Public or private?

AM Amy McDonnell Public Seen by 84

Do we want our Loomio group to be:

  1. Public and anyone in Loomioland can join
  2. Public but people have to request to join
  3. Private and only viewable by ourselves

....At the moment everything is public

Hi all,
I agree, if it makes us all comfortable it is very important to make some aspects private - the material dialogue and maybe even the development of the exhibition for now (I will start a new page for this very soon).
I agree with Maurice that it is interesting to think through how and why we might want to attract the input of other Loomio users. I will do some research on other public groups, see what activity they carry out and how they function. So for now I will vote YES!

Great - seems like we agree. Is it OK to make the Material Dialogue private then Maurice? Then we can crack on with the conversation.
Cheers!

Do we want to invite other Loomio users to contribute? Closed Mon 19 Jan 2015 5:04PM

Recently I've been having a look around Loomio to see who else is using it. In most categories including 'Arts' there seems to be just 20 to 30 groups. The category 'Political Initiatives' seems most popular, you can find small political parties such as the Pirate Party in this category. Most of these groups are spanish language groups. It seems like there is very little 'cross pollination' between groups which to me seems to somewhat defeat the purpose of having discussions in a public context. I wondered if we should let some of these people know about our group and invite them to contribute to any of the discussions which take their interest? This could also apply to anyone whom we think might be interested enough to join Loomio to contribute to the dialogue. This would of course only be open to those discussions that we have set as 'public'. I guess the fear with opening out is that we upset the balance that we have developed between us which I think is working quite well.. Would be great to hear what you think!

Yes, I think this could be interesting and great to further explore what this Loomio beast actually is. It would be interesting to think further about which type of groups we would want to engage, what it is they do ... I will also investigate more!
