Loomio

Invited guests (non-CoTech members) for Wortley Hall

A thread for people to suggest non-CoTech members for invites to Wortley Hall. At 8 September planning meeting it was agreed that anyone who does not work for a tech worker co-op could only be invited by agreement on Loomio. If no-one gets agreed here then everyone at the event will work for a uk-based tech worker co-op.

Unless otherwise stated, the agreement is to invite the specified person/organisation but not to subsidise their ticket - they pay the same price as other attendees.

makes tons of sense to talk to him at Wortley Hall

If the main purpose of the event is "to make CoTech better" then bring in more members would seem like one way to do that. If, by Ed coming, we can get clarity on Green Net's application, then that sounds like a good thing.

As I recall GreenNet were whisker-close to being eligible for membership, so should definitely be at the event. At least one of the them and ideally more IMHO.

Dave Boyle of Community Shares

At some point, either Co-Tech or some of the coops involved might need to raise some money. I think Dave would be a good person to start exploring that with.

Would it be worth inviting The News Co-op, even if just for a day trip (they are based in Manchester), to see if they would like to write an article about CoTech?

(I haven't spoken to them about this but Webarchitects is a member of their co-op and they are a member of our co-op and we host their servers.)

Would Co-operatives UK be interested in anyone attending? I'd support John Atherton attending on their behalf, if he were able, with a view to keeping them in the loop and ensuring we co-operative with them where possible.

Autonomic are not yet legally established but are in the process or sorting this out.

Mills and/or Sinx (Fouders of Ustwo)

The Founders of Ustwo are committed to never selling their agency and are very supportive of what we're trying to do. Maybe we can convince them to join us :)

I don't know enough about them to be able to make a decision so abstaining for now

Maybe they are interested. I'm highly sceptical given my brief experience of doing business with Mills. Either way, inviting them is not the way to get them in

Ellie Hale from CAST

The Centre for Accellertated Social Technology is a charity (rather than a co-op) but is doing a great job of developing the sector and is very supportive of CoTech.

If space is short - which is what seems to be the case - priority should go to member co-ops rather than people doing related good stuff

Matt Haworth or Jo Wolfe from Reason Digital

proposal by Harry "Outlandish" Robbins Closed Fri 13 Oct 2017 3:14PM

Reason Digital is interested in potentially becoming a co-op and are probably the leading example of a social enterprise that we'd like to win over to a co-operative model.

Yes, I know the Reason people

Are we in danger of agreeing to so many non-CoTech people attending that there might not being enough places at Wortley Hall for everybody? I don't know how the figures stack up and would be happy to vote yes on all the suggestions if there wasn't an issue of space...

Aaron HirtensteinMon 9 Oct 2017 2:43PM

I think we have some room, based on the interest form, if most people are happy to share. We are aiming to send out the booking form today, I think, so get your fingers on buzzers!

Harry "Outlandish" RobbinsMon 9 Oct 2017 2:50PM

Indeed. There are also hotels nearby so we could put the guests up in one of them and get them taxis. The voting is just "are we, in principle, happy for them to come". We've already agreed members get priority, at least some Outlandish people are happy to bunk up, and we'll get some firmed up numbers before inviting the guests.

Ed Saperia from Newspeak House

Newspeak House (https://www.nwspk.com/) is a great place that brings together progressive political technology projects and movements. Ed has been a great supporter of CoTech and our projects, and I feel he would be a great asset. We're also sure there are enough rooms now.

John Atherton - Co-ops UK - day ticket

proposal by Harry "Outlandish" Robbins Closed Tue 14 Nov 2017 2:21PM

John has been a great supporter and promoter of CoTech and would like to come for the day. I think it would be great for him to have more of an insight into what we're doing.
