I would also suggest that the most important thing is that as many people as possible find Loomio accessible and safe.
I am ignorant of how the various Spanish speakers would find it if it was just listed as Castilian. How would they respond?

Another solution could be to list the languages:

Español (Castilian)
Español (Catalan)

Loomio it is not made to complicate things, I'm aware people mistakenly call Spanish Castellano and viceversa.
Spanish and Catalan are two different languages and I understand the request to list them separately, but Spanish/Castellano are basically the same thing, it's a bit ridiculous. Loomio is here to solve better things lets not waste these guys resources with childish requests.

Spanish and Castellano are two names for the same language. Official one is "Spanish".

Some persons prefer to use "Castellano" for the reasons Nacho exposed but that's more a political discussion.

On the other hand, Catalan/Vasco/Gallego are completely different languages that are spoken in Spain.

It's OK the way it's configured now.

Hi @mixirving , I agree with @noelia and @LuisEsc, Spanish is widely accepted in Internet as a standard unmarked designator for our language. Many of us could easily use "castellano" in oral communication, but it is just the consequence of ages of political correctness that today is no longer needed.

I think the best way is use Castilian, many people around the world know what is Castilian, and it is the best way to make difference between Catalan, Basque or Galician
The oficial use of Castilian or Castellano like *Spanish may be changed, many linguistic experts and tecnicals are working for change that

@mixirving be careful with this! --> Español (Catalan) it's an understandable mistake for non-spanish speakers, but it can harm some sensibilities (mine, for ex. XD) There are right-wing political movements with that unacademic theory.
I think the best option would be:
- Catalan
- Castilian (Spanish)
In south america castilian it's called spanish, we like it or not.

Thanks for the clarification @PauKokura - I was meaning to suggest grouping the languages in some way to perhaps make it easier and less ambiguous for users to access the right language. This means speakers who are looking for Castilian / Spanish in a long list of languages, and speakers who looking for some other language and being presented with an already large list.

I personally feel the need for clear distinction is most important when these languages are more strongly in use within loomio. Currently we have Castillian/ Spanish well maintained, Basque in translation and Catalan not well maintained.

Hi. There is at least a string that appears and is translated in Transifex, but doesn't appear in the Spanish version (I mean there is not even a blank line or an untranslated expression for it). Sadly this string provides context to the rest of options. I'm talking about the Email me: string at the beginning of the in the Email preferences profile editor.

Somebody submitted a suggestion to correct this issue with no apparent effect. I did vote it but I'm afraid this issue should be addressed elsewhere. Could anybody help?

I suppose you are talking of string number 2.

That string is translated and reviewed... if it doesn't appear probably because... it's not used in the code???

I can't even find that string in the English version of the webpage... If that's what you mean it's a general problem of loomio, not of the spanish version of the webpage.

@jesusm I think @LuisEsc is probably correct. Can you give me the english and spanish text and I will check and report back.
