Infra meeting 6 - 2013 week 22

AB Anurag Bhandari Public Seen by 264

#0 What has been done
That includes talking about how much workout per day each is doing; ok, not really, but you can talk about it if you want to. :)

#1 Cherokee to nginx
Although Cherokee has been very easy to manage, it has not been without annoyances. Lack of documentation, no support for .htaccess, and difficulty in creating rewrite rules for Vanilla has prompted the team to move to a more commonplace webserver. And most of us prefer nginx over apache for its performance and caching. We'll discuss about the possibility of migrating to nginx, and how much efforts would go into achieving it.

#2 MySQL to MariaDB
As noted by most in the open source community, MySQL has been overly commercialized by Oracle. MariaDB is a good alternative to MySQL, and fully compatible with it. We'll discuss about the possibility of moving to MariaDB entirely, and how much efforts would go into achieving it.

#3 Persona (SSO)
SSO is a prime requirement for maintaining a hassle-free infrastructure, and for providing a seamless user experience to the end users. At present we rely on WordPress as being the central authentication authority to manage SSO on MediaWiki. We'll talk about using a more generic SSO system like Persona and OpenID.

#4 Other domains
Are we ready now to set all the domains we own to automatically resolve and send to openmandriva.org when they are requested? ~ John

#5 Translators in WP
Do we give editor rights to [some] translators in WP ? ~ JCL

Two other topics suggested:
* Preparing a wiki family (core/pool/languages) on nginx
* Creating a landing page for the whole website

Sounds good. I am busy for the whole of this coming weekend. During next week sometime would be best for me.

Other wished topic: our BWiki is very useful and, thanks to Wayne, not subject to the risk of agate/beryl breakdown but it is not secured enough. Imo, it must be accessed via https. So I suggest to install it on one of our server or anyone else but with ssl ability.
