Proposal on The TPP for Online PPI GA 29th March

AR Andrew Reitemeyer Public Seen by 192

May the General Assembly of the Pirate Parties International decide the
following declaration:

The Assembly of Members of Pirate Parties International

  • Strictly oppose TTIP
  • Support the protest movement all over the world
  • Urge the European Parliament and both houses of the U.S. Congress not to consent to TTIP
  • Call for ex-ante and ex-post human rights impact assessments to be conducted for every trade agreement.

I agree with the above, but TTIP schould be replaced by TTIP and TPP.

I am not sure this applies to us - not being a party to the negotiations

Agreed. I believe we should abstain from such a proposal.

Sorry, I believe my comment was not comprehensive and hardly understandable.

I believe that TTIP and TPP are basically the same thing, only with different countries involved. It's hard to proove as both are secret. But what we know about TTIP and TPP through leaks as well as official comments, both are very comparable in the sense that those countries that are threatened by the TTIP are facing the same threats as those countries that are threatened by the TPP.

That's why you are completely right that agreeing with the above proposal whithout mentioning the TPP while being a country involved in TPP negoatiations would be completely silly.

Hence my suggestion to extend the above proposal to include the TPP alongside the TTIP, so that the proper proposal could look like this:

The Assembly of Members of Pirate Parties International

  • Strictly oppose TTIP and TPP
  • Support the protest movement all over the world
  • Urge tboth houses of the U.S. Congress not to consent to TTIP and TPP
  • Urge the European Parliament not to consent to TTIP
  • Call for ex-ante and ex-post human rights impact assessments to be conducted for every trade agreement.

Should the PPNZ ask the PPI members to agree to the following in favour of the similar proposal of PPDE?

May the General Assembly of the Pirate Parties International decide the
following declaration:

The Assembly of Members of Pirate Parties International

  • Strictly oppose TTIP and TPP
  • Support the protest movement all over the world
  • Urge the both houses of the U.S. Congress not to consent to TTIP nor TPP
  • Urge the European Parliament not to consent to TTIP
  • Call for ex-ante and ex-post human rights impact assessments to be conducted for every trade agreement.

I'd support a more inclusive wording on governmental urging:

Urge relevant legislative bodies including but not limited to both houses of the U.S. Congress, and the European Parliament not to consent to TTIP nor TPP as applicable.

This is symptomatic of what is happening with PPI. PPI is very Eurocentric and dominated by the PPDE. There is a PPEU which should be dealing with TTIP but it has been hamstringed and Amelia Andersdotter has resigned from the chair in frustration.
The TPP is not on their radar and any action taken in the form of lobbying would not include it.

Wikileaks has published secret chapters of the TPP which are really, really scary:
