The Advisory Board Nominations

NN Nick Napoli Public Seen by 112

Please provide nominations and self-nominations for the board in this discussion thread. Read below for details on how to do this.

The Advisory Board is a small group of individuals to be advised by a variety of community working groups. It will vote on matters relating to the Invent Space such as by-laws, recommendations from working groups, and other important space related action items. Although the position titles will be Admin, Finance, Legal, Resources, and Outreach, every member of the board should feel confident about discussing and voting on all propositions. The Advisory Board will be re-elected once our legal entity is finalized.

If you would like to be a part of the board, please provide the following...
1) the desired position,
2) a 200 word or less bio and/or list of qualifications.
3) any other information that will help the community make an informed decision.

Please send all (self-)nominations to squirrel@weknownothing.com
Or just post them right here in this discussion.

Here is a draft visualization of the structure as developed by a community champion. Thanks Amanda.

Name: Slade
Position: Admin
Qualifications: Last year, I setup a makerspace at a private school so that I could teach high-school-level technology. A large part of that was being a liaison with the school district to ensure educational standards were being met. Other key tasks included setting safety and community standards; determining what kinds of projects we could feasibly do with our restrictions of equipment, time, and space; and organizing competitions (e.g., robot wars). I was also a member of the program design committee, which required making a macroscopic evaluation of how the school operated. As someone who has designed and taught courses in 3D printing, robotics, crafting, and electronics, I believe I also have at least a basic understanding of the wide variety of specialist subjects that people will be bringing to the space; this will help me to address the needs and concerns of our maker community.

Name: Amanda Becerra
Position: Outreach
Qualifications: I recently moved from Washington DC to the Tri-Cities and have been looking for a place to make stuff! In addition to being a self-proclaimed artist and DIY-er, I am a training and outreach coordinator by trade and spend my time outreaching to the public safety community and designing training curriculum and programs. I also have experience in program management, drafting federal grant applications and managing grant funds, conference/working group planning, and composing standard operating procedures/bi-laws/charters/planning infrastructure documents. One reason I moved out of DC was that I wanted to live in a place that took pride in their community and I think that the Tri-Cities is fortunate to have such a community. It’s the perfect place to support a “maker’s space” and I am excited to be a part of the project!

Name: Art McBain
Position: Resources
Qualifications: I would like to run for the Resources position. I am no stranger to helping lead groups and making decisions, as an Eagle Scout and former member of my university's student ACM organization. I am passionate about making things, doing cool stuff, and having fun. I'd like to be able to help steward this local resource to enable others to do the same. I visit a hackerspace in Seattle to do various laser cutting projects for awards, art, and just for fun. I have an interest in learning a big of modelling to use my 3D printer and perhaps dabbling more in small electronics in the future. As this hackerspace would be a great place to do these things locally and provide services such as workshops and tools to aid, I feel it is my duty to help bring it to a reality rather than just tag along for the ride.

Name: Nick Napoli
Position: Legal
Qualifications: I was born and raised in Philadelphia, where culture and community pour from the back alleys and gush from the cheesesteaks. This made the my move to the Tri-Cities three years ago, a bit of a shock. Basically, my selfish goal is to have a studio space to make art and meet cool people. By helping to make a makerspace, I hope to inspire the community to see the potential of the area so that we can work together to build culture in the desert. I have held many titles in life: communications consultant, web designer, rocket scientist, gummy candy shot glass manufacturer, robot's bitch, zine maker, artist and community coordinator. I have experience starting and operating my own business and I have consulted others in how best to achieve their business goals. I have one degree in Mechanical Engineering and another in Computer Science/ Multimedia Arts. I have been involved in organizing a variety of community groups. Currently, I am an organizer for Art Hacks (http://www.meetup.com/arthacks/). Sometimes I make art that actually gets shown to the public ;-) My art has been shown at the Artomatic419, the WSU Tri-Cities gallery and in the pages of PunctureVine magazine. I hope to contribute to the decision making process by helping to create a fair and open system of governance for the space that will support the ideals of the group.

Name: Tanya Lasuk
Position: Financial
Qualifications: After spending an entire career as a programmer, team lead, and project manager in companies all around the country, October 1, 2013 I was suddenly without a job and with no desire to ever working for someone else again. I was free to be me and have been enjoying every minute. My projects have been rewarding in amazing ways. I now have the entrepreneur bug and am rewiring my mind to focus on what I want to do and how I want to do it.
