How to discuss The Quarry

R Raita Public Seen by 87

Should we discuss the book on a chapter-by-chapter basis or only after we've finished the whole book?

Do you want to discuss the book gradually? Closed Sat 31 Jan 2015 9:04PM

Agree means you want to discuss the book in parts (regardless of how long those are).

Abstain means you're happy with whatever.

Disagree means you would rather not do it this way, but you're willing to negotiate some kind of resolution.

Block means you definitely don't want to discuss the book this way and only want to discuss it after we're read the whole book.

I think we'll get more in-depth discussion this way

I do! It'll be easier to discuss in chunks, I think, as well as fun to discover the evolution of our thinking as we progress together. There are 7 chapters with an average of 46 pages each (plus a short 5-page Chapter 8). An easy 7-week read, IMHO

I think I'd prefer going whole hog on this, read the whole thing and then discuss, but I'll be happy to defer to the group!

I'd really rather just read the whole thing, then talk after. But not too fussed.

Read fast, re-read critically. Mostly because it will force me to analyse it more carefully.
I believe I read books like most people drive cars. "Oh we're here."
If it's a really good book, I'm not even aware of turning the pages.

I'm actually indifferent, but I already posted that I'm OK with it in the thread :)

I agree, slower is better!

I'll probably end up reading ahead, like Mindysan, but I agree with Donald that the development of discussion and our growing understanding as we read further and further into the book will make for a more dynamic thread than if we all finish it first.

I do kinda like the idea of 'discovering' it with y'all though. Hmm.
