Building a 'Movement of Movements' based upon the broad platform of 'Global Solidarity for Local Self Determination'

KD Katharine Dawn Public Seen by 76

The objective of this thread (or Vital Conversation) is to agree upon a manifesto, a statement of global solidarity, a new social, political and territorial agreement between the place-based communities of the world, that would

– empower each local community in mutual recognition and support of each other’s rights of self determination and territorial sovereignty

– inspire the people everywhere to act now in a grassroots commitment to meeting the sustainability challenge

– effectively initiate the process of building a new, decentralized, genuinely democratic global system

Collaboratively hone, improve upon and collectively endorse the Earth Holocracy Proposal's 'Statement of Global Solidarity for Local Self Determination' Closed Wed 30 Dec 2020 10:03PM

The invitation here is for Participants to help hone, revise, condense and improve upon the Earth Holocracy Proposal's key instrument for building a 'movement of movements' aimed at mutually supporting and empowering Local Communities and Independence Movements worldwide: the proposal's 'Statement of Global Solidarity for Local Self Determination'. This statement is meant to serve as a template for a new social contract between the Local Communities of the world, whereby the membership of Local Communities everywhere pledge their commitment 1) to support each other as Local Communities - each standing up to claim and exercise their right of Local Self Determination; and 2) to cooperatively build a new, decentralized system of participatory democracy from the grassroots. For more information, please see http://www.earth-holocracy.world/the-proposal/.

Many sustainability and 'real democracy' advocates and movements worldwide recognize that the root cause of the economic, environmental and social justice crises of our day is the centralization of power and wealth in the hands of the .001% - that is, the heads of International Financial Institutions [IFIs], the so-called 'neo-liberal hegemony' which effectively controls all sectors of the globalized politico-economy. Many also agree (and call for) the resolution of these crises through socio-politico-economic decentralization. There are countless sub-national movements worldwide for Independence, Sovereignty, Self Determination, and Local Self Governance. There are brave movements championing Regional Autonomy (eg, the Democratic Confederalism of the Kurdish Revolution; the Zapatistas of Mexico; the Catalonian, Basque, Irish and many other Independence Movements). But, as 'Social Movements for an Alternative Asia' [SMAA] point out in their Economy for Life in our Earth Community: "Local Democracy needs to be complemented with global democracy". By customizing and endorsing the Earth Holocracy Proposal's Local Community Declaration of Rights, Local Communities claim their right (as per the UN International Bill of Rights, and as distinct place-based Peoples) to Self Determination. But for Local Communities to freely exercise their right to look after their own long-term well-being - freely directing their own social, economic, cultural, political and civil development; and freely managing their own natural, financial and infrastructural commons (that is, key resources for the flourishing of their collective life) - they MUST be supported by a global movement of movements dedicated to establishing a decentralized participatory democracy built from the grassroots, growing in collective strength, transforming the international arena.
