Australasian Ruleset

Should we continue to have our own ruleset? Or should we adopt the NAH ruleset as our own in the interest of global consistency?

I am for global consistency. Our players are increasingly engaging with the international polo community and our game needs to develop alongside that community to be competitive.

I also believe that the current NAH ruleset is the culmination of some excellent work by key players who understand the game very well. Many of the recent changes have only made sense to me since I have attempted to ref under the ageing oz ruleset.

Key differences are possible awarded penalty goals for flagrance, 2 second ball jointing anywhere on court and the inability for the penalised team to score during a power play. Also the referee needs to confirm with players that they are ready to begin play after a reset.

The only resistance I have had from my constituency is toward the rule that forbids the penalised team from scoring during a power play. I think that most of the resistance is just unfamiliarity with the idea rather than a real problem with the rule. I believe that the inability to score serves as an increased disadvantage which further incentivises clean and safe play. Insofar as this is that aim of this rule I am on board with it 100%.

I also believe that in adopting the NAH ruleset we will have a better chance of being involved in reflective discussion in the future. I believe that we should officially adopt it in some capacity and notify NAH in the hope that we are involved in the further development and discussion with regard to future changes.

Dave.

I think that we as a region should be flexible. We will be playing under the NAH ruleset at worlds, but we may be setting a ruleset for next years, so an understanding of what works and doesn't with the most current global ruleset is paramount.

I think we adopt the NAH for the rest of this season then open discussions for a 2015 ruleset which can be developed with EHBP and NAH. Thereby creating a truly global ruleset for WHBPC15.

AHBPA uses current NAH ruleset until next season where we then create the first WHBPC specific ruleset. Closed Sun 10 Aug 2014 12:08AM

There was no clear outcome. We will debate the rulesets further to determined we write a new rulset, apply the NAH rules or keep the AHBPA rules.

I have commenced the NAH ref online training, which is not hard. I have noticed we do not seem to use Time-outs that I have seen (apart from Mechs and injury).

I think a discussion should stay open for longer before proposals for voting to allow more input.

Three things:
1. We should keep an AHBPA ruleset
2. I'd like to see a comparison of the two rulesets first.
3. I'd like us to have agreement from NAH and EHBP that they want a World ruleset - with agreement they include us in creating it.

While I'm not totally against the idea, I do believe it requires a lot more discussion before a decision can be made.
