How to find an empathy buddy (chat)

TH Tim Huegerich Public Seen by 4

Use your network

  • Invite your NVC contacts to join you on empathy.chat. Having more connections expands your network of potential empathy buddies. (Their close connections become your 2nd degree connections, who in turn connect you to 3rd degree connections, and so on.)

  • If you are part of an NVC group, ask the trainer or leader to create a group on empathy.chat to make it easier for you to connect with other group members (or you may be able to help by creating the group yourself).

Take the initiative

  • Fill out your empathy.chat profile to introduce yourself to prospective buddies (and letting them know if you are looking for a regular buddy).

  • Browse the profiles of others and "star" those you would be willing to try a chat with.

  • Use the built-in scheduler to "request" a chat, indicating some upcoming times you are available. Only those you specify will be able to see your request: you can limit it to your Starred list or a particular group or open it up to your whole network. You'll receive a notification if someone accepts your request. Then just return to empathy.chat at the specified time to be connected by video chat.

  • Or, if you prefer, choose a specific user (based on their profile and/or relationship to someone you know) to message and propose an empathy buddy chat that way, arranging to talk by phone or however you like.
