Out of region players and qualification

DCM David Corrin MEL Public Seen by 119

Should the current 2/3 rule stand for out of region players and worlds qualification/australasian qualifier participation?

One thing to consider is how any rule change might be policed.

I think we really have to consider this as we get closer as there may be players who move out just for the worlds (awesome!). It may even mean we just allocate more slots for our region.

Ether way, as long as we can have a discussion about it, I know that Dave wants to head to America to play some of their qualifiers, so it would be good to clear it up before then. Its never been skin off my nose but BNE players have been knocked out of qualification previously by players that subsequently qualified in other regions so for us it is an issue that needs to be addressed.

And sure in the case of MPS they were offered a slot later in both 2013 and 14, but this was too late as they didn't then have the time to get leave, save and what not. So they were at a disadvantage because players came here to play, not to qualify to worlds.

I guess we need to decide are we having a qualifying tournament for worlds, or a big fun everyone invited tournament.

I think what Ollie is saying is that it's more to stop a top notch player from OS coming here to beef up a local team which would knock out a team who would have otherwise have qualified as opposed to preventing our players go over there to qualify in their tournie, i.e. not targeting Dave but targeting players from OS.

@ollie1 if NAH have this would that mean Dave wouldn't be playing in our nats anyway?

Thats more a question for them to answer Brook. I don't think they have a problem with it as Greg did it a couple of years ago. And Seabass and Hugo qualified in NA rather that Europe as Cocorico in 2012, but I can't remember if they played both.

I know domestically they keep track of registered players on Podium and they name and shame people attending multiple NAH qualifiers...

And yep, thats exactly what I was referring to above.

The simple solution would be allocating more slots than we have had in the past. Say 8 or 12. Even 14!!!

Nah regional quals are restricted but NA's is not. The only thing that is stopping someone from competing in NA's and euros from the NAH's point of view is the fact that both quals are on the same weekend. Nah have no rule against it. I think the European case is different given the proximity. Stopping people from playing two quals at this point in the sport is not worth it IMO but I'm biased as I'm in a position to play NA's and I can tell you which one I will choose if I can only choose one...

To be honest I'm more thinking about our quals. I don't think its a problem for you to go over Dave, I'm more thinking that it will already be super competitive for slots in our region.

Realistically it is better for our regions development if you go over there.

So if the real problem here is not me playing in NA's and rather that slayers might come here, carry a team and not play at worlds with said team then shouldn't we just make the rule that 2/3rds teams are not eligible for qualification without the presence of their international team member?
