Weekly rent paid by households

The census data on weekly rent paid by households provides valuable information on housing affordability, which is a key policy concern. Collecting this in the census means that data for small areas is available, and a range of cross-tabulations with other census variables can be done , eg sector of landlord, and household income.

No new information needs regarding rent paid have been identified at this point.

Our current recommendations relating to weekly rent paid by household

  • We recommend that weekly rent paid by household be included with no changes in the 2018 Census.
