Let's discuss our project

Have we decided that we want to aggregate Android resources into an Android app, or do you have other ideas? Let's talk.

An app sounds good!

That sounds doable to me. It's a list with a bunch of sub-categories. Maybe 2-3-4 activities at most plus navbar and other UI elements and a back-end.

I think this this idea sounds good. It might be good to start a thread for ideas only that way we can kind of have a repo of ideas in case more people want to start proejcts

I like your app idea about resources. I think it sounds very doable and fun.

So before we get to the specifics of how to implement the app, I think it might be helpful to step back and define the scope of the app. I really like this resource - especially the section entitled Do Your Homework. This way we go forward with a unified vision of what we're trying to accomplish. Thoughts?

Just to be clear are we looking to create a repository of information, like an Instructables exclusively for Android or more like a Lrn app (by Lrn Labs, Inc.)? If you don't know what Lrn is, don't worry. It is an app that takes you through mini-lessons on things like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ruby & Python. It is really great if you want an intro to these subjects.

My understanding was to be exclusively for Android (students) mostly to continue learning throughout this course and beyond, but I could be mistaken. And I'm sure it's all up for discussion. Jae just threw a few ideas out there and most of us just agreed it sounded good.

I love the idea of Instructables or Lrn, but I was thinking something a little different. Basically there are all of these great resources - which have already been written - being posted to Slack and in the forums. But have you tried to locate a really good resource for a particular topic? IMHO it's a seriously hot mess. In addition, because of the Slack 10,000-post limit, we are losing those resources day-by-day. If we simply collect those resources into a Google sheet (for now) through the use of a Google Form, we are creating a permanent record of posted (and located) resources categorized by topic.

Google Sheets (Google Forms dumps data collected through the form into a Sheet) has an API on top of which we can build an Android App. In terms of minimially viable product, I would see the user being able to choose from a list of topics and getting a list of contributed resources (RecyclerView). By clicking on the resource it would take the user to the resource website.

My thought is that, instead of having to create content (which is REALLY hard), we take advantage of the content that has already been contributed and simply make it easier to locate. I am definitely ope to other suggestions, though.

I say we go with the app resource collection idea and we can each own different features to build. I think the possibility is endless. Also, working on one app will also allow us to focus on one effort so we can help each other out. I think rather than coming up with different ideas for different apps, let's come up with ideas on features for the resource collection app. I can think of a few. It can be as simple as a resource listing but can enhance it by adding other features like voting on useful resources, identifying dead links, creating tags to help categorize resources even further, etc.

Yes, yes, yes and absolutely yes. IMHO, of course. :-D
