Future Party Alliance

If we don't get enough vote pledges on the TPAU website, should we direct the vote pledges to the Future Party and join their party, with Transhumanism as a core principle for influencing policy decisions?

As part of the alliance with the Future Party, they are asking if we can agree to help with their re-registration next month and say we are members of the Future Party if the AEC calls up, but for the purposes of the next election in 18 months we can still register our own party under TPAU based on the vote pledges on our transhumanism.com.au website.
What do you guys think of this approach? Given we are not yet a registered party, it may be beneficial to leverage their infrastructure prior to the next election and learn about the processes of a registered party, including campaigning and policy making. At the same time we can influence their policy decisions during that time.

With what Stefan said. I think I can agree on those terms.

Still 50/50 on it.

I like this idea, however I still want to go ahead with registering our party as well

I can't decide if this will be a good option or not.

I think it's important for parties with similar ideals to pool resources. Why try and compete when we are looking for the same sort of change?

Here is the memorandum of understanding drafted by the Future Party for TPAU. Note at the bottom it reads:
"Continuation of Transhumanist Party activity
The Future Party believes that the Transhumanist website, Facebook and social gatherings should continue. We believe that these activities hold their own value in addition to the Future Party’s registration and activities. Additionally continuing these operations will give members of the transhumanist party the flexibility to start their own political party in the future.
While this agreement is in order, there may be a need to change the Transhumanist Party name to something like Transhumanists Australia in order to prevent administrative confusion. The Transhumanist Party may at any point change their name back."

As long as we can still register, I'm for it, but I don't see how people can belong to two political party registrations. I didn't think that was allowed?

Per the memorandum of understanding, it says "If, in the future, the Transhumanist Party decides to register as a political party, all members who join the Transhumanist Party must inform the Future Party immediately that they intend to resign."

The memorandum states there 'may' be a need to remove 'party' from our name to prevent 'administrative confusion'.
That statement is very open ended and gives us flexibility: the way I see it, we agree to the memorandum as a whole. Ignore any reference to the name change in our response and make no change to our name.

Yea no need to change our name

Hi Guys, I don't quite understand the mechanics of this proposal.
Do we individually withdraw our pledge to TPAU and just join the FP (with the intention of resigning from the TP and re-joining TPAU at a later date)?
Are the FP likely to be ok with the TPAU calling for an exodus of FP members back to TPAU when the time comes?
Also, I don't get why the FP have to re-register. Were they registered once but have since been de-registered for some reason?
I'm all for being pragmatic about getting things off the ground via alliances etc. but I don't have enough info about this yet.

No need to withdraw our pledge to TPAU - as the TPAU website will keep a count of TPAU's supporters. Once we get over the 500 mark we can leave the FP and register our own party.
I can do an export of the current TPAU votes pledged for FP to record on their member list. I'll check with James if we need to also pledge our vote on the FP website. FP is ok with us having an "exodus" once we have enough supporters on the TPAU website. Just got to give them a heads up before we do it! Hopefully by then both TPAU and FP will have a good buffer to be registered and continue being registered on the AEC.

I just don't think them having our votes will give us enough autonomy over their party. It's as if we are acting for them, not for ourselves. Definitely still love the idea of helping them out, just expressing my concern that we might be seen as part of their party.

BTW, we're at 52 from 38 when i joined 6 days ago. 2 new members per day is a nice rate. I feel inspired to promote the party to my circles. :-)

That would be great Wayne! I'm sure if you help us get members, your help will be greatly appreciated by all of us. :)

I'm actually for the idea, I just went "Abstain" as I think that although our two parties have similar values, we are not the same, and I think we need to be cautious of this. But by all means, we should try and help the out. ;)

I don't see why not...
