Add democratic mutiny feature to replace Loomio group administrators
Purely for lols but also serious.
Lol
When a group is being harassed by their very own administrator(s), someone in the group needs to be replaced so we can all live on in liberation!
It is a good idea, should require 80% approval. 51% is not a good enough threshold to change anything.
I'm not looking at this issue seriously nor denying its potential value. :) I will say, in addition to strongly advocating supermajority, I think the key issue is the relationship of percentage threshold to quorum. All kinds of awful things happen in majority voting, even supermajority, due to 'low voter turnout'.
@williamasiata would love to see a mockup :)
No malice needs to be involved. Sometimes people just go AWOL. I'm certainly aware of at least one group in which this became an issue, due to my being offline for a year, and not making sure all my Loomio groups and subgroups had other active Coordinators. So +1 on the feature, but agree with @jacobgadikian about supermajority and @gregorycassel about quorum requirement.
Sometimes people just go AWOL.
Yeah and that's inevitable, but a great notifications system could help to mitigate the many cases where people are sort of absent but not entirely unavailable. I think Loomio's notifications systems have been getting a pretty good amount of attention so far. I'm very thankful for that, and I'll encourage it in the future.
Another thing to think about is who will next stand in.
There seem to be 3 or so competing methods to choose from.
Approval voting, ranked/preferential voting, randomised apointment/sortition.
And the members it could apply to is either at-large or self-nomination.
They each have merits in their own way coming from various perspectives. I wonder if one is best. Perhaps debunk the ideals they embody, to find out which ones are least hierarchical, and most appropriate...
lol +1. Hilarious indeed, and totally fits with the Loomio ethos.
