Transport - Building our Position

DG Daymond Goulder-Horobin Public Seen by 86

Hello

We are currently in the process of developing and rounding off the Party Manifesto and am interested to know your thoughts on what we should do about Transport. Currently we are reviewing policies put forward by organizations and are interested to hear what you guys think about the following plans going out.

Greater Aucklands plan

Ministry of Transport and a bit on Whistleblowing

A few more for extended reading

Perhaps the members can read it and post there feedback here. For instance what we agree on from the links and what we don't.

I support the efforts to invest in transport infrastructure - eg "In Wellington, a $37m "Commuter Package" would see the line from Trentham to Upper Hutt double tracked and there would be improvements on the Kapiti line." Ref Stuff

Daily the Hutt 'express' train is delayed for other services in the single track and electrification of the main trunk up the island would likely help too? I'm in support of light rail in Wellington and a reduction to the smelly buses.

I guess one question as a whole is do we support "Congestion Free Network 2" and If so then do we support there suggestions for what the government can do.

Will make a decision regarding the Greater Aucklands suggestions, in sum supporting the following suggestions

Creating a dedicated activity class in the Government Policy Statement (GPS) for progressing CFN2, with sufficient funding.

Identifying the NZ Transport Agency as having lead responsibility for delivering CFN lines A-G.

NZTA and Auckland Transport working together to protect routes for the whole CFN2 within the next five years.

Then perhaps moving on to other parts of the country and other areas.

I'm assuming CFN is like Wellingtons "intelligent motorway" and essentially just an investment in bringing our transport infrastructure (the software and hardware as well as the actual roads/ rails) up to speed so journeys are efficient for the majority. If so then yes - push on, but ensure the efficiencies are actually an improvement. It's too easy to spend a heap of money on improving nothing.
