Informal Auckland Monthly Meetup - February
Due to the meeting going pretty well we decided that we are going to have a monthly meetup on the last Saturday of every month. Due to Esquires being closed due to construction we are holding it at the Coffee Club (Customs Street) http://www.thecoffeeclub.co.nz/store-locator/the-coffee-club-customs-street/
The time is yet to be decided but might be later in the day so potentially about 5pm, but will depend entirely on what time best suits the majority of people.
Also it's an informal meeting so feel free to wear whatever you like. Shout out to Daymond!
Grant Keinzley Mon 30 Jan 2017 6:55AM
Roger that :)
Martyn Mon 30 Jan 2017 10:06AM
Kudos to you @colinsmith! Looking forward to our next meeting. Are we going to bring people that are interested in the Internet Party but not actual members to meeting or just focus on keeping it members only?
I've got at least one person interested in joining up but I'm not sure whether to invite him before he's a member or get him signed up and paid first before bringing him along. Suggestions are appreciated!
Grant Keinzley Tue 31 Jan 2017 10:02AM
The rules we had before is that meetups are open to all. However as we haven't officially started campaigning I think Colin can decide how he would like the meetups run.

Colin Smith Tue 31 Jan 2017 6:25AM
Hmmm, something has changed with the Meetup site. It took ages to actual find where to generate a meeting and now it is telling me that it will not post to the group unless there are two other people have rsvp-ed. (How can people rsvp unless it is posted to the group). Strange behavior!
Anyway, can someone check from there end to see if they can actually see the next meeting scheduled for the last Saturday in Feb. (My user name gives me the admin interface not the public one)

Colin Smith Wed 1 Feb 2017 4:52AM
For the time being I would like to keep the meet up at a personal level. That does not mean that we can not talk shop if the subject comes up. That way we can bring friends along and they can get to meet the people and get their measure. I feel it is a little harder to berate someone’s post on Loomio for example if you have actually met them. Having met them you would be more likely to give them some slack or have a better understanding why the feel the way they do.
One thing that might be help is that there is one person (Normally a member) at the meeting that -
1. Take notes/very informal minutes on topics (If applicable) – The whole meeting could end up discussing the latest cat videos and personally to me this would not matter, it is the interaction that I think we should foster.
2. If people have certain views or ideas these can/ should be discussed then Said person encourages them to post on Loomio.
3. Said person has the right to veto certain topics of conversation. My thoughts hear are solely around someone trying to steel the meeting to solely push there agenda. That type of activity should be kept to Loomio.
4. Topics of conversation could/should be suggested from above. Apart from the informal minutes any suggestions generated should be taken to Loomio.
In Rugby terms – Loomio is where the game is played and you take your hard knocks there! Meet ups are for the supporters – no tackles or knocks just light hearted name calling the referee.

Excellent plan @colinsmith I will entrust greater Auckland's meetups to your care and later today will set up that meetup page on facebook.

Adele Etheridge Thu 2 Feb 2017 5:38AM
Hey not sure I can make the meet ups as I am a contractor and work crazy hours but will make a contribution here..do we have the same candidates this time round?

Colin Smith Thu 2 Feb 2017 7:13AM
Greetings Adele,
The meetups can be scheduled for any time. I am attempting to have a regular schedule of the last Saturday of every month, but that does not mean it would be the only time.
If you know you are going to be free at a particular time and post it here - let’s see who we can pull together for a meeting. I imagine there will be lots more as we approach the election.
As to candidates, it is my understanding that there is currently investigation taking place internally as to who from last time would like to run again. From that point we can start looking to see any one new that might like to take a step into the limelight.
Grant Keinzley Thu 2 Feb 2017 11:24PM
Hi all I have put up a facebook page for Auckland's meetups. In fb search (all caps): INTERNET PARTY - AUCKLAND
Martyn Fri 3 Feb 2017 9:53AM
Hi @adeleetheridge check out the thread here - https://www.loomio.org/d/1g6sGqHD/electoral-candidates
Currently @daymondgoulderhorobin and myself have put ourselves forward as candidates for the Pakuranga and Botany electorates respectively. There is still plenty of time if you are interested in pursuing a candidacy or wish to nominate somebody else?
@colinsmith, @daymondgoulderhorobin, @colinengland head to Facebook and add Grant to be added to the Auckland group. @grantkeinzley I would suggest making Colin Smith a mod on the group so that he can add people and create Events on the page. I'm going to start adding people that I know to the group.
Grant Keinzley Fri 3 Feb 2017 9:55AM
Just waiting on Colin to confirm friend request so he can be made admin of the Auckland group
Martyn Fri 3 Feb 2017 10:08AM
Link to page - Auckland Group

Internet Party 2017
These are all of the current Public Facebook Group pages. Feel free to join up!

