At the moment you can only opt-out of getting mails, but some discussions are more-important than others for which you might like to be emailed immediately whereas on other high-volume discussions being spammed is kinda bad...

But the Follow discussion option does not help in this case? Or you want to follow a discussion but without receiving any emails?

One of the simpler refinement options would be to couple 'Follow' with a star/ favorite system. If one were notified of basically everything for starred items, Loomio could offer users some extra meaningful customization options for notifications on 'followed' items.

Here is the use case: At the moment we have 1 main group that all of our members are in. Then there are 15 subgroups. Everyone is a member of at least 6 groups, and some people hate email so they turn on the digest. Everyone is also on at least three mailing lists and our inboxes are swamped. For some people higher up in the organization, like the board, they actually need two - three hours daily to clear their inboxes with due diligence. At the moment, however there is a really important discussion going on where new input is coming all the time and the window of opportunity is very small and being able to receive email notifications on that one discussion is something that people have requested.

I'm not following this discussion, but I'm still getting notified about it in my (loomio) inbox. It's a bit weird, because I'm also not "following" the feature ideas group, although I have joined it. It would be good to be able to stop that too. Maybe it's a bug?

There are 3 different levels of "follow", really:

  • email + loomio inbox
  • loomio inbox only
  • no follow

This is the case for each discussion.

For groups, I think instead of "following" the group, it would be preferable to be able to set defaults for new discussions in that group, as above, which can then be manually modified to one of the other options.

Email Settings:

  • 'Yesterday on Loomio' - a daily summary of any activity I've missed
  • When I'm @mentioned
  • When there is activity in threads I'm following.
  • 24 hours before a proposal closes.
  • New discussions and proposals
