Moving a comment to a new thread
Long threads can get messy, as everyone who has run an online community knows. Sometimes, very useful and valuable conversations happen off-topic. Being able to spin these off into a new thread would be very useful. As I understad it, this is possible with Discourse. How difficult would it be to implement something similar in Loomio?
Oh I'd love this functionality. So often as a group coordinator I've been excited to have a new or quiet person contribute, but in the wrong spot, and I've wanted to be able to shift the comment leaving behind e.g. 'a coordinator moved a comment to the discussion "meeting agenda"' that people can click to get to the destination discussion, plus a similar activity item at the destination, linking back to the original discussion. I think it would help keep groups organise and gently teach newbies about the mental model of the particular group.
Yeah I heard the same feedback from some users last week. They specifically want to be able to move comments between subthreads. Makes sense to me, if you can move a thread to a new group, you should be able to move a comment to another thread, or to another branch in the same thread.
Just for reference, this subject has been debated here...
Moving comments (and their replies) to other threads would indeed be great. It's also related to forking a discussion, where we leave a reference to the new discussion in place of the comments.
With work, it is possible.. We're not totally clear when we'll be able to do it right now. I hope it's soonish.