Jo Booth Sun 5 Feb 2017 9:16AM
There's also a 'Community' Friends of The Internet Party and a hashtag for gatherings of #InternetPartyPeople
Grant Keinzley Sun 5 Feb 2017 6:24PM
There's a tonne of party groups in facebook. I know as I am still trying to get the admin rights to some of them. However not all are useful here. Once I've got facebook all sorted (soon) I'll be posting a page with all of those links so people can hook in to the group/s that most fit their bill.
Tks for bringing that one up Jo I didn't know of that one's existence :)
Grant Keinzley Wed 8 Feb 2017 10:57PM
@colinsmith Hey Colin just got a question in from Josh Rich @joshrich asking if the next Ak meetup wll be on the 25th this month. Tks

Colin Smith Sun 12 Feb 2017 3:25AM
I have posted on the meetup.com that the next meeting will be on the 25th, current meeting time is 5pm.
The site is showing that I am currently the only one attending, but I am sure that it will change as we get closer to the date and people know there schedules better.
Grant Keinzley Mon 13 Feb 2017 2:52AM
cool on that but I think you'd get better coverage posting in the facebook group "INTERNET PARTY - AUCKLAND" and then I can repost that in our other groups.
Stuff being campaign materials; flags, tee's, fliers, and other stuff from last election.
Grant Keinzley Thu 9 Feb 2017 9:10PM
@fredlook @colinsmith @joshrich @jobooth @martyn
We have some campaign assets, flags, tee's fliers, etc for Auckland's meetups and other regions' meetups when they are ready to launch. We need someone to pick these up and keep them for use at the Ak meetups. Problem is they need to be picked up this weekend as where they are being stored is no longer available to the party. Anyone volunteering to do this please email the exec @chrisyong cy@internet.org.nz to get the details. Thanks
Martyn Thu 9 Feb 2017 9:23PM
@grantkeinzley I will put my hand up and grab this stuff. I will store it at my place until a permanent place is found for it.
Grant Keinzley Thu 9 Feb 2017 9:25PM
awesome thanks buddy. flick an email to Chris (at the address above) he'll be happy to co-ordinte that with you. From the party; thanks again :) :) :)
Martyn Thu 9 Feb 2017 9:31PM
Done, now just waiting for a reply and we'll go from there.
Martyn Sat 11 Feb 2017 6:28AM
Hey @grantkeinzley @fredlook @colinsmith I have the Campaign Asset stuff which I picked up from Chris Yong @chrisyong.
@colinsmith do you want to pick up this stuff Colin or shall I bring it to the next meeting?

Colin Smith Sun 12 Feb 2017 3:19AM
What exactly are we talking about when referring to "Stuff".

Colin Smith Mon 13 Feb 2017 6:29AM
Ok.
How much space will I require 1mᶟ or a warehouse?
Grant Keinzley Mon 13 Feb 2017 10:33AM
@martyn
Martyn Thu 16 Feb 2017 6:20AM
@colinsmith all the stuff fits in the back seat of my wifes SUV. If you want I can take a photo of the stuff and send it to your email account.
@grantkeinzley you know those InternetMana tshirts from the last election are what I would call a collectors item. Maybe we should raffle them off to get some funds for the Party?
Grant Keinzley Thu 16 Feb 2017 7:35AM
hey not a bad idea :) keep one for yourself too for the effort you've put in :)
@fredlook can we let @martyn raffle these off on the condition he donates proceeds back to party?

Colin Smith Tue 21 Feb 2017 9:17AM
I have somewhere to store those items. Just need a time and place to pick them up.
Martyn Wed 22 Feb 2017 7:21AM
@colinsmith lets meet on Saturday and organise a pick up time. Have you created a Facebook event on the IP Auckland Facebook Page Colin? Can you add me and the rest of the group please?
Martyn Fri 17 Feb 2017 8:23AM
@grantkeinzley I'm not good at organizing raffles, my preference would be that somebody else handle that side of things if possible. I'm happy to hold onto them for now and hand them over to @colinsmith if he is able to take them? Do we have a Party Fundraising Person?
Grant Keinzley Fri 17 Feb 2017 8:25AM
no we don't have anyone of fund raising. maybe someone here may like to volunteer for that ???
Martyn Fri 17 Feb 2017 8:50AM
@grantkeinzley @fredlook I will offer to be the Party Fundraising Person unless somebody with some actual experience puts their hand up for the role in which case I will step down.
What are the rules for fund raising? I need them to be clear and simple to understand so I don't get the Party or myself into trouble.
Grant Keinzley Fri 17 Feb 2017 8:53AM
Thanks @martyn As per rules I'll leave that one for @fredlook

Daymond Goulder-Horobin Mon 20 Feb 2017 10:19AM
Awesome, I'll leave the suit at home for this one.

Josh Rich Mon 20 Feb 2017 6:55PM
I'm planning to Drive up from Tauranga for the weekend.
Do we have a fb event for this?

