[AP closed, CeltsBurn2023 4-11April] 'A proper fucking burn' - should we make Celtic Burn a week-long event?

CH Chris Hemmings Public Seen by 62

**THIS AP IS NOW CLOSED - CELTIC BURN WILL NOW BE HELD APRIL 4th - APRIL 11th**

It's happening! Today we have confirmed the same site as last year for Celtic Burn 2023. Hooray!

Now talk has moved as to whether or not we should make Celtic Burn a proper fucking burn, and do it for a week.

Given we are booking the same land, the dates we have for this year would be to do Tuesday April 4th- Tuesday April 11th. That would mean we have much more time for build to make the site our own, bring/build art, make it cosier (and warmer) in places and generally make it feel more like a burn. Given we're looking at 100% moving to new land for 2024, it would also set a precedent for us to do a Sunday-Sunday burn ongoing.

Either that, or we keep it at five days as last year and do Thursday 6th - Tuesday 11th.

What do people think? We're not 100% certain on costs yet, but given we can unofficially expand to 150 this year, there wouldn't be a huge increase in costs as the +50 people would cover the expense of hiring the site for two more days.

We've provisionally booked the site for the week, but will change it back if people disagree.

I'll keep this AP open until the end of October.

And don't forget to Live, Laugh, Love x

I think a week sounds like a great shout as i really enjoy the week-long experience and think it lets people get much deeper into the event, esp as we are timing it with bank holidays the annual leave isn't too brutal so we would hopefully get a fair few people coming for the whole time / most of it but as mentioned above that is up to the individuals.

i think my main concern is more about ££ / numbers. i appreciate we can increase to 150 which is exciting given there was a lot of space for the activities and the activity aspect of the site deffo has room for an extra 50 ppl but i'm not entirely sure where an extra 50 people will sleep! the tentzone was pretty much full. i appreciate we're planning to get the other yurts but also want to use those as workshop spaces (tricky combo tho, really) and even if they were just pure sleeping that's like absolute max 10 spots. the parking leading up to those yurts could defs provide space for some more vans but all in all could be a bit of a squeeze. we were reasonably comfortable last year but there was not a lot of space left at the end!

likely that insurance cost will also go up with 150 so we'll need to remember that when formulating predicted costs.

tldr i think full week sound great and am conceptually v on board but i think the ££ / # of people on site needs some thought

Week long is a win for me, but I have the freedom to be there from start to finish and have a self contained home on wheels so that's an easy call for me. I would also offer to support setting things up so that more people can come for the whole week and think it's an important distinction from weekend festivals that we should highlight in materials/membership sale etc. Longer time on site means more and better connections and less pressure each hour to be doing something. Love it
