I noticed in the notes from the last TBANZ meeting that there was some discussion around whether businesses can belong to timebanks. What do people think about this?

Businesses should not be allowed

It is against the spirit of timebanking to allow commercial businesses.

I think that timebanks can move businesses in a direction of social awareness and change and we can utilise that opportunity.

Businesses are definately part of our community, we need them as much as they need us.

A lot of people in my area run small businesses and their involvement in timebanking could be mutually beneficial. There would need to be protocols developed by each timebank around business involvement.

I'd actually been thinking about joining up my business to Taranaki Timebank for a while and offering consulting for organisations on what they can do with technology.

The thing that held me back is it's hard to approach this without advertising what your business does for paid work.

Any ideas on whether there should be limitations around what services businesses offer on timebank?

This leads to another discussion that perhaps we should have once more people are connected into loomio:

What protocols need to be in place to work with businesses?

I'm not suggesting that we have a set of rules in place that everyone has to abide by as that goes against the fluid nature of timebanking but I think it would be beneficial to work out at a national level some of the limitations around tax and government restrictions on businesses working for time credits.
