told) that that of just receiving English.

So, it's just marvelous that you want to contribute. If you can bring server and client close to 100% then I'll enable dutch, happily. And if you're happy to translate a handful of strings a month to keep it current, that would be just wonderful.

We have never had enough support to carry out a review process, and so have not used that component of transifex before. Just having someone who really knows the app, and commits to keeping it translated is plenty good enough at this stage.

This is a perfectly good place to ask questions, feel free to mention me for support.

Hi @Rob Guthrie, thanks for your answer. I noticed that since I had posted my question here somebody had actually done the work of translating the server section, so I can now use Loomio in Dutch, which is great.

I also noticed that the marketing section has not been translated yet. I am more than happy to contribute to that as well as keeping it up date by checking it every now and then. Is there perhaps a way that I can get notified when there are new strings waiting for translation?

Oh, that would be so great. You need to watch the project to be notified about updates: https://docs.transifex.com/tracking/notifications#section-watch-notifications

Glad to help:). I'm finished with it, except for a few strings that are a little harder than the rest. The slogan (everybody heard, cares, cared for etc.) for example, I'm not quite sure whether its suitable for translation.
