Community Spotlight users selection

P [email protected] Public Seen by 12

Community Spotlight users are those who appear on everyone's stream (unless they disable it from settings). This is usefull to newly registered users so they can have something to begin with.

Here we can discuss which users of our pod should be on our community spotlight.

I wasn't aware that the users shown on the community spotlight are actually selected. The obvious question then is what the criteria are for deciding who gets selected. I'd imagine podadmins and contributors should be picked out as of right. And I do think that more members should get involved in community discussions, don't you think?

Yes, community means community :) The more users involved in the decision, the better. Right now I haven't set anyone in the community spotlight. I think we should have one or more users with interesting content to engage new users in conversations.

So, do we propose users for the spotlight and we ask them if they want to engage / help new users?

On the discusión, "users in spotlight", I can not say that I will always argue with myself, and I do not get right.

It is important that support for new users is organized by language, for example I am nothing useful to help people who speak English, Greek or Russian, but I can help people who speak Spanish, Galician and Portuguese.

In party at my house, i asked some Diaspora users about how to choose "users in spotlight"

There are consensus that they should be the ones to get more feedback on their posts

I believe that we should add users with public, interesting and neutral content (non-political) for the spotlight. Like CuteInbox & MAVI. And of course our pod's podmaster and Diaspora HQ - and some experienced users with D*-oriented content like Emmanouel Kapernaros to help new users. And maybe some "brand's" official accounts like duckduckgo.

I believe that the first thing that new users will look for is people that know how to handle Diaspora and can answer questions! Then they will look for something interesting! So we should look for the people that have the most likes, reposts, people that we see often in our page! But first of all we should ask them if they want to be in spotlight!

I agree with all of you. Also I think a greek taste in the community spotlight would be nice but I understand that we have multilingual people here so I dont see any other way than to select users with English content or no laguage at all (maybe posts only with photos.. i dont know).

@christoskoulaxizis The users you suggested are not on our pod. We can only add users to the community spotlight from our pod. This a limitation of the diaspora code.

That's too bad! :( We don't know all the users who are registered to our pod, how can we choose/suggest?
