Expanding the profile page

On an individual's profile could there be an area for people to give a brief introduction to themselves or to write a short bio.

In this community a few of us more recent members have introduced ourselves in the introductions area, but we know very little about the other X number of members.

I would help to put some context to some of the discussions if we knew a little about the people making comments.

Nice. The simplest thing we can do is put an introduction field on the user. Editable from your user settings page and visible on your profile page. (you can see the profile page by click on a username)

Would that do the trick?

Sounds great to me. Publicly viewable?

@robertguthrie Yes I think that would do the trick.

@jonlemmon what is your definition of publicly viewable? I certainly would recommend that it be viewable to group members, I would though recommend giving people the option if they want it viewable to the general public.

@neilmorris - I like the idea. Better to be able to click and find info if provided for specific user instead of going through a thread of introductions area where some of the users might not be active any more.

@robertguthrie I think this could go together with https://www.loomio.org/discussions/5080. Maybe a check box next to email field and Introduction field saying 'Visible to all' or something.

We could also think about what is that could be important/interesting for us to know about other members. Location, nationality, languages, skills? Something to give a tip about what we want to know or just any free format for now?

I would think a single field, publically viewable, with free-form content, would be a good place to start.

Privacy control seems like an obvious next step. Makes me think it would be useful to develop some privacy iconography, to convey 'accessible to all', 'accessible to group members', 'private', etc.

Also while we're expanding the profile page, I want to show a list of groups I am a member of.

@richarddbartlett I really like the idea of the privacy iconography.

A clarification of the what is publicly viewable would be useful - see my earlier comment.

Some thought may need to go into the viability settings for the list of groups given some groups are private - could the settings be done so that only people viewing with the rights to see something can see it in the list?
