Tagging categories of people

I wish that on Loomio you could tag categories and it would notify everyone with that tag on their profile.
Examples:
Tags people could self-nominate and could live on their user profiles:
@developers
@facilitators
Tag all the members of a subgroup:
@translation
@comms
Tag people who fit demographic categories, or who agree to represent sort of user personas:
@Wellington
@remote
@volunteers
So you could basically "call" a whole category of people to respond to a relevant discussion or proposal.
Examples in context...
"That sounds like a good idea, but we need to hear from some @developers about the technical details"
"We're about to agree on this proposal but I notice we haven't heard from any @remote participants"
"@comms where are we at with the press release we said we would put out next week?"
The other benefit would be you'd go to a user's profile and you'd see all the tags associated with them (like @wellington @facilitator etc) and it would be a great overview of who they are. Tags would evolve in really interesting ways, comprising personal characteristics, professional skills, loomio group memberships, and demographic categories. If people weren't getting value in being "pinged" as a certain category, they could just untag themselves from it. If people wanted to start "following" a certain kind of discussion (like, what are facilitators all talking about around Loomio) they could add themselves to it.

I really like this idea a lot. It would combine tags with @mentions in a really unique way that I'm not sure is employed anywhere else online. Very innovative.
Tag profiles

Each user should be able to tag their profile.
The same as with probably any other item, the user should be able to edit and delete any such tag.
These tags (as many other items) should be searchable.
The user should be able to subscribe to, and unsubscribe from, notifications of tag mentions.

agree. this will need some design then need to be developed. I don' think it's a core priority till loomio 1.0 is built, but worth keeping in mind
Sounds useful and cool. Groups can sometimes get too busy with discussions and people switch off due to information overload. Tags would be a good way to mark discussions as specifically relevant to you.
looking forward to designing this in the future! in reality it will probably not be a priority for a little while but I do think it's a great idea.

I was thinking this would be fantastic for facilitators and other roles in group process too
Fantastic feature! And very consistent with the phrase “real democracy needs to include everyone” since tagging more people will go to express themselves. Also the system of how it should be is very well described.

tags are amazing, although why not #hashtag format?
I like this because it deepens the interface between the user and the group at large.

Do you suggest that each user should also be able to tag somebody else's profile?
I currently use Nationbuilder as its a part of the NGO I volunteer with, tagging is an incredibly useful tool for field organisation and generally segmenting and mobilising any social organisation or movement!
10/10 suggestion.
