Introduce yourself to the Loomio Community
There are so many new faces popping up in the Loomio Community!
This is a place where everyone can introduce themselves to the group, so we can all get to know each other :)
As new people come in who have provided some info about themselves, we'll welcome them here.
Hi!
thanks for accepting my request!
We're a newly born italian non profit association "Staisinergico" (www.staisinergico.it - still in progress). Our association works on the themes of coworking, sharing economy, social innovation.
As we're spread all over the region Apulia and I personally live and work in Berlin, we have been looking for a platform that could improve our workflow, communications and decisional process. I found out about Loomio through the CAPS2020 platform and i thought it was great: therefore we created a Staisinergico group and are now in the process of beginning to work on some projects using Loomio!
Looking forward for more to come!! and collaborate with you, from the user point of view, in improving it!
Cheers
Enrica

Welcome @miguelafdezgaliano!
hello.
i’m trying to lear a bit about this tool for political use. i hope that this is a good place to start from
I just like to see this app flourish.
One of the suggestion is if you could create a schedule time table voting area. That would be great. Like for example, Doodle...
it makes life democratic and easy to conduct our meeting.
Welcome new members!
@benoit3
I am developer interested by the positive social changes that technology can bring to us.
@shacharradinshomra
CMO of an ad tech company. Looking forward to be using Loomio for our enterprise decision making. Lacking some weighted voting mechanism / bidding mechanism.
Looking forward to test the new version.

Welcome @henkdaalder!
Just started a new group, and finding out how all this works!
@borisrorsvort1
Hi, I’m the IT/Designer guy for the Brussels local Attac group
I'm really exited by this angular angular version ;) But it's still quite buggy. I've reported bugs to github as I know the tool pretty well but maybe it would be nice to provide a way for non techy people to submit theirs and suggestion in a easy way, no? Maybe It exist and missed it?
Congratz for all the work though, it rocks :)
Thanks Boris. Glad to hear you're excited about it. We're still on holiday in NZ - we know there are a lot of the issues with the system, there is still quite a lot of development to go . Because of this, individual bug reports at this stage might not be so useful, but we do appreciate the effort and support.
@robertguthrie Bug reports aren't useful at this stage? Why would that be? Thanks.
In short - it's not the feedback we feel is useful at this stage.
There is work involved in keeping up with them (bug reports). A lot of what you see in the angular version is not what we want it to be - meaning we still have some very important pieces of functionality to add.
We think that we know what most of the bugs are already - we're using this ourselves.
In any case we're not really interested in the bugs we don't know about until all the major functionality is in there. If we look at them we're taking time away from big stuff. So it makes sense to do them later.
We do want bug reports when we think we're approaching a real release, but until then it seems like a bad use of everyones energy.
Well, since you're using github issues, i guess we can at least use that channel right?
Otherwise we'll have to keep track ourselves of the potential bugs and manually see if they get fixed over time.
I'd be ok to reconsider this if It means we get more contributions and collaborators... I was thinking in a pretty uncollaborative way I guess.
Welcome @danielkasak! Thank you for providing an introduction - sounds like you're in the right place. Make yourself at home :)
I’m a software engineer, musician, and activist. I’m interested in using Loomio in various political organisations I’m a member of, and hopefully also contributing some code.
@robertguthrie As not-community-driven as the Loomio building process has been thus far, because us programmers who use Loomio aren't submitting pull requests? Sorry!
@robertguthrie Really, REALLY important question (which I've asked other Loomio members) that I want your take on -- what do you need to complete Loomio 1.0 ASAP? Pull requests, and donations to fund code-making? Are those the main 2?
@elimisteve I know you're really keen to help, but I'm on holiday after working really hard up to the end of last year.
Work will really pick up in Feb, but until then I personally don't have time to answer your requests.
The roadmap is the most up to date place for progress.
We're excited to open up the development processes as much as feels productive to us. @jameskiesel is taking on the role of supporting open source contributors. It seems like 2015 is going to be a promising year for real open source contributions, and we hope to help it thrive, but you might just need to be patient because of the specific time of year.
@robertguthrie You've kicked ass and have personally added hundreds and hundreds of thousands of lines of code to Loomio, which is amazing -- please recharge and enjoy your break! :-)
I'll think of more precise questions and maybe we can tend to them later.