Daymond Goulder-Horobin Mon 20 Feb 2017 9:33PM

Join this group, we are planning to have it on the 25th of Feb in Auckland
https://www.meetup.com/Supporters-of-the-Internet-Party/events/237306838/
meetup page

Colin Smith Wed 22 Feb 2017 9:12AM
I currently have the event posted on
Facebook “Internet Party – Auckland Group”
and
Meetup.com “https://www.meetup.com/Supporters-of-the-Internet-Party/”.
Is there another forum I am Missing?
Martyn Wed 22 Feb 2017 11:43AM
No but on the Facebook page you can actually create it as an Event which allows you to post all the information and acts as a notification to everybody in the group. People can post whether they are coming or not and anything you post in the Event will be communicated to everybody that has been invited.
When you go to the Facebook group page creating an Event is in the More tab.

Education Policy - Student Loan Living Cost extension Closed Wed 26 Apr 2017 1:03AM
EDIT: Moved from Party Leader to this section, was going to put in into education but its pretty old so I just put it here
I'm going to try bring some life to Loomio, feel free to rip this proposal to pieces
It is agreed that Tertiary education should be made free for at least the first three years (or until the student can complete a Bachelors for example in the case of a medical degree). The goal of this in my mind is to cause a cultural shift which will increase the overall academia level of New Zealand and increase the skill level of New Zealand overall, not so much reducing the individual cost in itself.
It is also agreed upon that a universal allowance regardless of parental income should be allowed for each student studying full time so that they can focus on there studies and not have to worry about working during study.
I believe that the current allowance level is adequate for a student living in a parental home provided they get the full amount. However a student living in a shared flat or on there own has no chance without finding a part-time job, for example in Auckland where the allowance literally only covers rent in its current state.
Therefore I am proposing a system in which on top of an allowance the student will be able to borrow money in the same way that it works now so that they have the option to solely focus of study even if they are living in alone or in a shared flat. The intuition is that the student can borrow the money they need now in order to further support their studies and can pay it back once they start working, however it is of direct benefit to them at the time of borrowing.
For Example:
Basic Student Universal Allowance per week: $200
Max Loan Living costs per week: $200 (as an example, could be made higher)
Student A decides that he does not need Living costs and will receive $200 as a benefit to support his studies. He does not incur any Student Loan debt since fees are subsidized.
Student B decides that he requires an additional $150 to assist with his Basic Living Costs. He therefore receives the $200 allowance plus and rather than getting a part time job alongside full-time study decides to opt in to borrowing an additional $150 totaling $350 cash in hand per week. $150 of that must be paid back when the student starts full time work, (assume zero interest).
Paying it back would work the same way as it does now i.e not all at once so they have a solid income once they start work. The key is encouraging the academic culture to thrive and I believe this is one way of invigorating focus and academic excellence by ensuring that money is not the main thing on their mind. Paying for student fees is great but this system in my opinion will make it even better
If you need me to I can always attach a fancy graph at a later point :sweat_s
Agree: Fantastic idea, will assert the focus of students to studying
Abstain: Not a bad idea but perhaps some more detail and research is needed
Disagree: It would be better to simply adjust the allowance so that it covers everything the student needs.
Block: Stuff free education, I'm not interested in you using my tax payer money to freeload students just so they can party all night

Agree this is a great idea - expanding the student allowances or equivalent to ease the burden on students.

Love it. An excellent expansion model of the free tertiary policy. Please all get in on this.

A student shouldn't have to borrow at all. If there's difficulty in housing then we should also provide that in the form of free student flats.
PS. This would have been better in it's own thread.

Daymond Goulder-Horobin Thu 23 Feb 2017 12:38AM
I reckon including proposals into meetup threads is not a bad idea so it gets people thinking, but I can always just move it to its own thread easily if it is too messy

Daymond Goulder-Horobin Fri 24 Feb 2017 7:19AM
Who's confirmed for coming tomorrow?

Colin Smith Fri 24 Feb 2017 8:55AM
Colin Smith (Myself) and Martyn Anderson so far and there appears to be at least one other according to Facebook

Daymond Goulder-Horobin Fri 24 Feb 2017 11:31PM
I'll put future proposals into their own threads, at the time I couldn't post to the education group so i decided to put it in the meeting group to have something to talk about at the meetings if needed.
Housing is definitely one of key reasons why students struggle to get by, the allowance would generally pay for quite a bit of it but there wouldn't be any left for food, utilities etc. Subsidizing housing is something to consider so it doesn't get in the way could work, provided we can budget for it.

Daymond Goulder-Horobin Sun 5 Mar 2017 2:42AM
Meeting was solid, although it would be helpful to get an executive to come along at some point.

Daymond Goulder-Horobin Wed 26 Apr 2017 2:56AM
This was moved to its own thread. So far feedback has been promising.
Colin Smith · Mon 30 Jan 2017 6:08AM
Lets make it all of it and then I am happy to relinquish control as others step up to the plate.
