Poll Vote
I think it would help consensus to have a poll vote as an extension to the current discussion and hand signal voting methods.

This would allow for greater individual autonomy, improved direct democracy, improved transparency of thought and simplified experience.
i.e. a group should not have the power to deny an individual the ability to choose where to designate one's own resources at every turn - participatory budgeting.

Use example:
One major part of the decision making process that is critical to many groups, is what to spend individual and collective resources on. While Loomio allows for budgeting through discussion, it's an overcomplicated process that becomes messy when designating resources to more than a single area, is not very transparent due to complexity, unnecessarily subordinates individual decision making to group process.
With polling as extension, autonomy would still be a subset of consensus as polls would be constructed out of discussion and current consensus method. Poll votes provide more accurate consensus through collective aggregation of vote count and undiluted individual decision making.
Polls can reach large audiences and gain widespread consensus, due to their simplicity. Though to date they are not very democratic since there's no way to participate in changing polling options, with little room to discuss poll options in depth. So I think there's a need for Democratic Poll Voting.

@stevenpalmer Great post Steven! Great idea. I hadn't heard about pollcode.com. Thanks so much!
@alanna, Cobudget sounds really cool as well. When do you imagine it will be available on Loomio?
And thanks to you and the others for all are doing. I really love Loomio!
Thank you @alanna - co-budget looks great.
Cobudget is in early stage development. @joshuavial and @simontegg might be able to give more details.
Enspiral runs a collaborative funding process using Loomio and spreadsheet right now - there's nothing stopping you if you want to do it! I'm a big fan of seeing how far you can get without requiring any new software tools. Usually it's pretty far!
@stevecoffman at this stage it is undetermined when we will start on integrating with Loomio though it's quite high up the priority list. I it is likely we will release something in th next 3 - 6 months.
Hi @stevecoffman. Cobudget will be ready for beta-testing late in the year.
Note that Cobudget is its own app. We're trying to integrate with Loomio, so for example, if you have group on Loomio you will be able to export that group to Cobudget without having to invite them all again.
@joshuavial @simontegg are you two the main/ lead developers of Enspiral Open App Ecosystem stuff?
@josefdaviescoates that better describes @ahdinosaur :)
Enspiral Open App Ecosystem loomio group is now public and can be found here https://www.loomio.org/g/exAKrBUp/app-ecosystem
Hi Steven, thanks for the thorough post! This is an idea that has been raised a lot, and presents some interesting design questions.
Here are some of the previous thread on this topic:
You might also be interested in how Enspiral uses Loomio specifically for participatory budgeting. A mashup of Loomio and the collaborative funding app we're developing called Cobudget is something a lot of people are quite excited about.
