Revisiting decisions

The Enspiral Craftworks crew were just having a discussion about our policy for revisiting decisions. The idea is that once a decision is made a certain threshold of support needs to be reached before it can be reopened for discussion.

The algorithm we went for was the proposal needs either one of these thresholds to be met
a) half the number of people who voted on the proposal want to reopen it - i.e. if 8 people voted, 4 people could reopen
b) half the % of people who voted - i.e. if 20% of the community voted then 10% of the current community can reopen

The number vs % is a way to handle group sizes growing and shrinking.

It's pretty easy to implement this with a soft policy but it would be interesting to think about what baking it into the tool would look like

Definitely an interesting idea - agree with your assessment @matthewbartlett , I'd think this is a pretty specialized requirement

What if all the people who voted on the proposal don't want to reopen it, but all the other people in the community (say they are the 99%) want to revisit that decision?

I think it makes sense to review/ evaluate most decisions to check they are still valid/ useful.

I quite like the proposed method in the context above, but think @nicolaswormser makes a good point so perhaps the review could be triggered by % of current members of group who want to review?

Alternatively (or in addition) this could just be part of a proposal creation process, i.e. have a (optional?) field to add a Review/ Evaluation Date for Proposals (I'd really like this).

This is a common practice in sociocracy/ holarcray and other similar methods. Lots of proposals are more likely to be accepted, enabling the group to move on, if they know that all decision can/ will be reviewed/ evaluated at a later date.

A related idea would be to have some sort of timer on a proposal where you can write the expected outcome at that date. Then when the timer runs out, all discussions members will get notified and can vote if the goal was reached or needs further action.
