Proposal to hide OuiShare FB groups on our website
In connection with our current website content restructuring project, I would like to propose that we no longer display the long list of OuiShare topical Facebook groups, called "Knowledge groups" on the website.
The reason we originally added these when the website was launched in 2014 was because we wanted to show publicly how active the ouishare community is and at that time, our Facebook groups were indeed one of our main activities.
Arguments for deleting them:
- 90 % of the groups are no longer active, and do not have a leader managing them
- We still receive many requests from people to join our groups that come from the website (because this is how they find them), which are in most cases ignored, which puts us in a bad light and creates frustration among people wanting to join
- We have discussed the subject multiple times in the past of getting people more engaged again in curating groups, but have not seen much interest from Connectors or Members in taking the lead on curating groups any more
- there is too much information on the website anyways and we need to focus our message more
- We don't need these Facebook groups anymore to show that OuiShare is doing lots of great stuff, because we have other awesome projects to show :)
Arguments against deleting them
The few groups that may still be active will be more difficult to find. HOWEVER I suggest that all groups that still have an active curator create a project page on the website instead, so they can still be easily found.

If only 10% of those channels work, I think it would be good to let these channels active, .. would not it be better to close those that are not working and those who are left open whether working?, keep it simple :)

@francesca happy to see that we keep consistent conversations over time :)
Maybe we could ask the groups we are interested in (in may case: money, makers, mobility, retail) to identify this leader for the next 6 months with a clear role.
- If nobody takes responsibility ... make group secret and remove it from the list
- If somebody appears publicly as leader (in mobility Angelo (taxistop) is possible for example, makers someone from POC21, etc.) ...we try for 6 months. If it doesn't work.. make it secret and remove it.
Anyway... we need a low effort entry door for people in OuiShare and FB groups (both location based + theme based) are this low requirements entry door.

I'm with Fran on this, teams. Whoever needs a group will take care of it and propose themselves to do all the activities needed in them: Welcoming, Onboarding, Connecting, Informing, Curating info...
Albert, the lowest-effort entry door for people new to OuiShare is people inside OuiShare being welcoming and helping with onboarding. That is why Community Global was distributed and what it was distributed into: clear activities that anyone inside OS can do. We are there, we are ready to test what was decided last summer :)

Could we actually make a list here briefly the knowledge groups that are acutally still active and which have a clear leader? If we want to only show active groups, I think it needs to be mandatory to have one person who feels responsible for it, so that if, for instance, the group becomes inactive, this person remembers to remove it from the website (which did not happen till now).
The reality is that we do not have many active knowledge groups, so the list must be quite short. Also, @albertcanigueral I can't help noting that we have had this exact discussion 3 times in the last 2 years, and I distinctly remember that each time you have answered that we should make an attempt to remotivate people to take leadership on these groups. However nothing has happened since to make this a reality. Do you have a concrete proposal for a next step or are willing to take the lead on finding leaders for the inactive groups?
I want to underline that here we are talking about only the topical groups, not the Facebook groups by language or city.
@churitasrm @elenagiroli @luciahernandez do you think that converting the active groups either into "communities" or projects on the website could be a solution, so that they can still be found?
