Partner with Hold the Line NoVa Coalition

RB Rachel Bergman Public Seen by 9

Hold the Line NoVa is partnered with Indivisible's Protect the Results and is a coalition of progressive organizations to create an anti-coup mass movement of people defending democracy and ensuring free and fair elections. They are planning after-election actions in the event trigger events occur that suggest a power grab by the Trump administration.

We have been asked by a member to join the coalition to mobilize members (especially our NoVa members) out to their Nov. 4 rally and other actions after the election.

It is not clear if there is a way to endorse rather than sponsor since we are being asked to join the coalition, but this vote will still include a vote on whether to endorse vs. sponsor. If we think we should only endorse, we will have to communicate this as our line.

The vote will close at 6pm on Thursday, 10/22.

I'm voting against. I think its fine for NoVa or other members to be involved in if they choose but this is not the sort of action the chapter should be endorsing. I don't see how this event organizes anyone not already in the left/liberal sphere. Seems like just an opportunity for groups to get in front of a microphone.

My vote is dependent on NoVa branch recruiting volunteers and signing off on the coalition on Thursday. If they cannot, I will switch to endorse as my first choice.

Contingent that no currently running candidates speak on behalf of dsa before endorsement

My understanding from steering members in contact with NoVA branch (at the time of this vote) is that it's been extremely difficult to nail down a point person and recruit volunteers to bottom-line this action. For that reason, I'm voting we do not officially co-sponsor, though members should obviously feel free to attend. If that were to change, would be fine with co-sponsoring provided that unendorsed candidates do not speak on behalf of MDC DSA. (UPDATED VOTE)

Voting to endorse rather than co-sponsor because co-sponsorship would entail an all-out chapter mobilization. Our chapter will not have the capacity to bring members from across the region (the day after Election Day) to NoVA for this action, but I support the NoVA branch taking the lead and representing our chapter. Therefore, I am voting to endorse.