@elimisteve Donations to help speed up the completion of Loomio 1.0 would certainly be welcome! You can do that through our crowdfunding page (which is still live), or if that doesn’t suit drop me a note (matthew.bartlett@loomio.org) and we’ll figure something out :)
@elimisteve just for the record, I've contributed a lot of code recently.. but the hundreds of thousands of lines are actually libraries that I copied in, then removed (which also counts as lines of work) as I was trying to solve the problem of deploying the angular system.
In fact, it was sloppy work done under time pressure. It might be possible to remove those commits from the tree to clean up the statistics.
Thanks @matthewbartlett.
@robertguthrie Fair enough.
Anyway, great work @matthewbartlett, Max Irving, @jessedoud, @simontegg, @hannahsalmon, @jonlemmon, @aaronthornton, @alanna, @robertguthrie, and others for your code and documentation contributions to Loomio in 2014!
Welcome @rickmendes! Thank you for the introduction!
I’m interested in federated web, #indieweb, and their use for grassroots movements. i have never used Loomio particularly for any reason, but i might introduce it at my job one of these days.
Welcome @emilolewilliamkirk! Care to introduce yourself?
Welcome @mal-eps!
We’re using Loomio to vote in EuroPython work groups. EuroPython is a large European Python conference.
Based on our experience and needs, I have some suggestions for improvements.
Thanks.
Sounds like you might be interested in joining our Feature ideas subgroup. We also have a public roadmap which documents what's coming up in our development pipeline.
Welcome @sarahnguyen! Care to introduce yourself? We would love to hear from you :)
Please welcome our newest members!
Welcome @tomwragg! Would you care to tell us a little about yourself?
Welcome @denjello! Thanks so much for providing us with an introduction!
I am an artist, author and media activist. I’ve been tasked with testing LOOMIO on our intranet for a non-profit with about 180 active members in Hamburg, Germany: http://das-gaengeviertel.info
My usual stack is linux / nodejs / jade / less / bash, but I’ll hack a bit of C++ if there is a need for speed. I’m a bit new to Ruby, but its all good.
In a love/hate relationship with ARM SoC’s and VPU’s.
Great to have you in here @denjello - I've loved your contributions on Github :)
Hey @denjello, super happy about your enthusiasm around Loomio lately. If you wanted to shoot an email address to james at loomio dot org, I'd love to set up a time we can chat about what areas of contribution might interest you.
Welcome to the community @diegosantamariamat! Care to tell us a little about yourself and what brings you here?
Welcome @ernestpayamontlleo!
Hola a todos/as, soy administrador de algunos grupos, y me parece una excelente herramienta participativa. Un abrazxo
Welcome @jakubbukaj!
I am a hacker interested in digital democracy. I’ve come across Loomio and am evaluating how it can be used for empowering people in being more involved in governance of all sorts. Would like to join the discussions.
Welcome @presley!
I’m considering using Loomio for my Burning Man camp and I’d like to get involved with the code at some point. I love the way this community works and I know I’ll want to follow some of its discussions.
Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome! I was thinking it might be useful for me to document the questions I had about how Loomio works that weren't on the help page before I forget and it all feels obvious :). This discussion is relevant but old; should I post there or elsewhere?
Welcome @presley! It would be so so great to hear what your questions were when you first started using Loomio.
We're underway on a documentation project to make the software as easy as possible to use, so your perspective would be a great insight :)
Welcome to the Loomio community @gorka5! Care to tell us a few words about yourself?
Hi Hannah. I'm a teacher and a multiactivist. I'm in Loomio because it's an good tool to discuss and I use it to discuss and vote in our organitzation when it's dificult to meet or vote in person.
Welcome @olover! Please make yourself at home :)
I have been looking for something like Loomio for a long time and am glad it now exists! I also believe in collective contributions to keep improving it and I’d love to be part of that.
Hey guys
I'm new to the group, my girlfriend and I recently stumbled upon Loomio and we immediately saw immense applicability of this tool to just about anything you can think of.
We're both active members of a leftist political party, into which we're going to implant Loomio as out main means of communication.
