Approve ChangeLab's application to join CoTech

We've had an application to join from https://www.changelab.io/

I believe they meet the criteria for membership and should be admitted on the basis that:

  • they clearly state that they are a worker co-op on their website

  • they have confirmed in writing to me that they support and abide by the seven co-op principles

  • they work in the tech sector designing and building campaign tools for progressive organisations

They have not formally incorporated the co-operative principles into their company articles, but I've sent them the example from uk.coop and they are looking at how to incorporate them. I believe they would benefit from the support of the network in this area.

They are not against joining the fund, but want to understand more about the network before committing

ChangeLab are the newest members of CoTech. Hoorah. I'll mention that it's contingent on them cementing their status as a worker co-op and that we'd expect to see some of the content from the CUK model articles incorporated into their company in the next 12 months, and would be happy to advise on how to do that.

They appear to be a UK-based worker co-op in the tech sector and are therefore eligible for membership.

Support, however would be best for them to incorporate the principles properly into their articles - however I think there is no doubt they follow them

For CBN. But we should communicate Graham's points to them

We agree they should join and be encouraged to update their articles, with a time-limit on when they should have done this by, as was the case with GreenNet.

Autonomic is in favour. Let's check in on their progress to a more co-operative rule set at a later date.

Would be great to meet ChangeLab and find out more. Go Free Range joined CoTech before we had converted our articles to a co-op company limited by shares. We've had no problems since that conversion. We're happy to share our experiences with ChangeLab if it helps.
