LOOMIO +/- mailing-list (based) software
How can LOOMIO mailing feature work/interact with mailing/distribution/newsletter-list needs of an organization?
Hi @zblace - we have this page in our help menu: https://help.loomio.org/en/keeping_up_to_date.html
It explains that if you select all emails, you'll be emailed all activity in your group. You're able to reply from your email client as well.
We don't use this setting by default as the common response is that it's too many emails, and we try to cut down on emails as compared with mailing lists, but understand some people want this behaviour.
Does that explain it for you?
Oh - also we've had some requests about being about initiate a discussion from email, by sending to groupname@loomio.org but we don't have that feature yet.
hm - this is very basic I am really interested in more elaborate scenarios, but not sure these should be discussed here - maybe better develop on some pad? @robertguthrie
I'd find it useful if you could talk about how you would like to use it. Here is fine for me
I think part of the problem is that people approach Loomio as a 'web app that sends notifications by email', and they think they're looking for a 'mailing list manager with a web interface', not realizing they amount to the same thing. Maybe it would help to give coordinators the ability to identify whether their group is looking for the former or the latter when they start groups? If it's the former, the group would default to minimal email settings, while in the latter case, it would default to sending everything by email.
EDIT: punctuation and formatting
@natilombardo could you help us where to get informed on how exactly LOOMIO uses emailing and how can this maybe be tweaked so that organizations do not ahve to use both mailing/distribution/newsletter-list software or services (like googlegroups), or at least to be able to work in best possible synchronization (minimum redundancy) for people who just want to use this extensivly.