We're short on the tech knowledge about back-end stuff like the actual installation of Loomio (but so far, Hannah has been kind enough and patient with my questions), so we're taking it one step at a time.
Cheers
Welcome @andrejstanic! Great to have you in here :)
@andrejstanic If you are interested in the political idea of direct democracy facilitated by the internet, please consider joining Global direct democracy working group
Welcome @gust! Would you be interested in telling us a few words about yourself?

Please make yourself at home.
Hi @raj2! Welcome! Thanks for providing an introduction :)
I ve been involved in IT for 20 years with considerable infrastructure, Web dev, cloud SDLC and worked on the periphery of open source project in my spare time. FOr some time I have been exploring democratic decision making systems which vest the power of decision making directly in the hands of people instead of representatives. I hope I may contribute to Loomio to bring our shared learnings together.
Welcome @naught101! Great to have you here :)
Just a user/FOSS fanatic. Using Loomio for organising a makerspace.
Just thought I would mention: "Happy Open Data Day!"

Welcome @hannahkowalski!
hi from hamburg
Hello from Aotearoa New Zealand :)
Welcome @noamlevy!
As a certified Co-Play© consultant and team member, I’m excited and very interested to learn hoe Loomio can fit to our mehodologies and practices of brainstorming and decision making process.
So far it seems practical and simple to use, wich is what we are looking for.
Welcome @Nicorr!
Hello !
I currently lead a mobile game called “City Domination” (1M downloads).
I recently started to invite my community on Loomio, to make a more participative conception for new features. It has been so far (~2 weeks) a real success, so we are exited to dig further into collaboration.
I am also intrigued by open-source developpement and new ways to run organizations =)
I will be glad to contribute to the Loomio project, by discussing and maybe contributing to the software.Best regards,
Nicolas
I love the idea of democratically organised city domination :P
Welcome to the community @xandergroeneveld! Awesome to have you here!
Hey all, My name is Xander I’m developer who is interested in contributing to meaningful open source projects. I work full stack and have extensive experience with rails, backbone, node, responsive css, app deployments and a moderate amount of devops experience. I hope I can help out and excited to dive deeper into angular. O and I’ve also had a fair amount of experience with the rails asset pipeline and setting up CDN’s.
Sounds like some great skills @xandergroeneveld - check Loomio out on Github if you want to explore the codebase further :)
Please welcome @andivida(!), who provided the following introduction:
I wish to learn more about the loomio.
Andi
Please let us know if we can answer any specific Loomio questions :)
hi alll :) I'm a member of a new ngo group in Szeged / South Hungary. We have organized a conference, the first one of other similar Hungarian movements, civil organizations. Our first group was dedicated to organize this conference.
Finished it, I want to "archive" it partially: leaving there only some of the adequate topics, and want to save, archive the other ones. Then create a new group to the second conference, to continue the organizing.
I couldn't find any solution to archive topics (searching in loomio, googling etc.), so I've saved them in word (foolish method, I know :) ) - then I've deleted them, and rename our original group.
Is there any good solution to solve this?
Thanks for your kind welcoming :)
Hi @andivida, apologies for the delay! Currently there is no functionality in Loomio for archiving discussions, however it has been discussed at length in the Feature Ideas subgroup, and there is a card for it in our public roadmap (which documents what's coming up in our development pipeline). Right now, we’re focused on finishing the transition to Loomio 1.0, but we’ll be digging into designing and developing functionality users want later in the year :)
We have some new community members joining us!
Please welcome @robertbest, who provided us with this introduction:
I use Loomio with the Metamaps.cc team. Would love to join this group.
And welcome @David! Care to tell us a little bit about yourself?
Please welcome @alisondonovan!
Hi - I am new to Loomio and wanted to ask a question that isn’t answered on the help page? I am having trouble opening attachments. My .docx file opens in another browser tab as gobbledygook!
thanks
alison
Hi Alison, it sounds like it could be a browser issue - are you able to save the file, and then open it using Word?
If you have any other technical questions about Loomio, or if you experience any further problems, please feel free to send an email to contact@loomio.org, or post them in our Help subgroup :)
Welcome new voices!
Welcome @Gabi Boss!
Welcome @andretakahashi!
